Flavor of Hawaii Culinary Adventures

If you have 2.5 hours to spare you should try this!!! I did the tour on October 4 and it starts at 10:45am. It was totally worth it! This food tour includes 6 true gems in Kailua. The experience is so much fun and we walked for a little under a mile. Anyone can do it. It’s the perfect amount of walking through Kailua because it’s such a cute beach town. I think locals and tourists alike should try this tour. You experience a bunch of little bites from places you might not try!
I actually learned a lot. One cool little tid bit is that a chef starts out talking about the history of the flavors of Hawaii and you even get a back tour. There was also a history of Kailua, including Ka wai Nui Marsh, Ulupo Heiau, and Hamakua Marsh. Even growing up in Hawaii, I didn’t know all these things. You even hear a funny story about one of Captain Cook’s crew members climbing over the Ko’olaus to get to Kailua before the Pali was built. It was such a great story about his endeavors.
The Food on the tour:
–Haupia Glazed bread pudding
–fresh shoyu poke
–poke of the day (we had salmon poke but I heard about tofu shoyu tomato poke)
–chai tea shake
–pacific paradise smoothie with passion fruit, pineapple, bananas
–korean steak salad with kim chee ponzu sauce
–local fried rice (so ono)
–edamame
–malasadas from agnes (delivered fresh!!)
–shinsato pork taco with pineapple pico de gallo (this was my favorite and the pork is sourced locally! Very yummy)
It was a good amount of food and I was very happy with the diverse flavors we were able to try. The staff is really nice and I felt really comfortable with everyone in my group. It was a ton of fun and I can’t wait to take my family and more friends on the tour.
Some useful tips would be to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and comfortable shoes. It gets really really hot! Bring a swimsuit too and you can drive to Lanikai beach after and take a dip in the ocean and enjoy the rest of your day on the East Side.
Overall, I would definitely do this again. I can’t wait for this little company to expand!

What a great tour — a foodie’s dream tour! My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely recommend this to our friends. This tour lets you eat great food in a fun and delicious way! It’s an insider’s look at the can’t miss restaurants of Kailua that only the locals are lucky enough to know about. The highlight of the tour was meeting the chefs who were so passionate about using local ingredients in their dishes. Shinsato pork, poke, malasadas … what’s not to love!
This is a great taste of Kailua, bundled into a fun tour!
