Radisson Plaza Hotel at Kalamazoo Center

I just stayed here for 2 nights last weekend. It was my 2 girls (4 & 8), my pregnant wife, & myself. We are from Indiana and went to Bittersweet to go skiing and to teach my 4 yr old for to ski for the first time.
We arrived Friday night and the girls immediately wanted to hit the pool up. We swam for about an hour and the pool was great. When we got ready to leave the pool area my wife left her phone by the seat she was at for 2 minutes and returned to the area to get it and it was stolen. I tried to locate the phone and it was offline right away. I notified security about the incident and was told they would contact me immediately. After 45 minutes, I called security again. This time they said they would call me right back. I waited another 30 minutes and finally called the police to report the stolen phone and went down to the lobby and asked for the head of security again. This time he talked to me and I took him to the pool and showed him where my wife was sitting. I told him the 10 minute time frame to look at the security camera footage and asked if he could cross reference that with the pool sign in sheet (there were only about 12 people in the pool during the time frame). He then said he did not know if he could do this and asked if my wife was sure she didn’t just lose her phone or drop it in the water. After I told him we were very positive the phone had been stolen, I was told he was getting ready to leave and he would just have to pass this off to the night shift security team. So, I waited about 10 minutes until the night security team started and introduced myself to them. These guys were great, and by then the police were involved and at the hotel. I went over all the details and gave them my phone number and went back up to my room.
About an hour later I received a phone call from Security that our phone had been recovered and they were on their way up to my room to return the phone.
That was just Friday night.
After a full day of skiing with my girls we returned to our room and watched a movie and ordered some room service. We all went to bed around 9:30. At 10:00 pm, room next to us became so loud that it woke 3 of us up. It sounded like a party was going on. I let this go on for about 30 minutes and finally called the front desk. Nothing slowed down next door for another 30 minutes, so I called the front desk again. I was asked by the front desk if I would like to move rooms. I said that I did not think I should have to wake my daughter up and move because another room is being so loud. About a minute later the room next to me opened their adjoining door and started hitting our door and yelling profanities at us as they were referencing our room number. Obviously the front desk had told them what room number had called to complain. I can honestly say that I was extremely worried for the well being of my family. As I was getting ready to call the police, they hotel security arrived and regulated the situation.
I listened to the conversation between the security team and the people next door and the hotel decided to move the people in the room next to us to another floor. As they left the room, I counted 23 people that were in the room. Almost everyone had something to say to us as they walked by our door.
I did not sleep the entire night because I was concerned that someone was going to come back up to my room to retaliate.
The hotel should have evicted everyone in that room for the evening, not just moved them to another floor.
The next morning I asked a few of the people staying in the rooms on my hall if they heard anything during the night. The two people I asked said it was so load they could not sleep until about 11:30. However, they also said they did not call the front desk.
Overall, this was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. We were robbed, threatened, & concerned for our safety.

I stayed here for a night while going to an interview in Kalamazoo. I didn’t have to pay for the stay, so I can’t comment on whether it was worth the price, however, I can tell you that this place is great! The rooms are clean and super quiet. The bed is comfy, lots of pillows to choose from, and plenty of warmth in the comforter. The shower is nice (though the shower head could use a little work — was kinda spraying all over the place rather than directly on me). They have a coffee maker and a corkscrew available for your drinking pleasure. The parking is available across the street of valet (very little difference in price). There is an amazing breakfast — omelette station, plenty of fruit, fresh squeezed oj, bacon and sausage, hash browns, and a lot of other stuff. Probably the best breakfast I’ve had at a hotel, honestly. Overall lovely place, people were nice, and location is awesome. Definitely a great place to stay while in Kzoo!

