Akamai Tinting

I am a few days late to do this review but let me just say that Mike is truly Akamai when it comes to tint jobs. My car is amazing now!
I was calling around to try and find someone to tint my windows. I called all places that my friends recommended but they either cancelled at the last minute, didn’t have any available appointments until the next few weeks or their prices were outrageous.
So when I came on Unilocal and saw this place and all the great reviews, I just had to call. Mike answered in such a friendly tone and made talking to him about what I wanted done for my car so easy. All I did was tell him what I wanted and within seconds quoted me a price I couldn’t refuse. He was even kind enough to waive the charge to take off my old tint on just one of my windows. I called on Thursday to schedule my appointment and he had it done on Saturday.
Now my car is better than ever and it definitely keeps me and my family nice and cool inside. I am so thankful and can’t wait to go back and do my truck windows next.

Coming from another state, my old tint was too dark for safety inspection so I found this shop online and through a recommendation. Nice comfortable seating area while I waited. Man, these guys worked hard to get my old, messed up, low quality out-​of-​state tint off my windows! I felt bad because it was a time consuming job and they really should have charged me more. But they were really professional and fair, and they didn’t quit until it was absolutely 100% perfect. Its been a year since my new tint was installed and it still looks brand new. No problems at all. I will definitely recommend this shop to others and will make the drive from the windward side if I need tint work on another vehicle in the future.

**Day of appointment **
I arrived 10min early with 1 car before me. Didn’t wait long, Mike greated me and was very courteous. Went over my options and films he carried. Answered any questions I had. Changed my mind on what I originally wanted to do and upgraded. Waiting area was very neat and comfortable (AC. Yes!) with a complimentary coffee and snack counter. He finished within the time promised. Did a final look over and went over aftercare and warranty details.
Love my tint. Will be bringing my other truck soon. Thank you so much Mike!

I called a few places based on their Unilocal ratings. Most would give you the price over the phone, but not everyone. I don’t see why any business would inconvenience a potential customer by making you drive down to your shop so you can convince me that your high price is worth it.
Anyway, I called Akamai Tinting and spoke to Mike. He asked me the pertinent questions, and offered 2 options with prices. I opted to use the ceramic tint so that it would block out the heat a lot better than ordinary tint.
I gotta say that I was pretty impressed when I got there. It might be a little out of the way down in Campbell Industrial Park aka Kapolei, but it was worth it. We looked over the car, talked a little bit which put me at ease with him. He let me know that they have a comfortable waiting room. Now, I’ve been in some waiting rooms for car repair places, but this one was pretty darn nice. It had comfortable seating, was air conditioned, had single-​serve coffee/​tea, iced water, and a very convenient and clean restroom. I looked into his work area to see what was happening with my car, and this space was spacious and clean.
He was meticulous with the application of the tint on all the windows and called me out to discuss the placement of the visor tint. I was glad that he took the time to show me two options for the front glass. Different front glass have different curvatures making it pretty difficult to get it straight. He did awesome! I just had my car painted and the tint put the icing on the cake.

I would want to rate this tinting company at 3.5 stars. Saw the ad at Facebook, contacted through FB, no response so I decided to call and Mike gave me a quote over the phone for my Scion TC, scheduled for Sunday. Arrived there and I’m a little surprise the owner doesn’t give a ticket that you dropped off the car like typical auto business but I said ok, I guess gotta trust him since he’s licensed business. So when we picked up the vehicle, no warranty paperworks or any brochure like typical tinting company I’ve dealt in the past, I guess they are paperless. So he said the receipt Is my warranty Bec it states lifetime warranty on it. That’s just where my 3.5 came from other than that, I was able to schedule quick and got it done the next day within an hour ½. Closer to home and quick service. This rate doesn’t include the file tags was installed not the workmanship warranty as we just got it tinted a week ago, so far so good.

Mike is awesome! He did the job on mine & my bf’s car in a decent amount of time. He was very knowledgeable about the job he does which made me trust him more. Ceramic film tint for both cars for a much more decent price from all the other places I’ve called. The tint I got also came with lifetime warranty. They have a clean & cute little waiting area as well, just an FYI. Mike, you dah man!

