Bob Rhodes Heating & AC, Inc.

Very disappointed with their unprofessional way of dealing with an internal service call mix up. I had 2 propane stoves that needed servicing in order for me to put my home on the market. Knowing it was winter time and emergency calls trumped this type of service, I made my appointment weeks in advance. Day of appointment arrives which I will also add I had to change my work schedule to accommodate the appointment, and it dawned on me that I never received the usual confirmation call the day before so I gave them a call. Receptionist was unable to find my work ticket for the day but she did see I had an appointment. She has to investigate so calls me back a few HOURS later to say that they are too busy and can’t get to me, MAYBE they can to me in the next few days but no promise. Well three days later, still have never heard a word back from them! Took my business elsewhere and have scratched this one off my list forever.

I called this firm for an estimate. The estimator arrived and reviewed my situation. Although he said that my General Electric heat pump would last longer, he said that he would give me an estimate anyway. He indicated that a Trane was a very expensive item. That estimate has never arrived. He had both my address and my email. Along came Bruce Inc. and that estimator gave me a very thorough estimate after telling my that my heat pump would last longer. The estimates all included running piping to an additional room. It could be done without replacing the heat pump. Guess what! I have just spent $ 1100 with Bruce to service my heat pump and run the additional piping per my specifications. Too bad. I was leaning toward Trane but wouldn’t touch it now. I will go where I can get good service. Funny part is that I had the money.

We came back from Montana last Sunday to find our A/​C unit not working. The next morning, after reading the Unilocal reviews, I found confidence in calling Bob Rhodes Heating & AC, Inc. I was grateful for their office opening at 8am and being helped by the lady who put me in touch with a service repairman within a couple of hours. I was worried about the cost, and to my relief they included the service call with the total which didn’t break my bank account! Great, quick, promised service. Hard to find! It’s been a week and my A/​C unit is still going strong! I know there are MANY outfits to choose from, I work in the Insurance business and know of others, I wanted to go with a company that others have touted! I will gladly refer this company to all my friends, clients, and family!

It was my first day on my new job today and couldn’t be home to greet the repair guy. However, my mom was at the house and after the original call to see if they would come out to take a look, they were here within an hour! They checked out the unit and did their diagnostic work and found no problem. Just that the system had over-​heated in this hot weather. The diagnostic charge was around $ 90! So happy to have my ac back up and running without a huge expense or being told I needed to fix/​repair, or do anything else costly and unnecessary. I will definitely recommend this company to my friends and use their services again if I need it!!! Thank you!

We had someone come out to check our AC and temporarily fixed it. Turned out to be a bigger problem that somehow they didn’t notice before, so we had to call again. The first time we paid what we assumed were reasonable rates. The second time they didn’t charge for the visit but quoted us $ 4000 to fix it and we declined (we just bought the house and couldn’t afford that). We called another company for a second opinion, paid him ¹⁄₆^th what we paid for our first visit from Bob Rhodes and he did the same thing as both their visits combined. Then he quoted us around $ 500‑1000 to fix it all up, which is entirely more doable. The technician from Rhodes suggested we get a whole new system and didn’t check to see that it wasn’t very old. The technicians were friendly, but they wanted way more money than was necessary and we can’t afford to be taken advantage of. They were on time and worked professionally around our home. They also explained what they found, just didn’t find the problem fast enough.

Omigosh I want to cry. As a single mom and first time home owner, I panicked when my air conditioner stopped working. A Million things went through my head, «who do I call?» «It’s almost six o clock, they’ve all gone home,» «they’ll talk down to me because I don’t know anything about hvac.» I said a little prayer and went on Unilocal to see if there were any reviews out there for hvac people in Kennewick. I saw that Bob Rhodes had the most positive reviews and dialed their number. At the first ring, a lady answered and greeted me while I was worried what to say. She asked me what was wrong, what a good call back number was, what my address was. Within ten minutes I received a call from a repairman. He asked me a checklist of questions first, «is your fan running» «did you check your breaker» «is the outside running?» After about six questions and me running around inside and outside the house to check everything he asks, «are you looking to have a repairman come out to your house tonight?» I said yes because the temperature was unbearable. He said, «we can do that but I just need to let you know that it’ll be $ – .– for someone just to come out to your house. I said that was totally fine and I thanked him for telling me up front.
He came by and introduced himself and I walked him to the outside unit. He brought all of his testing equipment and tools with him in preparation to meet, «The Dinosaur,» which is a seventeen year old system. He showed me what the issue was, and had me listen to the system to get a better understanding of what was wrong. He offered to put in a universal motor to fix it or on Monday he could check and see if the part is in stock. I liked how he gave me an option to choose from. He also showed me the reset button on the unit if I happen to run across any problems until then. He cleaned out some of the system with a hose and then went inside to take the temperature from a heating vent to see if cold air was coming out. It was 79 degrees when he arrived and his electronic device was logging 59 degree cooling air! Yeay it’s working!
We’ll see how the rest of the weekend goes, but I’m very pleased with their contactability, thoroughness, and kindness. I asked him when I needed a full new system how much that might run, and he told me. I asked if there was a payment plan and be said yes! I will definitely be calling Bob Rhodes heating again for future repair!

