Ayoub N & H Carpet & Rugs

I went to these guys based on the Unilocal reviews and have to say that I did not have such a positive experience. I had 2 area carpets, 1 6′ round and a second 5×8 that I needed cleaning. First, I thought their price was high in comparison with other quotes I have received. They quoted $ 125 for the round and $ 115 for the other, and that was for me to drop them off and pick them up myself. Both had a few stains and the round had been urinated on by my cat and smelled horribly. I even considered just tossing the rug, because I know it can be hard to get pet smells out, but thought since it was relatively expensive I would try to have it cleaned.
When I dropped them off, I talked about the smell with the person at the desk, and he stated that for an additional charge ($ 22) they could deodorize the carpet. They took about 2 weeks to complete the work, and when I went to pick up the carpets I was very disappointed in the results. The round rug still smelled exactly the same as it had when I dropped it off. So badly, in fact, it has been put in the trash. The other rug was returned to me with a brown stain still very visible. I brought it home, and used Scotchgard Oxy carpet cleaner and got almost all of it out myself after a half hour of working on the stain. it is truly hard for me to believe they really spent any time cleaning my carpets, and if they did, they certainly don’t have very good chemicals.
At the very least, a professional organization should have contacted me and let me know that the cleaning I had paid for was unsuccessful before I came to pick up the carpets. I did not pay for them to complete a process, I paid them to clean 2 carpets. They took my money, and yet I still have 2 carpets that are not clean. To add insult to injury, when I called to complain, the person at the desk readily acknowledged that the round carpet still smelled, and he knew this and yet went ahead and applied the deodorizer (which did nothing), despite knowing that it would do no good.
I will never use this company again, and will definitely tell anyone who asks to steer clear. Very, very unprofessional and poor customer service.

Happy with this professional shop. I was concerned because there are so many carpet cleaners that advertise unbelievably low prices only to jack it to you after they have your carpets. These guys quote you a price that is fair and do good work.
My oriental carpets looked nice and clean and they placed them in our house as we asked. I I was very happy with their service.

Finding a good specialty service provider through Unilocal (or any other similar review site) can be so much more difficult than just finding a good meal. For one, most people simply don’t review their experiences with these types of places unless they’re absolutely stellar or abysmal, which immediately reduces the pool of potential reviews. That’s compounded by the number of fake reviews which manage to make their way through the filter to further skew the results so you wind up with everyone being close to five stars. For something like rug cleaning, where the product in question probably cost you thousands of dollars, and the service is another couple hundred, at minimum, and you’re talking about a service where trusting the rave reviews of total strangers can be a risky proposition. I was lucky enough in this particular instance to find the thorough review of Mandana Y, a Unilocaler I’ve actually met and trust her experience in this regard.
I had looked into several other rug shops, and they pretty much all sounded the same. It’s nice that almost all of them would come to your home and pick up your rugs, but I actually preferred to go into the shop to talk to someone before handing them over, and Ayoub’s shop was perfect for that. It seemed like a pretty nice shop overall, if you were actually looking for a rug to buy, and both of the guys working there when we came were very friendly. You could tell they knew their rugs, since as soon as we started unrolling our purchases from Morocco they were able to identify the types and regions. We picked up four pretty large rugs while traveling, and after hearing stories from our realtor about how she had accidentally brought back bed bugs which infested all of her furniture, we knew they needed to be cleaned almost immediately upon arriving here in DC.
Unilocal actually offers a discounted deal for Ayoub, but it wasn’t as good for us as the 10% off coupon on their own website, since we were spending a lot more than the $ 125 value of the Unilocal deal. This is something to check out if you’re planning on using these services. The total for three very large rugs and one medium sized one came out to around $ 500 (before coupon), which I thought was pretty reasonable (and about half what Suzy expected to spend, which is always a bonus for me coming in under my «allocated» budget). They took down our info and said the rugs would be ready in about two weeks.
A little less than a week after dropping them off I got a call from Chris Ayoub at the shop, alerting me that one of the more colorful rugs had shown a few minor indications of bleeding once they started the cleaning process. They stopped right away and that’s when he called me to find out how I wanted to proceed. He even offered to add some extra stain blocker to the rug to help prevent any additional bleeding. Since we bought really high quality stuff, they used natural dyes rather than synthetic, and as such I wasn’t worried too much about the dyes contaminating other areas, and I gave him the go ahead to keep cleaning. I called about a week later to check on the status of the rugs and they were all done and ready to be picked up.
We checked out all the rugs after coming home and they looked perfect, so much better than how they looked in the old, dusty shops in Fez where we purchased them. The thick lamb’s wool rugs we bought in the Berber village of Imlil were pristine white and fluffy. My mom was thrilled to get hers as a gift, as was her German Shepherd. Overall I couldn’t be more satisfied with the service Ayoub provided, unless they somehow decided to do it for free.