Mike is the man awesome job on my tint! 5 star rated and cheap dont go anywhere else this is the place to go!

They do tinting on cars only no window replacement, but the guy who answered to phone was very professional and told me a few places to go to get my window on car replaced.

What an amazing place… I love how professional and courteous Mike is… he makes you feel like a friend not just like a customer. I like when you go to a place and you feel like they enjoy your business… i dont like places where it feels like all they want from you is your money!!! Mike is definitely not like that and he is worth going to, to get your tinting needs done!!! I recommend going here if you need any tinting done on your vehicle!!!

I had a great experience here! I had a bit of a hard time finding it because my Google maps led me to a lot full of semis but with one phone call to the business he led me in the right direction. The service took about an hour and a half as stated during the phone call and he was able to get me in the same day! I am moving soon and he was up to date with the tinting laws of the state I was moving to; which helped a lot. He was incredibly informative and professional. The waiting area is really comfortable I wish I had my son with me because he loves cars and there’s a lot to entertain children with (toys, books, etc) as well as complimentary snacks and drinks. The hour and a half flew by and then I was out of there. I received my tint a little over 2 months ago and it has retained it’s quality since. He (I’m sorry I forgot his name) also said if there were any issues just bring it back and he will take care of it. Great personable customer service, I’m really happy we decided to go with him. It also didn’t hurt that he gave me the lowest quote from all the places I called.

This place is awesome, Mike was professional and swift with my truck. I waited less than 45min for my truck’s windows ceramic tint and he took the time to talk me through the products warranties. I will definitely bring my other car to get the windows tinted here, Mahalo.

Mike was awesome! Explained all the different types of tint and sampled how the heat shines through them. Ended up going ceramic which is a little more expensive but definitely worth it. Just bought my new 2015 Honda Fit. Was undecisive of what shop i should go to for tinting. Ended up checking out Akamai Tinting and the work was amazing! Mike is a real down to earth guy. You can tell he puts a lot of passion into his work. Car looks amazing, reasonable pricing, and he even helped me install some aftermarket accessories for no charge! Highly recommend everyone to check this place out.

WOW! Mike, what an amazing tinter. Super chill and just the way he carries himself you know he is a professional and is passionate of his work. I asked some of the old timers I know «who do you go to, to get tint?» «Mike is the only person to go to.» So I took there advice and went to Akamai Tinting.
I got my front window tinted along with the two front windows. I wanted the driver and passenger windows to match the factory tint. Mike took a look and went to town, He had the front windows done in NO TIME! Seriously fast and his attention to detail was spot on. The front window took a little longer, but lets be real its a HUGE awkward window to tint.
The waiting room /​shop was clean and very welcoming. Mikes prices are the best I have seen on island, and I will be taking my wife’s car here to get tinted. This is one happy customer!

What a great experience. Michael was so professional and so very nice!!! I moved here from Arizona and when I went to get my car inspected it failed because the dark tint from AZ was not legal here. I called him and explained the situation, he explained the process to me and was able to get me in the very same day. Not only was the service very affordable, it was QUICK!!! He had my car done in about and hour and a half! Thanks Michael for a great experience, you can bet I will recommend you in the future!

Where do I start? Just purchased a 2015 Mercedes E350 two days ago and was referred to Akamai Tinting from Mercedes of Honolulu. I called Mike the same day and he took me in the next morning. I opted for the Ceramic tint because I wanted to protect my interior from sun damage and keep majority of the heat out. Mike took extra time out of his day to educate my husband and I on the different types of tint and made us feel very welcome.
This is the third car I’ve had tinted in my life and by far this was the best price and experience I’ve had to date. We have two toddlers and his waiting lounge was child friendly and comfortable also.

What a dick. made an appointment a week in advance, showed up twenty minutes early and didn’t answer his phone as I called him for half an hour. Then went to go find the shop in the storage place and find out he went home early for the day. No call and no heads up. Wasted a day off. Not sure if he left on an emergency or what but a no Call no show in any profession is unacceptable.