I was in town recently for a conference that was held at the Radisson. It was definitely nice that all of our meeting rooms, etc were in the same building that we were staying at. And, I was pretty happy with the gym at the hotel, although, you should know that all of the cardio machines are generally occupied in the mornings. But, they have an exercise classroom where you can do your own workouts, which is what I did, and it was great.
The room that I stayed in was just okay. It wasn’t the cleanest place I’ve stayed — the bedsheets looked a little used on one of the beds, and I don’t think they cleaned the closet items very often (the ironing board, for example, looked very worn and torn).
The meeting rooms also had chairs that weren’t super comfortable, but I understand that this is conference life. The food at the conference was good though, except for a lunch one day which featured chicken and roasted vegetables. The chicken was very, very dry. Ugh.
I can see why people would want to host their large events here, and would probably attend again. For a location that was accommodating 500+ people for our conference, it was probably a 4 star experience. But, without that context, and just thinking about my guest room, I would definitely be giving this place 2 stars. So, here you have it — 3 stars, ftw!

My wife and I were in town to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Upon arrival the staff was warm and welcoming. Travis at the front desk wished us a happy anniversary and explained everything to look forward to for our stay. He was so kind and generous, what a great way to be welcomed to the hotel! We stayed in one of the jacuzzi suites, and the room was big, beautiful, modern, and had everything we could want! A kitchenette with sink, microwave, and mini-​fridge. A sitting area with a table and two chairs, a pull out couch, a workstation, and best of all… a jacuzzi! It was a great hotel, walking distance to all the restaurants and bars. My wife and I valeted our car, and didn’t need it once all weekend! Will def be back!

I was a guest at the Kalamazoo Radisson during a Conference in September! At first glance, the hotel is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Décor – stunning! The interior designers did a fabulous job! Besides the hotel being gorgeous, it was very CLEAN & SANITARY!
Front desk staff were fantastic – very willing to be of service and assist when needed. I lost my gorgeous grey cardigan on the last day of the Conference unfortunately and the front desk staff were extremely intent on trying to locate it. We didn’t have any luck, but they were willing to enter my information into their computer system just in case someone’s conscience gets the better of them and turns it in! I appreciate that
Guest rooms: Beautiful and spacious, with THE MOST COMFORTABLE beds and pillows I have EVER had the privilege of lying my body/​head on!!! Thank you! The ONLY complaint I have about the room was the lack of HOT bath water. This is NOT to say that there was a problem as I did have a nice bath, but I tend to prefer a HOT, not lukewarm bath. It could’ve been the fact that there were 4 conferences simultaneously?!
Free WiFi is ALWAYS a hit for someone like me! Thanks Radisson. Connecting to the wireless network was seamless – a piece of cake!

Hungry in the morning!!! Just travel a few floors via elevator and visit Burdick’s for Breakfast! I consumed (well wolfed down) the food items offered on the buffet like I had never eaten before! Boy oh boy… everything you could possibly want was right there! The chefs prepare your eggs, pancakes, other specialty items while you travel around the buffet piling on whatever else suits your breakfast fancy. We had the same waitress 2 days in a row and she was FANTASTIC! I can’t believe that I don’t/didn’t get her name
Overall, very pleasant experience. From what I hear about parking, I am so glad that my organization was willing to foot the bill for parking in the ramp!

I have to say that I was pretty underwhelmed with my stay here. It is a really nice hotel and it’s close to everything in downtown Kalamazoo, but my experience wasn’t the best.
First, the room was not up to par with the price. I took a shower and the water didn’t drain. My husband also had to take a shower, so he had to stand in the leftover water from my shower. I thought it was just slow to go down but when we left a day later, the water still had not receded. Also the toilet clogged with just some toilet paper so needless to say, the plumbing blows.
Parking is expensive as hell. $ 20 a day to park it in the garage across the street. It’s valet parking but there were a few times that no one was even there. We had to ask for our keys to get the car ourselves. I don’t need valet, nor do I really like it, but don’t charge that much for parking if you have to play «find and park the car» yourself. The valet parking is also advertised as 24 hour parking. Not so. No big deal, right? As long as you can still get your keys? Wrong. Oh so wrong.
It was a huge freaking deal. Not to me, but to an unruly guest who took out her anger on a poor overnight attendant and on me. My husband and I were walking back from a night out when we came across a drunk woman screaming at the overnight desk attendant. She wanted to get to her car but alas, there was no valet at midnight. Being the idiot I am, I offered to show her where her car was, since I had navigated the parking garage earlier that day. Rather than being grateful, she was completely irate and crazy, yelling at me and calling me names… me, the one helping her. Meanwhile, my husband was talking to the shaken up attendant. Things didn’t go well in the garage and I came back crying out of frustration and anger. Why did I do it? I knew the attendant couldn’t leave the lobby unattended and I knew no matter what she wanted to say to the woman, she couldn’t because she’s working. I wasn’t, so I could get away with more. Not that it ended well but I was trying to help. Radisson, to avoid situations like this, you should have at least two people at the front desk; don’t say 24-​hour valet if it’s not; have security on hand at night.
My rating is not for the incident because that was out of the attendant’s control. It’s for the crappy room and BS policies that end up affecting customers negatively. I’ll still give it a 3-​star rating because it has potential to be an okay hotel and maybe I was really unlucky this time, but Radisson, you were very close to 2 stars. Get it together.

