Zona Rosa

Spent an entire day in this shopping center and wasn’t bored one bit. It has everything you would want, on every price scale you are seeking. Lots of restaurant choices from upscale to just for those seeking a quick bite. Parking was excellent, plenty of parking lots. We shopped at Marshals, Hot Topic, then had dinner at an Indian Restaurant called Swagat. They had a children’s play area for the kids to play in while some of us shopped. It was very clean and had a variety of children’s activities to keep them entertained.

Want gift cards? Too bad.
My family member in KC wanted a Zona Rosa gift card for Xmas. I tried to buy it online; however, email delivery was not available and I didn’t want to pay $ 8 to mail a gift card.
So, days before Xmas I showed up in person to buy the card. Long line w/​one person (very nice lady) working there. After a while, a second person showed up (also very nice).
Buying the card was not a quick process and I discovered that they charge $ 1 for the privilege of buying one of their cards. Are you kidding me???
I already told my family member that they are not getting the same next year. I like to shop local; however, next year it’s an Amazon card.

Had dinner there last night with wife and daughter. Delicious food excellent service. Wife had steak diavolo, daughter had fettuccine and I had the lobster ravioli. It came promptly and hot. Waiter was very attentive and helpful. The only negative was the glass of chianti I ordered. I was charged $ 7.95 for what was half a glass. The 25 mile drive was worth it since there isn’t a good place to eat in Excelsior Springs.

I love this shopping area! Barnes and Noble is here, and for running or workout stuff Dick’s is one of the best. I don’t know if Yogurtini is here but that is THE place for a cold treat in the heat. Sephora is always a good stop for us ladies who love makeup and skin care. Zagat may be the best eatery here, a wonderful, dimly lit Indian restaurant, awesome food. Heavenly Oils as another must-​stop. You won’t believe what you can do with oil and vinegar but the women there love to show you «recipes.» Garage parking is free.

— You get the eviction notice accidentally under your door… but it’s folded… after being told everything’s ok with your account two days prior
Only luxury I found is freedom of speech to write this and hope no one ever lives at Zona Rosa. Don’t forget the bed bug clause you have to sign… and the move in inspection sheet theyll lose.

Great place to stroll, grab a bite, meet friends, or blow a wad of cash on a cool new pair of shoes, Zona rosa has it all… sometimes the traffic stinks, but opportunities are just around the next corner…

This is a great place to burn off some calories and shop at the same time, We didn’t visit every store. We only went into Ross, Yankee Candle, Yogurt Bar, Dillards and some other small boutique .They have so much more. We didn’t have time to look at everything because we wanted to go to casino. But, I really loved the vibe of this area and I even bought a suitcase that I needed and was looking for. I had to come to kansas to find it, LOL !!!
If I ever return than I will be back here !!

I remember before this outdoor shopping center was built and Barry & 1 – 29 was nice and open. Zona sits in a convenient location (for me) but can be a bear to get through during the holidays. Traffic backup snafu hell! Thankfully the holidays (and by holidays I specifically mean Christmas) only comes once a year. Otherwise, convenient places that I personally go to: Dicks Sporting Goods, GapKids, BDubs, CVS plus a few other regulars.
The building housing the Marshall’s Mega Store at the west side of Zona features a kid friendly play area downstairs. The ONLY fast food option downstairs attached is Subway. They tend to be skimpy on their toppings and charge $ 1 for a refill! Warning!
The restaurants in Zona are a decent selection. Some I haven’t set foot in for years. Those are reviews separately from Zona! During nice weather, it can be a pleasant place to wander, shop and enjoy some patio dining occasionally.

I have this thing for outdoor malls… Its just one of the most favorite places to go… I love to walk around and look into stores and rummage through sale racks. LOL Sorry bout it… Not sorry.

My only wish. is that it wasn’t raining when i went there.
It is an outside/​open concept mall with great Spanish architecture. There is great shopping and different restaurants around.
If you aren’t sure what to do with your day, this is a nice spot to spend some time in.

I didn’t find Zona Rosa very interesting. It was really quiet when we went in the afternoon with only a couple of other shoppers, and not many appealing stores. I didn’t find that there was a variety of stores to shop from :(Would shop at the Country Club any day over Zona Rosa!

Cute little shopping center on the outskirts of Kansas City. A few decent shops, though a lot of repetition in the things you can buy there. Easy parking. Clean and modern.

Great walker style shopping with fountains and play areas. concerts…farmer markets on Tuesdays. …tons of restaurants and a lot pf parking!

