Yay, Nene Goose is open! I was so excited to get some mochi an pan… my favorite. When I walked in, it was crowded! As I waited patiently, I noticed there was ONLY one left. Omg!!! I was hoping the people in front of me wouldn’t buy it. Well, one person bought the last ONE!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes. Standing in line for about ten minutes and someone buys the only thing that I wanted!
Luckily, I noticed a bunch of bagged day old pastries and other goodies on top of the counter. The sign read, «Special, one day old for 20% off.» I excitedly looked through the bags of goodies and I saw a bag of mochi an pan. There were six in the bag. Whew, I lucked out! Along with the an pan I bought a spinach onion roll. Both were amazing!
Spinach onion roll– so, yummy. The roll looked like an oversize muffin stuffed with a generous amount of spinach and a mayonnaise cream filling. The roll was tender, delicious and filled with specks of spinach. Looked yummy… tasted yummy.
Mochi an pan– yum… yum…yum! The best an pan that I ever tasted and stuffed with mochi– even better. The an pan was soft and tender with a beautiful color. Inside was filled with a delicious sweet bean paste with a generous amount of mochi. Ummmmm… it was GOOD. So, good that I ate two back to back. Then, I ate my husband’s share because he didn’t want his. Lucky for me… I scored!
Anyway, if you are in the mood for mochi an pan or spinach onion roll, head out to Nene Goose Bakery. You won’t be disappointed.

I love this place. The BEST malasadas on the island, in my opinion. Nice and fluffy, not greasy like most other places. Long johns and cream cheese pan are also favorites. Pretty much everything here! It’s so great to have small mom and pop bakeries like this in Kailua. The owner is the sweetest lady. I hope Nene Goose is around for a long time.

Here you’ll find the best spinach bread in the world. So fluffy and moist. Wish I lived next door to Nene bakery instead of in Kaneohe.

This place was so Ono. I ate 5 pastries in 3 minutes. The cinnamon coconut roll was amazing with tons of flavor and the softest texture ever. But the best thing was the Mochi an pan, but the fresh one and eat it ASAP to get the best experience. Was also cute to see da donuts for da Keiki shaped like animals. This is a real family business, you can tell they care. If you’re lucky to see the lady who runs it, you’ll be even happier. She is the sweetest person. 5+ stars MY OPU IS SMILIN’ cheeee

I can’t believe I haven’t been here before! A quick stop in early this morning and grabbed a variety of pastries and spinach bread. The bread here is wonderful! So soft and everything you’d want in a neighborhood bakery! We’ll definitely be back!

What a fantastic bakery! You can get everything there. The pastries are excellent. We are there for the butter rolls. Always good! Cheryl is always so sweet and pleasant no matter how busy she is, she always greets with a smile. My favorites are her butter rolls and mochi anpan. Whenever I go, they are always out of the mochi anpan.

Finally got to try this bakery today and so glad I made a second attempt to (the first time I came on a Tuesday and they were closed).
The lady behind the counter was the biggest sweetheart and gave us 20% off since we got there half an hour before closing time.
We tried the cream cheese roll, buttermilk donut, old fashion donut, and butter flake roll. HIGHLY RECOMMEND all. The donuts are not your typical texture, they’re light yet crispy/​crusty. Didn’t get a chance to take a picture bc we went downtown on these bad boys!
Will definitely be coming back to try the champignons everyone raves about (was told they are only served on the weekends).

This bakery is hard to find. If you don’t know where it is, read my review or better yet, call the business and the lady will direct you to their doorstep. That’s the only way I was able to find them. Don’t bother to use the map!
Know before you go:
1) Location: if you’re heading makai on Keolu Drive, turn left BEFORE Chevron/​Safeway.
2) Go early. I came on a Sunday morning at 10:15am and more than half of the display case was empty. They were sold out of most of their pastries.
3) The an pan and mochi an pan are delicious!
I hear their glazed donuts are to-​die-​for but I have yet to try them because I always come too late.

Come early if you want something scrumptious! If not, you may find that they have sold out of your favorites! This bakery is unlike any other! It is small & unassuming, but the culinary experience is divine! You may just feel like you have stepped into a shop off the Champ Élysées!

Nene Goose is a true gem of a bakery behind the Enchanted Lakes Safeway in Kailua.
Here’s what you need to know.
*The shokupan bread and butter rolls are must-​buys.
*Get there early! Things disappear fast.
*Bring cash, No credit cards.
*They are closed Tuesday & Wednesday. Get malassadas at Agnes’ instead.

Nene Goose Bakery is hidden in a little strip mall on Keolu drive. Don’t confuse yourself, it’s not in the little mall that Safeway, Mcdonalds and starbucks is in. Instead it’s in the mall with the little theater, on the other side of the gas station from the bigger mall. There is plenty of parking, and it’s a fast in and out for your pastry needs.
Nene Goose is a tiny little store front, and you haveeee to get here early if you want a bigger selection. They offer a wide range of sweet and savory pastries including little individually sized pizzas, fruit tarts and animal shaped buns.
The cashier is a small japanese woman. She’s so cute and friendly. I imagine her creating the little animal buns early in the morning. About that, you need to go early because many of the pastries will run out before 10am. The bakery items are a little expensive, but I think the quality is worth it. These are not your average Safeway doughnuts. Everything is so dainty and delicious looking. The animal buns are a great example; so much creativity goes into making the different animals.
Definitely stop by for a snack, or for breakfast. If you have a little kid, they will for sure love the cute animal pastries!

