We have found heaven!!! This nursery is fantastic the staff is warm and friendly and very knowledgeable (but we already knew that). We were visiting friends on the North Shore and ran across this gem. Chris (my husband) just beat cancer and Ohau was his gift for beating it. When we stopped at the nursery we knew we found an excellent place to purchase orchids. Enough can’t be said about Peter and family/​staff. When you purchase from here you know you are getting a healthy and vibrant plant. All their plants are healthy and are just perfect. The only hard choice is what color you want. The best part of this is that Mr Olomana Orchids is so hospitable and gracious without any consideration for our ‘reviews.’ He clearly loves his work so much that he wants to share his joy in creating beautiful flowers with any and all who want to come and look around or purchase some plants. Just received my order here in Boston today in the dead of summer and every plant looked as beautiful as when I chose it last Thursday afternoon in Olomana Orchids nursery on Oahu. It was such a treat to wander through the collection. Highly recommend this place to the afficionado OR the novice orchid lover.

This orchid farm is spectacular! They create all kinds of unique hybrids that are really unique. Fair prices and good people. Seems like a close-​knit family business, which is always wonderful. The owner was very helpful, knowledgable, and friendly. He got a kick out of it when I Referred to him as the grandmaster of orchids, Comparing him to the owner of Dragon Bonsai in waimanalo as the grandmaster of bonsai.
Btw. They are the suppliers of the orchids that walmart in Hawaii sells. Just an FYI. (I guess not EVERYTHING walmart sells is from China! Apparently they buy all the plants locally. {Everything else is made in China})
Anyway if you are in the area, this place is amazing to visit! It’s by chinaman’s hat in kahekili hwy. great prices, healthy orchids, unique hybrids that are crossbred and raised by them.
The secret to their very healthy orchids?
All of the orchids are under a mesh «greenhouse» sort of dealio, providing them indirect sunlight but also shade. They have an automatic misting system to water the orchids gently, And they are so healthy!

I had a happy shopping and shipping experience picking out my own orchid plants from Olomana Orchids. I didn’t meet the owners, but the two employees who assisted me (Justine and someone whose name I didn’t get) were very helpful, friendly, and informative. What really impressed me was the shipping and packaging: speedy FedEx service to the East Coast and ALL the packaging was recyclable and compostable (so great not to be stuck with disposal of a bunch of rigid Styrofoam, peanuts, bubble wrap, etc.). The orchids arrived in perfect condition, and in fact looked like they’d been groomed and tidied before shipping. I’m very pleased with my orchids and plan to visit Olomana again the next time I’m vacationing on the main island.

A few months ago we bought three orchids here. We were extremely pleased with the friendly and attentive service we received. Being first time orchid owners we were nervous, but the staff was very informative and helpful in assisting us with our purchase. Not only was the quality of service exceptional but the prices of our plants were far less than we had expected to spend. I highly recommend Olomana Orchids!

The owners, a brother and sister team, Peter and Trudy, REALLY know their orchids! They are very friendly and willing to answer any questions or just make orchid conversation. This business was started by their father, and Peter lives on the property. They are only open until about 3, so hurry there. Orchid selection was pretty good, saw a few hybrids I had never seen before.
But it’s the great prices that sets this place apart! WHOO! Left there with 6 different orchids. You can pay with cash or card.