I’ve used Ayoub for many years and am just now getting around to writing a review. We have many furry critters in the house (3 dogs and a cat) and regular rug and carpet cleaning is a must! They have consistently done an amazing job getting pet stains out of our Persian rugs and wall to wall carpet. They are very honest about what they can and cannot accomplish (after a while urine does degrade carpet and there will come a point where it just can’t be cleaned anymore), but we have always been very pleased with their work.
When it came time to replace the carpet in our basement, they were our first choice. We decided to go with a budget commercial grade carpet (no padding) because it’s easier to clean and dry out. Even though we went with probably the cheapest possible carpet in a relatively small area, I was impressed with the amount of attention and help we received on what was clearly a small job for them. I’m sure we could have gotten the carpet replaced by a big box store for a little bit less, but it was worth it to us to work with a company that we know to be trustworthy.
Another note for all the women reading this review. We’ve all had that experience where we need to get the AC fixed or plumbing work in the house and the next thing you know you’re spending an hour (or four) with some creepy dude in your home who’s just giving off weird vibes. I have ALWAYS found the Ayoub techs to be super friendly and professional. This business is a joy to deal with from the main office/​admin side down to the guys who come by to pick up and install carpet. That matters to me, and I bet it matters to a lot of you as well.

I had these guys come fix a room that had very squeaky floors and then clean. Great service. Easy to work with and actually called me the morning of so I knew they were on the way. Would use again.

Great customer service. I had a 50 yr old Persian rug cleaned for the first time ever. The rug was picked up and returned as part of the cleaning. When the rug was returned a week later, the delivery team placed the rug and unrolled it. The rug looked soooo much better. The colors are now brighter and it feels so much softer. I felt the price was competitive with 2 other rug places I called and the free pick up & delivery made Ayoub an easy choice.

I’ve used Ayoub N & H to clean at least four rugs in my house. Their prices are reasonable and the quality of the work they do is excellent. I’ve also used their Unilocal deal as well as a Money Mailer coupon and there was no problem with honoring them. They’ve been great about picking up and delivering at times convenient for me and making the disruption to my house as minimal as possible. They don’t use harsh chemicals so especially for old rugs there’s no wear and tear, they’re just clean. Also, I appreciate their honesty. I got a rug on Craigslist that really needed to be cleaned and they were honest going in that it had stains that they probably couldn’t get out — the rug hadn’t been cleaned for 30 – 40 years and while it’s a really cool rug, it had seen some pretty bad treatment. It looked much better when I got it back from Ayoub, but it didn’t look brand new. I shopped around for pricing for rug cleaning and from what I found, when you want top-​quality, careful work done for your good rugs, Ayoub — and make sure it’s Ayoub N & H in Kensington — is the best deal around. I’ve been pleased with them all the times I’ve used them and will continue to use them when I want to have a rug cleaned, Unilocal deal or not!

They did a great job cleaning my Persion rug. The price was literally less than a third of what many other places quoted me, every employee I spoke to was exceedingly polite, and they arrived on time both to pick up and drop off the rug.
The rug looks as good as new.

Dropped off a silk and wool dhurrie rug to be cleaned here, and they did a great job. Not only did they get the job done quickly, but they charged half of what I got quoted by some other places. Highly recommended.

I guess everyone’s experiences with these guys vary. I went with them based on the amazing Unilocal reviews.
we live in a townhouse. I called them and spoke to two different people regarding a quote. I had a very small guest room, 38 stairs, and a rug on the top floor that needed cleaning, I told both people on the phone, and both said that it should cover the minimum price, which is $ 150. since they also had a Unilocal discount, I thought it was a no brainer.
we both got started on the wrong foot. when the two guys came, the evaluated the place, and gave us a quote of $ 250. excuse me? what happen to the $ 150 two people quoted us?
well, apparently, they consider each stairway as a separate area. they never told us that it was priced by area. so if you had a tiny 2×2 rug, or a section with only three steps up, that is considered an «area.» we had scheduled our day around these guys, and now they were increasing the price. we were not having it. they initially wouldn’t budge, and left.
soon after, the manager called back and apologized for the misunderstanding. I’m sorry, it wasn’t a misunderstanding from our part. we were quoted the same price by 2 different representatives, and on the day of arrival, the price is increased by $ 100 based on the fact that my stairs were not 38 continuous stairs, but partitioned? they offered to reschedule and perform the cleaning at the quoted price.
I was fed up, but went with them. they did arrive on time, did a decent job, not great, but decent. the two guys that did it were nice enough. off the bat, they said they probably weren’t able to get all the stains out of our guest room, since it was white. i guess its a good way of setting the bar low. they were right, they weren’t able to get all the stains out…

Highly recommend. These guys are great. Used them twice now for carpet cleaning, and both times the carpet looked new once they were done. They are reliable, on-​time, and prices are reasonable.

