My husband and I ate breakfast at Niecie’s one morning about a month ago after reading the reviews posted. We were in Kansas City very briefly for some medical tests and wanted a breakfast with a little soul before we headed back home to Tulsa. We were not disappointed. The service was friendly and prompt. As we were finishing up, the chef or owner came out personally to ask how everything was. I do have to say that the ham slice I ordered was very tasty and the home fried potatoes were as good as my mamma used to make and that’s no small feat. I look forward to returning on a future trip to KC to try out the delicious sounding lunch menu.

I’d heard good things about Niecie’s and wasn’t disappointed once I finally got the chance to try it for myself. Went with my husband and a friend this weekend for the first time. We all left happy and full! Upon entering, we were greeted by a fella sitting at the counter who told us to sit wherever we liked(I’m not even sure if he actually worked there or just designated himself a greeter or what…). We picked a booth and took a seat. Our waiter was at the table to give us menus and take drink orders as soon as we sat down. We ordered our drinks which were out promptly and kept full throughout our meal. After perusing the menu a while, we weren’t sure if we needed to stick to the lunch menu or what, eventually we asked and were told they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at all times. Perfect! We all promptly moved to the dinner menu to order. My husband and our friend both opted for the fried chicken(white meat) dinner. I decided to try something different so I opted for the meatloaf dinner. I got that with a side of mashed potatoes and fried green beans. All of us also opted for cornbread muffins. We sat for a minute or two and I headed to the bathroom(nice enough, nothing to complain or praise about) and by the time I was getting back to the table, our food was already arriving. It was surprisingly fast. Like Mexican Restaurant fast… The cornbread muffins were quite tasty though a touch dry(but cornbread can just be that way) and all 6 that we got with our meals were gone by the time we left. The fried chicken meals both went over really well. I took a taste of it and found it to be really moist and flavorful. My meatloaf was a hint dry but otherwise really tasty. The potatoes were real and good. The gravy on both those things had a really nice flavor and was much approved. This was my first time having fried green beans and they were good. Probably not something I’d get often but good. They came out piping hot and well breaded. The atmosphere was super inviting. There were lots of families there and it seemed like the people working knew most of the people dining(either they were actual family or just friends and regulars) and the people they didn’t know they took the time to talk to and make feel really welcome. It has a definite«if you are here, you’re family» sort of vibe. The staff all seemed to be on task taking orders, keeping glasses full, making everyone feel welcome, cleaning, etc. Our food was served fast and hot, drinks were cold and always close to full, and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back soon. I want to order some fried chicken and my husband wants to experience the chicken and waffles. I also have my eye on some of the delicious looking desserts…

I had chicken and waffles… Not bad at all! Very quick service which is a plus over lunch period. I’ll be going back to try their peach cobbler.

Was visiting from out of state and meet up with a couple of my cousins for breakfast. The waitress was condescending and full of excuses as to why our food was sub standard. All three of our orders had something missing or wrong tithe order. At one point the waitress came and told one of my cousins and myself that we needed to share toast because every time she went to get our orders another server had taken our toast. I looked at her like she was crazy. I don’t want to go into what the problem was with each of our orders, I will just say that I will never return to Neicy’s. I believe that the first impression is crucial to a business style of customer service, in my opinion Neicy’s failed me upon entrance into the restaurant.

I have now crossed the threshold of life when you first consume Chicken & Waffles. Folks, I’m a changed woman. My boyfriend had been wanting to try Niecie’s famous combo for a while, and I found a Groupon with a killer deal. It was meant to be. We swung in on a late Saturday morning, and the place was packed. We were fortunate to be able to snag a table shortly after arriving, and then put in our order. Niecie’s has a ton of staff on hand, so you are always getting helped by someone, whether they are refilling your beverage, bringing your order, or taking your plates away. It is a no-frills great-food atmosphere, and they manage to make you feel like you’re joining in on a big family meal. Let’s be real, the whole point is the food. The chicken and waffles were awesome. I am not good at eating wings, so that part was a bit of a struggle, but overall it was an awesome meal and a great KC experience.

If I could give a place 6 stars I would. The food was simply out of this world. I had dark fried chicken with green beans and candied yams and finished with sweet potato pie. Next time, though, it’ll be peach cobbler. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned without being too greasy. The sides were flavorful as well, just wish there had been more. Get out of your comfort zone and you’ll never regret it. Don’t worry about it being too crowded… we ended up with new friends!

Lotsa people in here at 1030 in the morning on a Saturday. All of them eating chicken. This is our first visit to Niecies. So crowded, we sat with 2 wonderful ladies who just happen to be lawyers. Somehow they and the wifeys careers linked. One of them said God had drawn us to this place so we could all meet, share a table and meal. I agree. I had the 3 piece white Breast and 2 wings with mashed potatos and corn… YUMMMMM. Wifey had the dark meat with sweet potatoes. Loved the sweet potatoes. Had to try the peach cobbler and it was also very good. Wifey had the sweet potato pie and that was also very good. As much as I love fried chicken and as much as I thought I had my favorite fried chicken places staked out, NIECE’S has now made it a task in figuring out where to go. They have a strong vote tho. Man-0-man this place is good.