The wifi was working very poorly, complained to front desk on second and got no resolution until I wrote a review on Unilocal I got resolution and magically it started working. One good thing I do like that I haven’t seen in most hotels, I’m not sure why it took so long to figure out, but the drapes overlap so you don’t get that blinding spotlight of sun through them.

Mad bonus points for your gym, Radisson Plaza KZoo. Both a local club and the hotel gym, this was easily one of my favorite hotel gyms ever. I didn’t partake of the awesome pool/​hot tub situation, but the cardio and weightlifting equipment and studio were spot on. (Bosu, kettlebells, TRX… the studio had ‘em all, folks.)
Bottom line: great, inexpensive spot to stay if ever you find yourself in KZoo. Price point and quality? All there!

I called to get a room for my wedding night. My friend had raved about how well they were to him when he stayed for his anniversary. I called to set up the reservation and I explicitly stated it was for my wedding which the employee never commented on or anything. As I gave her the October 24^th date she was like «We have a few rooms. Will you be the only guest in the room?». I was like, NO… did you not just hear me say I was getting married so there will be two of us for 2 nights. Again, no empathy or comments about why I wanted to book there with it being my wedding.
So, if anyone knows of a better place to stay for my wedding night please let me know! This place obviously doesn’t care.

Excellent stay except for the neighbors. The door that seperate a rooms definitely does not separate sounds. We had some in experienced rappers at 1am. It took security 30 minutes to get them to stop playing music. Other than that the room was perfect and the staff was pleasant. We would definitely stay again.

I think niceness is just inbred into folks who live in the midwest. Everyone here at this hotel was so pleasant, smiles abound as well as fantastic service.
The hotel is located in an extremely convenient area of Kalamazoo, and I will say I was surprised at the quality of the hotel as I heard Kalamazoo was not exactly a metropolis. Very nice!
Rooms were well-​appointed and extremely clean.
Though there weren’t any dedicated outlets on the bed stand, there were some conveniently located between the 2 queen beds that were in my room. Parking was actually a little pricier than I would have expected; $ 20/​night, but the valet folks were MORE than efficient, I was never, ever waiting for my car.

Busy hotel with lots of events all year long! The rooms are nice, big and comfortable. The staff is very polite and accommodating. The hotel is close to many walking-​distance places and restaurants!

Positives:
Convenient location with a parking lot that has a bridge into the hotel.
Starbucks coffee in the shop on the first level.

Negatives:
Really awful dinner in the conference center. Dry, dry chicken. Did I say it was dry?
Surly staff. Didn’t respond well to requests from other people at my table. They didn’t appear to have been trained well. Certainly the ones I observed did not act like they cared about their jobs.

Spent four days here for training. Nice hotel, lots of conveniences in the lobby, coffee, restaurant, gift shop, breakfast place, etc. Parking is expensive though! Nearly $ 20 a day and no free WiFi :(Not even for hotel guests.

