red velvet: yumm! super sweet and dense. they are tasty but i can only handle one. frosting is on the small side, because its rich and heavy it turns out to be just enough. this not your typical generic grocery store cupcake. you can taste the difference. cupcakes were offered in 2 sizes: tiny or small. three bites and poof! prices were hefty enough to make me a little uncomfortable. i didn’t even realize i was holding my breath until i relaxed my grip on my wallet. maybe i’m a cheapskate, but i work too hard to spend like this regularly. definitely worth the taste. will treat myself again in a couple months. mmmm!

Nobody at the front counter for the ten minutes we waited during normal business hours. Poor form! Two stars because the cupcakes looked good through the glass case.

Hokulani never disappoints! They have amazing cupcakes that are moist and consistently delicious. The flavors are so good and they are baked to perfection. I swear, every time we come to Windward Mall, we try to avoid stopping here because we always hit up all the diet breaker places like Ben & Jerry’s, Hotdog On A Stick, and Cookie Corner already. But we can’t! It’s irresistible! Love it and we never cone away disappointed with our cupcake choice. It’s All that good! Oh and they take Apple Pay!

I thought I had tried these cupcakes before, but I wasn’t sure. I was at a birthday party where they served these types of fancy desserts, and I was distracted with all of the festivities… It was my niece’s birthday and I wasn’t focused so much on food, believe it or not! haha! This time, I made sure that I had the cupcakes from this bakery, located on the Ground Floor of Windward Mall in Kaneohe, Hawaii. I had a coupon from the MidWeek Newspaper: Buy 3 and get one free. The regular cupcakes are $ 2.95 and the special ones are $ 3.50. My bill came out to almost $ 10 because the Salted Caramel is a specialty one. I also was curious about the Snickerdoodle, the Kahlua Coffee, and the Lilikoi — these were $ 2.95 each. I took the four cupcakes home(so that I could concentrate) in a box with a folded brown paper bag taped to the inside of the box with their logo showing. My scientific mind was focused as I disected each cupcake into four equal parts so I could taste each one with equal amounts of frosting. It’s too difficult to bite into the cupcake because of its height. Instead of plowing in sideways, you can consume it from top to bottom if you divide it into quarters. It’s less messy because it’s bite sized! The experiment started with Snickerdoodle — I had no idea what that would taste like. It’s nondescript. I still cannot explain the flavor… plain? The next one was Salted Caramel — good! Very moist as evidenced by the mark it left on the bottom of the box. Kahlua Coffee was as expected — couldn’t really taste the Kahlua, just had a light coffee flavor. The best(in my opinion) was the lilikoi — it is rated the #2 cupcake(after red velvet). I like fruity flavors, so I enjoyed this one the most. I noticed the sugar crystals on the top of the frosting had a nice, surprising crunch! In general, all of the four cupcakes were moist and satisfying with good texture. The frostings were a perfect match with the cake portion — not too sweet and not too oily(some frostings leave a film in your mouth, but this one did not!). All of the cupcakes look so beautiful in the display case! I will have to go back and try more — with another coupon, of course! The price is the only thing that is holding me back from getting the carrot cake, chocolate, and the seasonal Egg Nog & Pumpkin! YUM!!!

I’ve always loved the cupcakes from Hokulani. Yesterday was no different. We were at Windward Mall for the costume contest. I saw the bakery and had to get it. I opted for the Salted Caramel and the Sweet Potato. It’s pricey at $ 3.50 a pop but they were oh so good. I’ve tried quite a few of their flavors in the past and they were all very moist. The Salted Caramel had a cream cheese frosting on the top, drizzled with caramel. The inside of the cupcake also contained caramel. The Sweet Potato had a cream cheese frosting on the top as well, sprinkled with purple sugar. If I had to choose between the two, I’d go with the Salted Caramel. The Salted Caramel is to die for!