I would love to give a 5 Star for my Second tech that came out. I called around 10am and was told a technician would arrive between 1 – 5, which was fine because I could take my lunch later. However the tech called me at 11:30 and said he was on his way. He came and said the problem was an «easy and inexpensive fix». Which gets me excited that I can fix the lack of cool air in my house easily. Tech goes about his business and knocks on the door roughly 30 minutes later and says we just had a plugged hose that he blew out. I write him a check for $ 80 and he’s on his way. I go back to work happy that I will have a cool house to relax in after a long day. I come home 5 hours later to an ac that has been running for nothing, my house is still sweltering. I called into the office and was told the on call tech would call. Not sure what the duties of the office girls are but they could sharpen up their customer concern instead of making me someone elses problem. Anyway, the on call tech, Roy, shows up at 6ish and deduces that my fan motor is shot. Much to my surprise since the previous tech had said nothing. Long story short Roy worked very hard into the darkness to get my unit working again. It was pricey, but its much less than I was anticipating. Roy was excellent and honest he is valuable. If I have any future needs, crossing my fingers I won’t for a while, I will be calling again, but with caution. Seems to be hit or miss with the technicians.
*Update* Here we are 5 months later and coming on a week of low 20’s for the high and the work done on my unit has failed. My entire unit is frozen over because one of the parts they ‘fixed’ by electrical taping it to the inside of my unit fell off and was destroyed by my running fan. Called the on call tech and he argued with my husband and wouldn’t come out. I have a 2 month old and 4 year old and this is infuriating. I paid over $ 500 for a part to be electrical taped to the inside of my unit? Are you serious? They said they would come out on Monday and look at it and if it was that part we wouldn’t have to pay except labor, but didn’t I already pay for the labor? At least I have a warranty on the parts!

Great service. They came and fixed my heat pump in about 30 minutes. They charged me $ 30 for the parts, and $ 73 for the diagnostic and service.
The only bad part is that they schedule appointments by mornings and afternoons. They won’t give you specific times. So you might have to wait around all morning for them to show up.

This review is for Rhodes — even though at the start I gripe about Bruce Heating and Air… Please read!!!
I had a tech from Bruce Heating and Air come out and perform a «Diagnosis» on my central heating and air. It has not worked all summer which is not a big deal because we had our basement finished last fall and we have been living downstairs. Its just more comfortable there. anyhow, we haven’t used the A/​C all summer but a few weeks ago I turned it on because we were having company over and I needed it to work. Well that’s when I found out it did not work. So I called and explained all of this to them and their guy came out. I had to work but my wife was home and I told her to call me when the tech gets there so I could explain this all to him. After explaining everything to him he proceeded to tell me that the filters I was using for my furnace were garbage and that they were letting dirt past them and that my coil was completely plugged up. It would need to be removed and either cleaned or replaced which would cost $ 450.00 to clean and I didn’t even ask how much to replace it. On top of that my heat pump was completely out of refrigerant and it was going to be $ 154.00 to perform a leak check, and an additional $ 280.00 for refrigerant. That’s not including any repairs that would have to be made. Oh, and he charged $ 72.00 to come out and tell me that. I told my wife to pay him the $ 72.00 and I would have someone else do a second opinion. I called Rhodes Heating and Air and did not tell them that I already had someone check it. I just explained my problem and asked if someone could come out today. Someone was there with in about 1 hour and with in 30 mins of being there he called me and told me that the refrigerant was empty in my heat pump so he performed a leak check. He said that there was a pipe behind a wall/​ceiling in my basement that had been punctured (likely when I had my basement refinished last fall)… I asked him how much to replace the line and he said we can fix the existing line and have everything working great for $ 600.00! I asked him if there were any other problems and he said that he inspected both coils, inside and outside and that they looked fine. I asked him how much I owed him for today’s diagnosis/​leak check and he said $ 80.00! So for $ 80.00, I got an answer to why my A/​C is inop. the same thing that Bruce Heating and air was wanting to charge me $ 434.00 for. This place is a racket and I will never use them again for anything. I hope this review was helpful to at least one person because there were no reviews for me to read prior to this one… Rhodes Heating and Air will have all of my business from this day forward! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