Love, love, love Zona Rosa! I love the fact that there is an variety of store types within the shopping «district».
The parking on the street is paid but it goes to a different charity every month! :-) so, when I’m lazy I will park on the street & pay with a smile.
during summer months there are live free concerts! & different festivals. Again, I love it!
Can’t go wrong with a visit to zona Rosa.

Great area (I guess it is an outdoor mall). Lots of department store shopping and places to eat. parking can be a NIGHTMARE!

Somewhere on the northwest corner of I-​29 and Barry Road is an unfortunate, infrequent visitor to the Northland, doomed to circle forever in a roundabout leading out of Zona Rosa. It was almost me today.
Occasionally it becomes necessary for me to go there; today it was either that or mail back the Old Navy jacket that didn’t fit. Once again I had the strange feeling that I’d fallen down a rabbit hole… yeah, it’s clean, it’s new, it’s the only place in the Northland to find a lot of these stores. But the attempt at recreating a «walkable neighborhood» shopping experience comes off as positively surreal. I’ll bet the Stepford Wives shop here. Getting around is hell-​the streets are narrow and must have been laid out intentionally to make it difficult to find your way out, in the hope that you’ll wander stuporously from store to store, spending, spending, spending.
There are some good big-​name stores here, and an Indian restaurant (Swagat) that’s quite good. There’s also an open area where you can here live music in good weather, and a fountain for kids to play in. But OMG, it just isn’t real… I’ll take the chaos of the Plaza or the grit of 39^th Street any day!

This is an OK mall. There is a Dillards, but the selection is just OK. I like that there is both a regular department store and a Marshalls and DSW. The setup is OK, I’m not too sold on the fact that there are parking meters — paying for parking when I’m going to the mall blows my mind. In terms of stores, it’s a pretty standard mall, VS, Pacsun, Limited, Sephora. It was nice and open, and the middle plaza was nice as well.
As a tourist tip, I enjoyed driving up 169 because it was was nice looking at all the ritsy houses and greenery.

For those of you that have read my previous reviews you know my disdain for outdoor malls. This place is beautiful, clean, and perfectly decorated in an artificial Hollywood back lot/​Soylant Green kind of thing.
I do not find Zona reminiscent of the Country Club Plaza in anyway. The stores at the Plaza are completely different. This place is more Independence Center thrown outdoors in a chaotic fashion, splayed out inconveniently so we must walk great distances from our car to the shop you’re looking for.
Again these outdoor malls are OK in some places, but in Missouri we have winter 8 months of the year, heat and humidity other other months, mosquitos dining on you as you walk, and wasps guarding every trash can.

I figured it out! You know what Zona Rosa reminds me of? Jim Carrey’s «The Truman Show». Everything is just so… polished, and yet filled with an occasional back alley that gives you perspective that this is, at the end of the day, an outdoor mall in a town more comfortable with chilli cheese fries than the heart of it’s name sake in Mexico City.
The Mexico City Zona Rosa’s development started in the early 1900s. This was before the Mexican Revolution when wealthy foreigners and Mexican residents wanted to move from the urban core.
OK, that part is just like the Kansas City Zona Rosa, except for the whole early 1900s thing, and the Mexico thing.
Mexico City’s Zona Rosa experienced a redevelopment of sorts in the 1950s when artists and the Mexico City «elite» built the area they wanted. Upscale restaurants, galleries, and shopping was the hallmark of that development.
So I can see where the developers of Kansas City’s Zona Rosa got the inspiration for not just the name but the general direction by providing more than your average Applebee’s and Kohls. Well, wait, there is an Old Navy, and a Mimi’s Café. Okay, so they made some sacrifices for the sake of the audience.
Oh hell, who am I kidding. Northland, I do love you, I’ve been a resident since my parents brought me home from the hospital. Well, except for that short stint in Lee’s Summit but we won’t talk about that. The Northland is hanging their «We’re Sophisticated» cap on the model of a retail development that includes a Dillard’s that’s just being a jerk about leaving Metro North Mall so it won’t ever be more than a ghost town (long story), a tired steakhouse that gets the least offensive reviews from people who just landed in KC from somewhere that serves steak with ketchup, and retail stores like Dick’s, Lid’s, Sunglass Hut, and Thing’s Remembered.
There are standouts, The staff at Par Exsalonce are freaking awesome, Apricot Lane, and Bittersweet Hollow, all echo the them of that off the beaten path Mexico City version.
It’s a huge step forward that I appreciate. The best shopping we had North of the River before was Metro North Mall, and that was nearing the end of it’s life.
So, we’re better.
