This Unilocal app is great! I clicked on «Hot and New» and this restaurant appeared in Kaneohe.. Whaaat? Yesss! Open for about 2 months now, Liang’s Kitchen is located on the corner of Kamehameha Highway and Lilipuna Street behind the Aloha Gas Station. It’s between Clinical Laboratory and Saigon Noodle House at the Windward Square. It’s a quaint, clean and bright place for take out or dining in. Just place your order at the counter and you’ll be called when your food is ready. There was a lot of free parking at this odd hour between lunch and dinner. I can imagine it would be a crowded parking lot since it’s shared with El Mariachi and Saigon Noodle restaurants. I was looking at the menu outside when a woman(maybe Liang?) came outside to greet me and tried to give me a takeout menu. Determined to order something, I ventured in and scoped out the white boards where I zoomed in on the Beef with Asparagus on Noodle. For $ 1 more, I took the upgrade to Cake Noodles. YUM! I really enjoyed biting on the crunchy exterior and finding the softer noodles covered in tasty gravy! The beef was thin and tender. The asparagus was fresh and firm! The sweet onions and some black bean sauce gave it some character! Ono! For good measure, I also got the BBQ Chicken and all rice(instead of macaroni salad). I think I’m getting swayed by Bruddah Fran who doesn’t like mayo. Haha! The chicken was moist and flavorful! And, I don’t really like chicken! But — this was done well, so it was a true test for goodness! It happened to be Happy Hour, so I received 2 bags of the FREE gyoza — 4 pieces in each bag. They were deep fried with dry, hard edges. I’m still trying to decide if I liked them or not. The crunchiness — yes. The taste — good. Overall — okay, so, I must have liked them. They are all gone! Ooops! So, this is a typical local spot. I probably will return and get the Garlic Shrimp or the Lau lau plate. I’d also get the Shave ice for fun. Maybe I’ll try the catering option. It’s fun going to new places — especially when Unilocal tells me it’s «Hot and New»! Mahalo Unilocal

Liang’s Kitchen just opened in Kaneohe. I know this is a very early review after one visit and about 2 days of being open. My intent is to get them on the map and describe what they do. Liang’s is self described as Local BBQ, Stir Fry and Catering. To be honest I walked in thinking it was a Chinese place. I would describe it as L & L without Beef Stew. So it is 99% local style plate lunch, They do serve breakfast and plan on doing serious catering. Location: Kahuhipa and Kam Hwy behind Aloha Gas Station, next door to Saigon Noodle and El Mariachi. Small parking lot in the evening because of all the diners at Saigon and El Mariachi. Venue: Small shop with adequate seating. Very clean place with new tables. All Styrofoam containers. Ordering: Phone in ordering for take outs. Order and pay at the counter. Food: Like I said it is basic plate lunch style. Two large scoops of white rice. One large scoop of mac salad. BBQ meat or fish on top. Basic burgers etc. Some stir fry items in plate lunch form. Some items are offered mini or regular. Basic Breakfast items(they open at 0600AM). My wife got the Garlic Ahi Plate. See the picture. The one regular plate will serve a family of four. I’m not exaggerating. I asked if there was anything without meat and got a blank stare. I clarified«You know like vegetarian?» That didn’t get a response either. They don’t have any meatless items on the menu except for french fries. Then it was suggested, «Oh, Chinese Chicken Salad?» So that is what I got. The salad will also serve about 4 people. The servings are huge. The garlic ahi was quite good with two very large thick slices. The salad was excellent. Vegetarian: French Fries and white rice! LOL That’s about it. The concept of vegetarian was foreign to them. I didn’t eat the chicken in the salad, just the salad part. I guess that is another option. Service: Friendly and efficient. Although a brand new place these guys are very experienced and it shows. It seems to be a family run operation. Yup: Four Stars! Nice clean shop, friendly efficient service, quality food and generous servings, low prices. I’m pretty confident you won’t be disappointed based on what I saw. Lots of people don’t understand ‘vegetarian’ so I won’t hold it against them.