This was the hotel that the Chicago Spirit Brigade stayed in while volunteering and performing at Kalamazoo Pride, located at nearby Arcadia Park. The hotel was beautiful and unexpected as I have heard that Kzoo is a small place. The hotel is conveniently located and ~5min walking distance to the Amtrak Station. The rooms were clean and uniquely decorated. The beds were so comfortable that my roommate actually inquired about the mattress brand. The hotel features conference room space and a breakfast mezzanine area. There is also elevator security, which was appreciated. In order to use the elevator, you need to swipe your room key and then press your room floor.
The real gem of this hotel is the pool and whirlpool, located in the Spa and fitness area. The pool is brilliant with a waterfall feature. This was the most beautiful hotel pool area I have ever experienced. The whirlpool was a great hot temperature and could easily fit 10 people. We spoke to an elderly couple and apparently, they make this Radisson their spa getaway, since the whirlpool is great for their aches and pains. There are also towels available and you can take it up to your room.
The rate was affordable and you get so much bang for your buck here. This would be a great space for weddings or girls weekend getaway. There is a small souvenir/​food shop featuring Starbucks coffee as well as snack bars for reasonable prices and a restaurant called Burdick’s attached. There are also a variety of restaurants within walking distance. The vending machines take credit cards too.
I could see myself taking a weekend vacation to this hotel. So highly recommended.

A pretty comfy hotel in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo. You can tell they recently spent some money on upgrades in the lobby and rooms and it shows. Nothing super upscale or unique like boutique hotels popping up all around but it’s open and clean and comfortable.
In the lobby there’s a large area for congregating and a number of different shops and restaurants. I was only here for a day so I didn’t really get to explore but I noticed two restaurants at least plus a shop with a Starbucks in it, I believe. So if you need coffee they’ve got that too (in addition to a maker in your room).
My room was on the 5^th floor and was nice and spacious with a double bed. The beds were really comfy and I slept like a roc (the down pillows were particularly easy to sink into). The bathroom was spotless and very roomy and there was a nice fuzzy bathmat on the floor. I’m used to seeing towels so this was a nice surprise. It was bright white so I know they do a good job cleaning them.
My biggest complaint is the thermostat. There’s no way to manage the temperature. It’s either on/​off, low/​high and then a few levels of heat or cold. When I walked in the room was freezing so I turned the heat on before I left for dinner. When I came back it was boiling in there even though I had turned the heat on low. It just runs constantly rather than maintaining a singular temperature. Kind of a drag.
Valet is easy and they’re very nice. There’s also a self park across the street if you’d like to save a few bucks. Check out was easy and the keys are more like a fob than a card which makes getting into your room simple (many a time have I fiddled with a key to get it to read properly).
The main draw here is the location. Conveniently located by the Kalamazoo mall for shopping and eating and also a couple of blocks from the new Alamo Drafthouse if you want to catch a movie. A few more blocks takes you to Bell’s, Beer Exchange and a number of other bars/​clubs if you want to go out.
The hotel is certainly the nicest I’ve experienced in Kalamazoo thus far but it’s not the fanciest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. But for the location and the comfort it does just the trick.

We pulled up and we were promptly greeted by the valet, very friendly and professional. As we went to enter the hotel we notice a posting that states that they will be closing the next day for electrical repairs and everyone will need to be out by 11am, 1 hour before check out. Really, not a big deal in the realm of everything, but being that they had our email from our reservation, a nice customer service touch would have been to let us know as soon as they knew.
We get to the front desk for check in and the woman that is checking us in is chomping away at her gum asking for our last name. She then proceeds to say, «let’s see we have a room for you.» I was a little concerned, I knew we had made reservations, how could we not have a room. We said we had reservations and she clarified she wanted to make sure that she that a room was ready because we were an hour early. I have to say it was more the tone that she used about the whole thing, that was a little irritating. That along with the fact that we were being told we had to leave an hour early the next day, a touch of customer service would have been nice.
The room was small, but clean and had a nice view. The bathroom was even smaller and I’m not sure how the door didn’t run into the toilet. The shower was probably the worst water pressure I’ve ever had to deal with. I could have rinsed my hair faster standing outside in the rain.
Check out was fine, we could have left our room cards in the room, but we always like to return them to the front desk. My husband stood in line to return the cards and had two people cut in front of him and the front desk staff never said a word. It wasn’t that busy but it didn’t seem like the front desk could handle the few people there.
The valet at check out was prompt and offered any further directions we needed upon leaving the hotel.
Overall there was nothing spectacular about our stay with the exception of the valet and location, which is a sad commentary on this hotel and the cost of staying there.