Took a small area rug from Azerbaijan in for cleaning. I must admit I don’t think I had ever cleaned it. It looks fresh and bright. Good price. Thanks!

We had them sand and refinish 2 rooms and some stairs. The work quality is very good. The rooms look great. We had a minor issue with the stairs and called them. They came back and made it right at no additional cost. Thats great customer service. The two workers they sent were friendly. They did a pretty good job of sealing up the rest of the house from the areas being worked on. We talked to Andrew to set up the appointment and he was very helpful. Would not hesitate to recommend them.

Not very satisfied: first of all the technicial was 2 hours late. Their process really left the carpet wet for a good 12 hours. finally it did not get many stains out… in fact its hard to tell the carpet was even cleaned. they charge about $ 50 a room so its not exactly cheap

When moving into a new house, we had them sand and stain two stories of 60-​year-​old oak floors. They did a fantastic job bringing the old floors back to life. Stains were lifted and some boards were repaired to a like-​new condition. However, the sanding machine marked-​up some of the walls and baseboards. When notified, they sprang into action the next day (on the weekend, nonetheless). No issues; no hassle; no run-​around. It was truly customer first. Will you find this with a big flooring mega giant after a sale/​service has been made?
It’s not what a company sells you; rather, it’s what they do when issues subsequent to sales arise — and they frequently arise. Ayoub N & H Carpet and Rugs showed service-​after-​sales excellence and I absolutely recommend them for anyone with flooring needs.
Moreover, they worked with us to purchase carpet and were very patient with us making a choice. This entailed us visiting the showroom multiple times and taking samples home to test. No hard sales pitch whatsoever. This customer-​oriented approach will keep me (and my neighbors) shopping with them for years to come. That is, I would rather frequent this family-​owned business than a large super carpet store for the reasons above. Again, I strongly recommend Ayoub N & H Carpet and Rugs for all of your flooring needs and do not hesitate to rate five stars.

I have upwards of 10 persian rugs in my parent’s home and it’s hard trusting someone with that kind of merchandise, ya know? But yay to Unilocal for posting a discount to this place (which was honored!). I was hesitant to hire someone to clean my rugs but I can’t resist a deal. And it was seriously time to get them cleaned…
This was the first time I’ve had my rugs cleaned so I had a ton of questions about the whole process. Andrew was really great about explaining everything and making my parents comfortable to hire them (they are foreign and paranoid). The wool rug we own was our biggest concern, but Andrew assured me that they can clean it without damaging anything. They honored the Unilocal discount and even provided free pick-​up and delivery.
Even though Ayoub N&H Carpet & Rugs gave me a great deal on everything, the 5 stars is for the service. In my experience, service companies like this are usually run by aggressive and pushy guys trying to screw a girl over with extra costs she doesn’t need. It was refreshing and comforting to do business with these guys. I’ll be coming to them again for sure!

They destroyed my year old oriental rug that we brought them to clean. The carpet looked much worse than it did before it was cleaned. They were condescending and only concerned that I wouldn’t cancel payment. They offered to reclean the rug, however, what they offered to do was already exactly what they had done. i now need to see if I can have my rug restored. Do not use them if you value your orientals.

We had them install carpet 4 bedrooms and the upstairs hallway and a staircase. I was very happy with the work they did for us and their price for installation was the cheapest. (We did not buy our carpet here but would consider doing that in the future.) They communicate well, I liked the installers and I just feel that they were very professional. From the minute I met them, I felt a sense that they knew what they were doing and I liked that they were flexible in terms of how I wanted the project completed. The work was done quickly and compared to a company that put in carpet on our lower level a few months prior, this job was much better. I felt they addressed any concerns that I had and gave me a real explanation so I’d understand what was going on. I also had them make an area rug for me and the work was done very quickly. The installers (whom I did really like) didn’t do a good job vacuuming after the installation and I thought that was slightly frustrating. However, the other company that installed carpet for us didn’t vacuum at all. In the end, all that mattered was that the carpet was installed very well and there were no problems. I happily vacuumed again after they left and enjoyed the gorgeous new carpet! Almost six months later, no problems.