Whenever I have visitors to the Islands, Olomana Orchids is one of the requisite stops along the way up around the East side to the North Shore. The reason why has mostly to do with the family that runs Olomana Orchids, and their philosophy and subtle passion for the art of the love of Orchids.
Orchids are among the most difficult of flowers to care for. And their needs change, depending on the individual strain of Orchid. Much like the care and love of women for men, the love and tending of Orchids is a thing that requires understanding, care, love, affection, and a willingness to not choose the easy thing; but instead to dedicate oneself to a pursuit that may be difficult and challenging to understand and implement, but ultimately rewards. In the case of Orchids, it is a beautiful, sustainable bloom that can last a lifetime. In the case of women, it is a beautiful, sustainable, bloom that can last a lifetime.
I will be honest, and say that I do not understand women, and I do not understand orchids, but I strive to understand both, and to love both for the curious, individual beauty that both possess. And the owner of Olomana Orchids, while he may not be able to advise me on women, possesses an incredible wealth of knowledge that he is more than happy to share about Orchids.
My (now-​ex) fiancée and I visited Olomana Orchids a few weeks ago, and were treated to not only exceptional service, but were provided with above-​and-​beyond education on the various kinds of orchids, and the care and love of them. It fascinates me, how some are so hardy and easy to tend to, and yet are so beautiful; on the other hand, how some are so rare and so difficult as a diamond in the rough, yet are so incomprehensibly beautiful that my breath was taken away at their beauty, much as a woman’s. These at Olomana Orchids are often unique, bred to be their own, individual, that you can only find here. Cared for and raised individually, perhaps just for you.
It is in my opinion that if you, as a man, can care for and love and raise and orchid to success, you are one step closer to learning how to learn and understand and respect the things that make a woman unique, herself, and how to love her and care for her.
Anyway.
I bring my visitors here because the owners are extremely helpful. There is a display room where you can view what they have; and they have a growing area that you have access to also, where you can see what is actually going on. I have never met anyone who understands and has the kind of passion for orchids that I can identify with, and the owners will take the time to educate and help you select the orchids that are right for what you want. The other thing I have always really admired is that like a good friend when it comes to relationships, they won’t let you buy an orchid that is «junk», meaning, they won’t let you buy an orchid which looks good at the moment, but will quickly degrade and not last.

Prices are very reasonable also. We were able to buy for as inexpensively as $ 7, and depending on how you want it packed and shipped, will be similarly affordable (they do fully certified shipping to the mainland US). The owners are also very honest, and will tell you which ones are worth buying and which ones are not. They will teach you about how to observe the stems and roots, and the mistakes people make in looking at how the current bloom is, instead of how the history of the stems are, and about the buds. We trusted his advice, and today, even though she and I are no longer together, I have an incredibly beautiful bloom of orchids planted in my backyard that I tend to, as beautiful as Olomana Orchids promised, growing and flourishing as predicted and advised, for only $ 7 dollars.
Look for Olomana Orchids on the way to Kualoa. Left side of the road if you’re heading north. Right side if you’re heading south. They are worth a stop, especially if you are a visitor, or taking visitors on a tour of our islands to show them a unique experience that they can take home with them.
Orchids are a labor of love. A labor of love that most often is worth the effort. Learn to love and care for an orchid, and you will be able to take the first step toward learning how to love and care for a woman. She, like an orchid, is delicate yet strong. Beautiful, but if you don’t care for it, will cease to bloom. And if you take care of it right, will be a reward in itself.
Stop by if you are on your North Shore drive/​tour. Talk to the owner. It will be worth it, and you may even come away with something beautiful that you can grow for a lifetime.

My family just returned from a vacation in Hawaii. While there we stopped in at Olomana Orchids. The wife and I had 2 orchids shipped home to MA. The owner was extremely helpful in helping us choose what had the best characteristics to grow in our region (we know nothing about growing orchids). We picked two which just arrived today. First the packing was meticulous, in my wife’s words, «There was no way anything was going to move». The blooms were still intact. Second as a bonus the owner included a third orchid (seedling) free! We would definitely buy from Olomana Orchids again. A mighty Mahalo nui loa from Massachusetts Olomana!

Heading up north to play tourist is always fun. Businesses that survive are the ones designed for that tourism experience. Shaved Ice, food carts, souvenir «art» galleries, gas stations, convenience stores, and of course plant nurseries.
Olomana Orchids is the last orchid nursery standing in this region, and with good reason. They have very sell-​able orchids, very friendly staff, very attractive nursery, and a great easy-​to-​spot location.
Olomana is a massive producer of dendrobiums. When you enter their nursery, there’s thousands upon thousands of dendrobiums. I’m not a fan of dendrobiums, but they are quite easy to sell to the average-​joe that wants an orchid. They bloom consistently, easy to care for, and not fragile which is great for sending.
The first time I came here was many many years ago, before I was interested in orchids. Even then, I was not a dendrobium fan. I spoke to the owner, Peter. He suggested I would probably be more interested in flamboyant species, told me which nurseries carried them, and invited me to an orchid show. I suppose, I can say thanks to him, I now collect orchids.
I would personally give this place 3 stars, but that’s from a collector’s standpoint. From the point of view of a person traveling up north and wanting to by orchids, this place deserves 4 stars.
