I had a molar removed by Dr. Edgar, everything went well at the office, he made me feel comfortable and the procedure was done faster than I expected. Six days later I went back to the office in pain. Dr. Sue said I had a slight dry socket, he immediately started cleaning the socket and applied a numbing medication on a piece of cotton and stuffed it into the socket. He pushed down on my stitches while stuffing the cotton into the socket which caused the stitching to slice my gums. I was told to bite on the gauze for two hours. He was very quick and rough. He was rude and speaking to me in tone of such as if I was being punished. He said the cotton would come out on its own and to follow up with Dr. Edgar NEXT MONTH! I was confused and had many questions but he was off to the next patient. Two hours later, I remove the gauze and took a look at the affected area. I started freaking out and crying seeing my gums were now bleeding and sliced from the pressure of the stitches cutting through. I can’t believe he cut right through my gums and made the problem much worse! I immediately called an oral surgeon for a second opinion. I will NEVER go back to Hawaii Family Dental in Kahului.

As stated by another review from Gretchen M. I too have faced some accounting errors on their part. I went in to their office after calling and confirming my appointment today and was told that I am supposedly $ 701.00 behind on my orthodontic treatment. Funny thing is the accounts department failed to contact me and inform me that I was behind on my treatment. Ironically, I was just at their office to fix my wires that came loose the month before and paid my scheduled $ 200.00 treatment payment plan and wasn’t informed that I was past due on my account. I wasn’t given the option to pay partial payments but they needed to collect the full amount before they continued to see me. With that being said, please be cautious when going through Hawaii Family Dental, they have done similar things in the past and have fixed their errors. I am now going to take all my records and insurance over to Dr. Peter Conmy who has a better reputation and as my friends and family have said before that I should’ve just gone with him instead.

I am not a big fan of dentist in general because I had two bad experinces were thy tried to charge me for things I didnt need.
I visited Hawaii Family Dental because I could not keep waiting to get my tooth fixed.
I had the pleasure to get Dr. Sue who was the best! He repaired a borken filling and I was out the door with a smile. Thank you Dr. Sue for looking into ways on savings your paitients maney for unesesary treatments.

I stand corrected they do have a waiting room, I just always got the little one, but today I got the real waiting room and once again outstanding service by all the staff members I for one am never exited about going to the dentist but they always have a very calm way of welcoming in and easy me in to the transition of getting my dental work 100% meets my anxious self with they’re professional and calm ways I thank them for being so awesome !!!

My family has been going to Hawaii Family Dental Centers for the past 10 years. They genuinely took care of all our dental needs. They make sure that financial aspects are clearly explained and understand. You guys are awesome!

Dr. Heather Hearon is awesome! Ive never had a female dentist before, and she is proof that women are kinder and more gentle then male dentists. I always have a «pain-​free» experience.

When I decided to go for a different option on my dental plan about 8 years ago, I was a bit leery of choosing Hawaii Family Dental Center. From the first phone call I was sold! The wonderful receptionist answered all my questions and suggested a couple of dentists. I chose Dr. Kelly Kawahara — she is the best dentist I’ve ever had.
I also get a kick out of Sharon the hygienist — she’s thorough, chatty and we always have a good time.
Everyone is friendly and they make sure you have any questions answered, and explain every procedure thoroughly.
While the décor is very basic, that doesn’t bother me. It seems to me they spend their money on keeping up with the latest technology and being fully staffed.

Dr. Kawamura and the rest of the team always take good care of me and my teeth! Dr. Kawamura put in my crown. She went above and beyond to make sure I was aware of what she was doing and keeping me comfortable throughout the process. I recommend HI Family Dental Center to everyone! Plus they give you a gift card for recommending them to your friends and family!

Great dentists who genuinely care for you and your oral health. Very informative.
Only negative: Even though I showed up to my appointment 15 mins. early, I still had to wait for 30 mins. But that’s normal if the people who had an appointment came in late so it pushed everyone else’s appointments back.
Overall, I recommend Hawaii Family Dental Centers to those who also have Delta Dental. Great coverage!

I love Sharon my dental hygienist. She is gentle and very thorough! The office usually runs on time and I was in and out in an hour for my cleaning.

As previously being a Customer Service Manager, I can appreciate Summer’s friendliness and professionalism as a receptionist. She is wonderful! This part is just sheer honesty… the first dental cleaning I ever had here was done by a lady who must have just come from lunch and she had horrible breath and loved to talk. It was so bad that I could barely stand to sit through my cleaning, but I didn’t have the heart to tell her so I suffered through it. The second cleaning I had was great, although the young lady did not seem happy or personable, (I guess cleaning teeth must get boring after awhile). All the other staff have been SUPER nice and wonderful at their jobs.

Hawaii Family Dental Centers is by far the best dental place I have been too, the doctors and staff is a big help there and I am thankful that I have found a great dental place where I can just be comfortable and welcome. When I’m in need for an emergency they are willing to let me walk in without having an appointment just to checked what’s the situation. This place is a great place to go.

I have been going to this dental center for almost 5 years since I moved to Maui. It is the only place that is covered with my dental insurance so good thing I like them! I have Joann who cleans my teeth. She is very good and thorough. I see Dr. K once a year for an exam and she too is very thorough. The office is centrally located in Kahului on Lono ave. The receptionists are very pleasant. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is that the office is a little shabby-​carpet and paint needs updating.

This dental center is the only one I enjoy going to as the doctors and staff are friendly and nice. Due to the great attitudes of each staff member, you walk in feeling comfortable and not intimidated about going to a doctor’s appointment, considering how many do not like going to the dentist. The doctors there also make sure to accommodate your needs and take into consideration financial factors. This place is a great place to go to when you need to see the dentist.

We had an absolutely terrible experience with Hawaii Family Dental Kahalui and will be taking our family of 7 elsewhere. When trying to get a routine 6 month cleaning for 2 of my children, I noticed the bill had skyrocketed from $ 12 to $ 70 for each of my children. Apparently the Dr. wanted additional services including excessive X-​rays and refused to even see the children for their routine cleaning unless the non routine, out of pocket, and completely unnecessary services were rendered. All of the children get their teeth examined and cleaned on a regular basis. And upon talking with the front desk staff about my concerns, I was offered a very comforting and problem solving shoulder shrug. Because this dr refused to even allow my daughters teeth to be cleaned on her 6 month check up, my family of 7 will withdraw all of our records and take our business (and great insurance) to a business who actually cares to have it.