I came here on November 29, 2014 with my boyfriend. I absolutely love the vibe in this place. It is an extremely positive and welcoming environment, with people of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. It has been a while since I have been to a restaurant that really made you feel like you were right at home. Our entire experience was absolutely perfect from the moment we arrived in the restaurant up, right until we left. Our waitress was phenomenal: polite, professional, and warm. Service was extremely fast and very accommodating to extra add-ins to our meals. We both ordered the chicken and waffles, which, if you have read the reviews, has gotten tons of positive feedback. Yes, it is true… they are phenomenal. I liked that there wasn’t a real push to have you leave the restaurant ASAP(I’ve seen some waiters and waitresses at other restaurants drop off the bill almost immediately after your dish hits the table, without ever asking if you want anything else), despite the restaurant being so busy. This location is particularly busy; I don’t know if I would say it’s «loud» per se, as I didn’t really experience that. I was still able to be heard across the table. Definitely want to go back to this restaurant. Excellent place! **Edit** we came here with the Groupon: P **Edit** I posted this review for the wrong location(at 63rd street) when it should have been for this location. Note that THIS location on Troost is the better of the two.

Great moderately sized family owned diner. They have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, but you can order from any of them at any time. The staff was very friendly and courteous, and the lady who was serving me was warm and motherly. Made me feel really welcome and comfortable. The 3 piece fried chicken(dark) comes with 2 sides and cornbread, which was a lot of food for $ 11. GREAT * Sweet Potato Pie — Heated up with some whipped cream on top. Sweet, creamy, heavenly sensations in my mouth! * 3 Piece Fried Chicken(dark) — Super crunchy chicken with juicy meat. Batter was well spiced, and chicken didn’t feel overly greasy. MEH * Green beans, corn — simple vegetables, not much flavor * Cornbread — Really dry, coated them in butter and drank a lot of water to get them down.

Horrible! Tried to give them another chance. First of all they charge .30 cents per to-go container. I ordered the pork chop breakfast, they were dry! My other breakfast order included grits, they were dry! The wait was ridiculous. Oh, they charge an additional $ 1.00 for any breakfast with eggs, $ 2.25, for omelets because of the increase in price of eggs!

So for review #1500, I thought I would go back to a blast from the past — Niecie’s — which I never made it to when I lived in KC — but finally got to when I recently visited. The place is constantly packed and I was surprised to see apologies everywhere about the recent change in egg prices(something has caused the price to go up, I guess). I got some chicken wings and waffles and threw some bacon on the side for good measure. Great place to catch up with my friend and have some real soul food.

I LOVE Niecie’s and the people that run it and serve are sweet, polite, helpful, just plain nice. The food is wonderful and I love Soul Food/Home Cookin’. It’s never a dull moment and always so tasty! We will definitely be back. It’s also convenient. Don’t blow a gasket b/c it’s on Troost for heaven’s sake. It’s actually quite convenient and we stopped at the Aldi’s next door to do a little grocery shopping.

The good. It was clean. The service was excellent. Groupon was well worth it and food came out quickly. The bad. Chicken is just ok. Not bad but not a stand out and the reason is because it’s pre cooked and then deep fried to heat it back up. It’s an old Chinese trick which by the way it reminded me very much of. The ugly. The reason I was generous with three stars is due to the fact that I ordered the side dish of fresh greens. What part of canned greens with bacon in it is fresh. I was shocked and appalled that a soul food restaurant would serve canned greens. oh and that side dish of greens is 3.29. A joke. I swear that underneath the façade Chinese folks are running this place in the back. It’s just very typically of the food they produce and that isn’t a bad thing but don’t try to pass it off as soul food. The menu includes other offerings that maybe I should have branched out and tried but the canned greens will keep me from coming back. Peachtree is much better in my opinion.

This is a 5 star diner. We got there on a Sunday just after 9:30am and made it right before the breakfast rush. Definitely dated décor but added to the experience. Full menu including a T-bone steak but we were in search of chicken and waffles! Didn’t take long for us each to get a waffle the size of the entire dinner plate and 3 crispy fried wings on the side. The waffle was thick and a nice crisp crunch. It was served with a scoop of butter and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The wings were some of the best fried chicken I have ever had(besides a good hot fried chicken)! The batter was peppery and a little sweet. Now that we have had the chicken and waffles we will be back. No need to try anything else!

I was so excited when I saw that this was picked for dinner club! I have been craving soul food ever since Sweet T’s closed in Olathe. I have had to settle with fast food options. As usual, I wanted to try everything on the menu! Especially the breakfast items, so we will definitely have to come back for that. We ended up ordering chicken and waffles for the kids, the bf ordered the catfish plate and I got the southern friend chicken — dark. I loved everything we ordered! Everything fried was delicious because well it is fried after all. Catfish was probably one of my favorites. It was a nice thick filet with great flavor. All of the chicken was fried and flavored perfectly. The waffles were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I also enjoyed the coleslaw. The cabbage was crisp and the dressing flavor was good. The only thing I didn’t really like was the corn. It just tasted like they opened a can of corn and served it up. Overall, it was a great experience. The only thing that would make it better were if the sides were kicked up a notch. Usually I LOVE sides more than the main course, but this time the catfish and chicken were the highlights of my dinner. We had a group of 12 for dinner club but our server, Andre, did a great job!

This was the pick for this months dinner club and needless to say we were all excited for this month. We read so many good reviews about this place and were looking forward to it all day. I ordered the chicken(dark meat) with mashed potatoes and sweet corn and corn bread. The chicken and mashed potatoes were excellent. Dipping your fried chicken in the mashed potatoes is the best way to have fried chicken. The other sides weren’t so great. The sweet corn wasn’t so sweet, kinda lacked tasted all together. Maybe I’ve never had good cornbread but it was just ok. I doused it with syrup that’s for sure. Ah forgot to mention that the fried green beans were good dipped in ranch. A good app to start with. The reason for the three stars is because the sides weren’t great. Sides make a dish! Also, the AC wasn’t turned it and it was a bit toasty in there!