My husband picked me up eight cupcakes for my birthday this past Monday 9÷28÷15. I love cup cakes but if we buy we usually go Safeway or Whole Foods. I enjoyed the choices he picked out, we ate one after our dinner and we were very disappointed. I was so excited to try cup cakes from a bakery where all they do is cup cakes. I have to tell you we will probably not be back. I prefer Safeway, at least all the cup cakes are uniform, they all look the same. They all have just the right amount of icing, which Hokulani is real stingy with. You barely get the size of a quarter & the amount is barely any. One of my cup cakes was kind of messed up with someone touched the cup cake before it cooled down. The cup cakes were stale, poorly decorated. The girls that worked there tried to get him to buy 12 so he could get a discount, thank goodness he didn’t. I would have told him not to waste his money on any of them. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings as he did this for my Bday, but we both agreed something had to be said. You guys need to get it together, does your Kahala shop & Ala Moana shop serve the same inconsistent, stale, barely any icing cup cakes ??? Just wondering

Love their cupcakes! The s’mores cupcake was a little dry, but the flourless chocolate cupcake was amazing and moist and nothing I expected it be. The red velvet filled cupcake was also moist but not overwhelming, which I enjoyed. Their shave ice cupcake was a bit weird, but seemed true to flavor, at least a little. I also love their snickerdoodle cupcake. Can’t go wrong with that one. Sweet, but in a home-y way. Overall, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with their cupcakes! I’m always tempted to try a new flavor, and one day I’m sure I will have tried all of them(except peanut butter. allergic, unfortunately). Hokulani also did well with their hiring, because of all the times I’ve been here, the girls have been so nice! They always tell me what they really think about a cupcake if I ask them how it is, and they’ve described it well every time! I was hesitant about the flourless chocolate cupcake, thinking it would be dry, but the girl reassured me that it would be the opposite of dry, and she was right! Moist, chocolate-y goodness. I’m a big fan of this place, but they sometimes run out of cupcakes so quickly! I really want to try their green tea brownie. I’ll be back, Hokulani! Definitely one of the best additions to Windward Mall. :) I’d say it brightens up the mall with its delicious cupcakes and colorful storefront. Can’t wait to try more!

Wanted to try these cupcakes. Went there at 8:40 last night. Wanted two cupcakes and was informed that because it was so close to closing I had to buy a box of six assorted cupcakes. What ever was left over that I didn’t even want. This girl would not budge. Really? What a rip off. Guess I’ll never try these cupcakes.

I bought a dozen cupcakes for my son’s birthday. We got the s’mores, strawberry guava, lilikoi, toasted coconut, chocolate buttercream, and snickerdoodle. The first cupcake we tried was the s’mores, and it was extremely stale. We were really disappointed. However, the strawberry guava and lilikoi were fresh and delicious. I wish I’d just gotten those two flavors! We haven’t tried the others yet. I’ll definitely go back, but I will ask what was made that day vs the day prior.

Yum! These cupcakes are delicious. The consistency of the cake is fluffy and it’s got so much flavor. Their icing is not too sweet, smooth and creamy. A whole lot of flavor in that as well. These cupcakes weren’t heavy. Their flavor options are awesome as well. Strawberry Guava and Lilikoi were my top faves. The employee was kind and quick. This particular location is inside Windward Mall.

Perhaps you know Hokulani from Food Network’s cupcake wars show. But they have a location in Windward Mall, downstairs across from PAC Sun. It’s more like a kiosk, and there’s a window where you can view all the flavors of cupcakes. They even have«monthly flavors» that you can choose from too. The cupcakes are about 2 dollars a cupcake, which is a bit high, considering you can get a pack at Safeway for 10 dollars. But they have gourmet flavors like Strawberry-Guava, lilikoi, and red velvet. If you refrigerate these cupcakes, they will become hard and dry. However, they’re good if you eat them fresh. Are they worth 2 bucks a cupcake though? Not really. I think the price is more because of the publicity this business has. Overall, if you’re in windward mall and you want a little treat(emphasis on TREAT, going back to the price), you should stop here! Recommended flavor is their Strawberry Guava
