Nimitz Beach

Nimitz beach has a beautiful view!
And every time I go with family it is not too crowded. Grill spot for delicious bbqs, some cabins to rent you can’t go wrong.
I love the drive back of kapolei with all the old buildings and bunkers I’m a sucker for scenic grunge — perfect for photo ops.
If you work in town like I do you appreciate a beach which isn’t saturated with a million people. Enjoy !

First time I came here was in the early 70s. The park area is much different today. The grass was much greener then because it was part of Naval Air Station, Barber’s Point. It was a nice beach then accessible to military service men and their families. When the base was closed under the Reagan Administration the existence of this beach disappeared lost in the annals of history.
Then, a map was found that talked of beach where monk seals are known to appear. Spear fishing is good. Sometimes, if you go far enough, deep enough, you may get slipper lobsters. More abundant before, so few now.
As the knowledge of this beach became more known, it is happily frequented by families for special occasions. I was recently there for a birthday party and a baptismal. I will be attending another birthday party soon.
The tide pools and soft sand make this beach wonderful to visit and can afford gorgeous sunsets during the right time of the year. Great to bring your dog here.
One restroom facility does exist in the park area. Many times it is clean but there are those times where I don’t want to step in. This is a beach after all. There are no life guards here. It is still patrolled and enforced by the military because of the Coast Guard Air Base still actively present next to the beach. Be careful, be safe, don’t psst them off. If you do, it could be a federal offense.

It is so totally and completely worth the drive out here, and I can say without any hyperbole that it is nothing like any other beach I’ve been to before.
What initially may not look like much is actually its charm and what makes Nimitz so special.
There’s a nice strip of sand that’s just enough for yours truly to walk up and down without being too exhausted.
The sand is super fine, soft, and perfect to walk on, sit, or lay out.
The air is sweet and clean and refreshing.
And, as other Unilocalers will attest to, the sunsets are absolutely picturesque.
The best things of all, thanks to Unilocal’s inept directions, is its desolation is quite serene and calming (as it should be).
So maybe I should be thanking Unilocal?Nah.
So be warned: find directions here elsewhere or be prepared to venture to parts of Hawaii that no one should or want to ever visit.

Super happy we found out about this beach! So close to our house & we’ve been going to White Plains. We had a great time finding little creatures on the beach, as well as lots of shells & some sea glass. It was clean & the kids had a great time.

Place is nice when it’s not overwhelmed by birthdays parties and people throwing trash everywhere, loud music and craziness. This weekend was actually nice. Quiet not a whole lot of people here and peaceful. What a beach was meant to be…

What can I say about this beach? A hidden… TREASURE! I came here to celebrate my family reunion and I was impressed.
What I liked:
Directions– very easy to find
Parking– tons of parking. Don’t have to worry about going early to find
parking.
Open to the public-​anybody can come here. No need to have military ID
unless you want to rent open pavillions.
Pavillion– very spacious and large covering. Lots of nice picnic tables.
Near beach access.
Beach– the ocean was cool and refreshing. Beautiful water and ocean
waves… perfect for boogy boarding and surfing. A little rough,
especially as the day went on. Must supervise children …
no lifeguard on duty.
–the sand was soft, smooth and silky.
–there are tide pools. We saw ama’ama crabs, pipi’i sea snails and
I also saw a large sea snail (the size of my palm– what a GEM!)
I’m looking forward to visiting this BEAUTIFUL beach very soon. Go check it out, too!

I tried the c&c website and the state website
But there was nothing for Nimitz Beach.
Please Help

Absolutely LOVE this beach! I recently came here with friends during a late night hang out sesh, and it just blew me away at how beautiful and perfect this spot is at night! I really don’t want to Unilocal about this place, because it’s NOT a popular, congested beach like most beaches on the island, & the solitude is heavenly! But I will Unilocal for Unilocal sake. (:
Nimitz Beach — It’s not really a «swimming» beach, but more so a sit on the sand and enjoy the beach in solitude kind of beach. I mostly come here at night when there’s practically no one here, because the stars look beautiful out here at night. And with the rolling waves and the peacefulness that encompass me while I star gaze, it’s such a relaxing and completely soothing experience.
The beach’s sand is soft, and the water is really dark out here (even close to the shore), so I’m assuming it’s rather deep. But then again, I mostly come here during the late evenings, so I could be mistaken. But like I said, this beach is more for people looking for tranquility versus those looking to partake in any ocean related activity. I give this beach a five star rating, because it is «as good as it gets.»

