Truly in love with this store. They have everything possible to read, even old editions of newspapers. They carry the largest selection of magazines as well as books. Parking is a little difficult, but totally worth it.

We are so lucky here in Kalamazoo to have Michigan News Agency and its caring sweetheart of an owner Dean Hauck. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I go in there and browse the wide selection of books. There are racks dedicated to local authors, poetry and of course a plethora of newspapers and magazines. There are book signings, readings, and other fun events. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Never fear– Dean will order it for you and call you as soon as it arrives. We need to support this amazing small business that has been around long before e-books and mega stores. It’s a gem.

I have to throw out five stars for a business that has been around as long as these folks and continues to survive. Yeah, I’m a bit nostalgic but this business has been bringing the news to Kalamazoo since just after World War II. Imagine some of the covers and headlines that have graced these stands and shelves… There’s something about the smell of fresh print on paper that brings me back to a different time. It can’t be easy for a newsstand to stay alive in a world of instant media and Barnes and Noble. But locals support it because they know what it is. This is the kind of place where you want to loiter and allow yourself to stumble across something interesting and unique. The subject matter here is extensive and it’s intriguing what will catch your eye by simply walking the isles. If there is a specific subject matter that interests you they most likely have it or something close. All the best to this fine establishment.

one of my favorite places in Kalamazoo. go buy today’s newspaper — or yesterday’s, as they keep the extras for a day or two! halfway decent little bookstore, and probably the best selection of magazines in town.

So you want a good magazine, or a great little paperback book, or an Arturo Fuente cigar? You’ll find a minimum of 500 magazine titles that you never knew existed before you walked in the door. That’s beyond the 100 you have seen before. You like the daily news? They carry maybe 10 – 15 daily papers. A Kalamazoo and SW Michigan treasure trove for lovers of ink on paper. As other reviewers have stated, the books range the gamut from classics to Children to Sci-fi to popular to offbeat fiction(as in Best of Great Lakes fiction authors). You will always discover a selection of good cigars here if thats your thing. You can also count on intelligent and knowledgeable service from the long-time owner and her staff of hipsters(but without the hipster attitude). Real newsstand, and remains completely relevant in the Kindle/Nook/iPad era. (Note to owner: Have to knock a star off for lack of any store improvements that I can see, in a decade or more. Might want to consider a modest redesign of interior…)

Great little hideaway with every newspaper or periodical you could want! Friendly, helpful, interesting… and an amazing selection of books. A real tradition with an excellent reputation which is well deserved!

Not only a news stand, but a bookstore too. And one that highlights local authors and even has a rack of self-published books. I’m happy to spend my $‘s here.

The New Agency is one of the best news stands left in the Midwest. I love my newspapers, magazines and other PRINTED material and very few places in the country have the selection the News Agency has. If I am looking for a magazine the store doesn’t have-they get it for you pronto! Also the News Agency is my go to place when I have a hard to find paperback-they put Barnes and Noble to shame

This place is AMAZING. My friends took me here while I was visiting, and because of the name, I thought it would be a newspaper store(which is also cool, I was picturing something like News of World in New Haven), but it’s actually the most amazing little bookstore I’ve ever been in. I’m completely unsure how they manage to have such a tiny amt. of books and yet each and every one of them is so effing awesome(in every section — though the books I took were all from fiction/history/popular culture). I had to put several books back and still ended up spending over(a Very well spent) hundred bucks! OMG. Just to show you how effing awesome this place is, the titles that I had to put down in order to not break the bank entirely were: –The Tibetan Book of the Dead –Dr. Wayne Dyer’s The Power of Intention The books I bought(which attest to the sheer awesomeness of this store, of course according to my taste) were: –Slavenka Drakulic’s Café Europa: Life After Communism –Fyodor Dostoevesky’s Crime and Punishment AND The Idiot –Charles Bukowski’s Hot Water Music AND Post Office AND Pulp –Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and the Margarita –Hardt and Negri’s Empire OUTSTANDING. I am so excited to read Bukowski(ironically, I never have), and the other books will be excellent for my knowledge of cultural Russia. Oh, and the service here was excellent — the owner knew my friend, and was a complete sweetheart. I can’t emphasize enough how happy this whole experience made me. Best place I went on my whole trip. I’ll be dreaming of this place for months… though I’m sure my lack of self-restraint and bank account will thank me for being 5 hrs away from Michigan News Agency ;)

The news agency, I used to spend so much of my work-study check here before I started drinking ! Tucked on the main street is the glorious nook of newspapers, journals, magazines, and paperbacks. They had a selection of daily newspapers similar to my college’s library: the gazette, NYT, Chicago Tribune, Wash. Post, Detroit FP, every day. A wide selection of magazines and periodicals(with practically every niche and ideological perspective and some [the New African and the Wire come to mind] printed in the UK) lined the walls. They even carried a few academic journals that my college didn’t have. A selection of paperbacks(new and used) filled the aisles. There’s also some cigars, gum, candy, and maps for sale. In addition to the excellent selection, the staff is courteous. They never yelled me while I spent 20+ minutes reading articles in the magazines. After I asked why they didn’t have a particular magazine, they would check on their paper card catalog the last time they had the issue and recorded that I requested it and told me they’ll try to get the next issue for you [they didn’t always end up getting it]. I am jealous that Cleveland doesn’t have a dedicated newsstand like this and it’s also the business that I miss the most since leaving Kalamazoo(with Tiffany’s in a distant 2nd).

Local paper? Check. Pack of gum? Check. Helpful tips for an out-of-towner? Check. Non-feigned interest in where I was from and headed? Check. Instant reminiscing for a time I wasn’t even born in? Check! A functional testament to the need to support small local businesses. and may their neon never burn out!