I worked in Kalamazoo for several months on a consulting project, and the majority of my team stayed at the Radisson downtown. This is the swankiest hotel in Kalamazoo, but that is not saying much. In order to receive proper customer service, you must demand it. This is not a business hotel, but if you find yourself traveling to Kalamazoo for business, this is probably the best hotel to stay at. I also stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott and the Sheraton by Starwood, which are much further away from downtown than the Radisson. In comparison, the other two hotels are very average to below average.
If you do get the pleasure of staying in one of the suites at the Radisson, either by Club Carlson points or by sheer luck, you will feel like royalty. I stayed in a few of the Jacuzzi suites, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The suites are very large, but from my experiences, the rooms vary in quality, so you really have no idea if you will get a «good» or «bad» room.
The Radisson has a gym, pool, and sauna on its lowest floor. The gym opens at 6am, and closes at 9pm, which really limited the times I could work out. The gym is never too crowded even though it is open to the public for membership, and it is well kept.
There are four restaurants and one coffee shop at the Radisson Kalamazoo, which are convenient, but I would recommend venturing out of the hotel to the nearby «mall» area and surrounding streets to explore places to eat that are not as overpriced and more unique to Kalamazoo. There is also a salon/​spa (yay) in the hotel building, along with a very nice boutique. Location is everything here.
There is valet parking, which can get crowded if there are conferences or hotel events, or if it is a weekend.
The staff is a mixed bag. My teammates and I experienced some very helpful hotel employees, but others seemed annoyed by our requests. Quality in customer service was a very inconsistent experience.

First class property, feels more like a Marriott or a Westin or The W than a Radisson. Swank lobby recently redone totally resembles a W hotel. Rooms are first class: great beds, flat screens and totally updated with great colors.
Attached gym is Kalamazoo Athletic Club! Glide down the escalator, and voila! Free to hotel guests, and is one of the 2 nicest hotel gyms I’ve been fortunate enough to visit in the US. AWESOME workout facility complete w full lockers and saunas in locker rooms.
Swimming pool, part of the gym space, is also first-​class, with a massive waterfall feature, plus 10 person hot tub, and all very high-​quality built.
Just pony up the extra cash if you have it, stay here, and partake of everything. 5 star property. Ridiculously easy FREE self parking in adjacent garage with skywalk runway over to hotel.
Great restaurants within hotel and other various merchants also. I never ever want to leave the Radisson. Props to Brea for helping me out with an upgrade!

Stayed here for 2 nights and this is a truly wonderful property.
Parking was a breeze– there is a parking garage attached to the hotel and they will validate your parking.
The hotel itself has been renovated recently and is gorgeous– everything from the lobby to the rooms were very chic and clean. Our room was on the 9^th floor and was a good size, bathroom was on the smaller side but overall we were happy with the room, minus some AC problems (to their credit they responded with maintenance very quickly each time we called). We had access to the lounge on the 9^th floor (called «100 West» I believe), that had drinks/​apps in the evening and breakfast in the mornings. We didn’t make it for breakfast but their «apps» leave something to be desired– it was just a huge bowl of hummus and chips– but the lounge is nice and would be a good for drinks before dinner.
The gym for the hotel is actually Kalamazoo Athletic Club and is A+. They have all the machines (cardio and weights) that you would ever need, as well as access to group fitness! The locker rooms are immaculate, and the pool/​whirlpool are top notch as well.
The location is very convenient– we walked everywhere for the 2 days we were K-​Zoo and they also have shopping and restaurants (Burdicks=delicious) on site.
The staff was great– shout out to Brea who hooked us up with an upgrade! Great property– wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else on our next trip to Kalamazoo!