What a GEM!!! My husband and I stumbled upon this beach after a very vague description from a co-​worker. This is minutes away from where we live. I’m almost afraid to Unilocal about this «secret spot,» since I do not want a multitude of humanity converging on my piece of heaven. But something this wonderful must be shared.
All along Coral Beach Road (past White Plains Beach & across from Coast Guard Barber’s Point Station) exists a long strip of beach — fairly untouched and only populated by the few who know about it. Parking is alongside the road and the beach only a stone’s throw away. Tidepools are abundant in this area and it is not unusual to see a monk seal basking in the sun (as we did on the first day we discovered this place). At the end of Coral Beach Road there is a fenced in area that provides picnic shelters and such. Parking is available and appears to be safe… but you never know. This area at the end of Coral Road is aka Nimitz Cove.
The beach is beautiful!!! If you are looking for a place to chill with your family or just with your significant other — this is the place to be. Also, this is a perfect spot to enjoy the sun setting without the hassle of trying to find parking. Be wary though, I wouldn’t want to be caught in this area too late in the evening — it’s pretty isolated.

This is my go to beach. It is right near my home and it is the perfect location! I run here, I bike here, I drive here — It doesn’t matter how I get here: I just make sure to get here!
Parking is easy along the street, I’ve never once had a hard time finding parking. This location is perfect because it is never very crowded and it always has a light breeze. We just love this beach… So much I thought about posting a bad review to encourage people not to come here and keep it not crowded! (I kid, I kid! Geez!)
Many times we have come here and seen monk seals laying on the beach or frolicking in the water!
This beach is definitely a winner in my book!

This beach is pretty good for beginning surfers. The smaller waves are on the inside but the bigger stronger waves are further out. I like it because its just a 5 minute drive from my house. It mainly catches south swells during the summer months. The wind may be a challenge at times.

This beach is off the campgrounds down from White Plains. Surfing here is more fun for me because it is way less crowded and the waves are a little farther apart. The close showers are always broken and parking is pretty much «find a place that looks like you can park it in the dirt» but I prefer this place to White Plains on most days. There are bathrooms and there is a shower head that kinda works on that building. No lifeguard.

Perfect beach for the family with great parking. Come for the sunset!

Again… This is about 15 – 20 Minutes away from my home! There is a lot of Parking, but I’d suggest keep your car within «seeing» distance. This is White Sand, and there is Plenty of room for anyone! I like to go here beause of again The Location, and you can see the sun set!!! Beautiful…
This place is good if you just wanna gather your thoughts, walk along the shore, eat your plate lunch, or even take your family!

Sometimes I’m just looking for a place to eat my plate lunch and I want to see the ocean but I don’t want to leave my car. I know contradictory but true. Nimitz beach is one of those spots. I usually make the left turn and head to White Plains but one day I wondered what was at the end of the road and kept going till I found people parked on the side of the road playing and having fun. Nimitz is a great beach. lots of space and hardly anyone there. I think the lack of bathrooms may be the only drawback but don’t make like you didn’t pee in the ocean the last time you went swimming. I haven’t tried to surf here yet but that most likely won’t happen (I’d rather take my chances in town but if I’m here I’d rather surf White Plains). A Foodland poke bowl would be an ideal pick up before your arrival here. I can just picture it now!

My all time favorite beach! I live in town and usually go to Ala Moana Beach because it’s close and right in town. However, if you don’t get there before 11:00am on a Saturday or Sunday, forget about it! You won’t be able to find any parking! This is when I make the drive to Nimitz Beach.
There is always plenty of parking along the road, not as crowded as White Plains Beach, and always has a nice breeze to keep you cool. Also, I love the tide pools that they have there, as sometimes it can be a little too rocky to get in the ocean, so I’ll walk over to the tide pools to just sit and get cooled down.
Nearly perfect beach all around!

something good: now that i live in village park this is the beach that we frequent. i love that it’s not too crowded (even on fourth of july!) and it’s beautiful! i love that it’s not crazy packed like the beaches in town, it makes it perfect for my doggies :) !!
something not so good: it can be a little rocky but it’s not like that throughout the entire beach!
something to try: a day at the beach!

I love this place! Been here several times with my son since he was 14 months. Place is clean and it doesn’t have that fake-​gross residue like some town beaches have. It leaves that salty «real beach» feel. Down side is there’s no near by public shower or bathroom that’s within walking distance-you’d have to drive to Whiteplains next door. There’s a lil’ reef area that prevents the waves from breaking on shore, but it has a few pool areas which is ideal for the young ones. Also, there’s sometimes fishermen there but they fish past the reef.

Nice for the family or fishing (by the rocks). There are pavilions there for parties but you must rent these from the Navy MWR on Pearl Harbor (Active Duty, Retirees or DoD Employees only)