As other Unilocalers have noted, the Spinach Onion roll is to die for. I wish I’d bought two or the instead of only one! Luckily, I also bought a super cute chocolate filled pastry shaped like a pig so this little piggy did not go home hungry.
This little bakery is tucked away in Enchanted Lake, in the same shopping center as Water Gardens Theater.
Bring cash, no credit/​debit cards are accepted.

So so happy I found this hole in the wall bakery! Best on the island! Cash only, no seating available and they typically run out of things EARLY! On the weekends we’ve tried getting there before 8 and almost everything was gone all 3 times we went! The one time we got there at 7 we got the last animal shaped donut (so awesome for our 2 year old) and the last butter rolls, chocolate glazed donuts and malasadas. Everything was absolutely wonderful. Glad I don’t live in Kailua, I’d be here every day.

The pastries here really are delicious. From sweet to savory, there is something for everyone. My first bite of the glazed donut had me saying, «Maybe better than a warm Krispy Kreme.» (And coming from the east coast, I know me some Krispy Kremes.) There is a bit of grease heft on most of their pastries, but I will admit that it makes them even more tasty.
it is inconvenient that they are closed 12 – 1 since that’s when I want a pastry for lunch.

What a find! We were looking for a breakfast plate at the okazuya next store and went to the bakery first.
It is not a large bakery, but even early on a Saturday, people were trickling in. The nice lady behind the counter was patient with us as we decided what we wanted.
We tried the chocolate cream pan, champignon, donut holes, spinach and salmon bun, and butter flake roll. Believe it or not, the best item was the champignon and it was made with no oil or butter! It was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside.
We definitely didn’t get to try everything, so we will be back!

A very nice bakery!
I usually go first thing in the morning to buy my pastries, when they are freshly made and still warm from the oven!
The mochi an pan is delicious! I wish they would give more mochi and less red azuki bean, but that’s a personal preference!
The pastries in animal shapes with chocolate is my son’s favorite. We unfortunately had it one time with the chocolate chips unmelted…
The ham roll and portuguese sausage rolls are good, but the salmon roll was a little too fishy.

3.5 stars. Their Mochi An Pan is pretty darn good. Really soft bread, chewy mochi, delicious red bean filling. Not sure if I would visit regularly at $ 3 a pop, but definitely worth trying if you’re passing by.

They have the BEST an pan at Nene Goose. Why? Because of their cool twist in nestling a small mochi ball inside of the azuki bean filling. Of course, they are quite pricey at about $ 2+ each for something smaller than the size of a standard baked manapua, but if you don’t splurging, check them out!

(Darn it – why is it that these spell-​check things keep wanting to spell «mochi» as «mocha»?? I’m talking about MOCHI, yo! Will spell it m-​o-​c-​h-​a when I do my coffee shop review!)
Their mochi (thank you) an pan is the perfect snack to take over to grandma’s house when you stop in for a visit. Goes good with hot tea or coffee and good for their cholesterol!
The ONLY thing negative about the place is that:
1) You can barely hear the lady at the counter as she speaks in a whisper. I feel bad whenever I have to say, «what?» or «excuse me?» and find myself speaking softly, too. Figure if I talk loud, it might knock her backwards…
2) The same lady not only speaks softly, but she moves «softly». In other words — slow! OMG for real slow. Like you could order a 6-​count variety box of items, go next door to Blossom’s Okazu-​ya, look around, order a plate, pay, come back to Nene Goose, and she will just be at the point of carefully placing that last piece into your box. Inochitu!

Don’t let the small size fool you, this bakery has a good variety of great baked goods and bread. You can’t go wrong with any of their chocolate pastries, especially the basic chocolate doughnut. The chocolate Nene Goose uses is simply the best. The kids love the choco-​animals which run out quickly.

Nene Goose has savory and sweet pastry, sandwiches, pies and the best bread IMHO. Think Japanese-​French fusion.
It’s located off Keolu between Blossoms Okazuya and the Satellite City Hall (and the now defunct Keolu Theaters.) behind Safeway next to the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center.
Their breads are fantastic. They have french breads and sandwich breads. The spinach bread is great for sandwiches. If you don’t want a whole loaf they have half-​loaves.
My newest *discovery* is the malasadas. It’s totally different from Leonard’s and Agnes Baker. I was prepared not to like it (because Leonard’s has set the bar high). I was sooo wrong. It’s different, but it was really good; round shaped & a little sweeter.
The butter rolls and cinnamon roll are delicate and buttery! Yum!!!
They are known for their Mochi Anpan. The bun is filled with An (red bean Azuki paste) and mochi balls. I won’t go out of my way to buy anpan (I can take it or leave it), but I love mochi. It’s something different to take to offices, friends, etc.
The baker’s wife will let you know what’s going to be coming out of the oven. They’re really nice… great small and independent business!
oh yeah… Closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The parking lot is big (free too!!) and there’s usually never a problem finding parking… though sometimes on Sundays it’s crowded when people are attending church in the old Enchanted Lake theaters next to Safewy.
