Maui Dreams Come True

I have used the services of Misty Earnest at Maui Dreams Come True on 3 occasions with varied degrees of success.
The actual mechanics of the reservation for or ¹²⁄₁₆ to 12÷26÷15 trip to Papakea on Maui were handled quite well.
The Papakea condo, H301, was very nice again on this, our third stay in it. Upgraded bathroom and a flat screen tv in the bedroom were welcomed upgrades to the unit.
Papakea management has a Lot to learn about hosting visitors and guests!
Charging me $ 150.00 for the use of the place when the owner of H301 has already paid a monthly fee for the exact same usage is «Criminal» in nature and morals.
A different complex will be in our next plans to visit Maui.

We booked through Misty at Maui Dreams Come True for our first vacation in Maui. We booked unit B-​306 and I have to say it was a pleasure staying there. The unit was clean, and the sliding glass door had been opened and the ceiling fan turned on so it wasn’t hot or muggy inside when we arrive. :) The people at Aston resort were very kind and courteous too.
The unit came with dishes, glassware, utensils, pots and pans, towels, washrags, even a hair dryer! The living room, bedroom and dining room furniture were nice. The only thing I would have liked was a better grade mattress on the sofa bed. I felt the price was very reasonable for the one bedroom we had.
The grounds are well maintained and clean. What we liked was the barbecue’s by the pool. We watched them be cleaned everyday, along with the pool area. They really take care of the grounds there!
Misty was very nice and helpful through the whole process and we even had a beautiful ocean view to wake up to every morning!

From my initial email inquiring about a Maui condo to the next two phone calls to reserve our rental, Misty and Carly at Maui Dreams Come True we’re helpful and friendly. They got back to me promptly and handled all rental documents efficiently and professionally. At first, we were looking at a studio for our family of 4. Misty found a roomier 1-​bedroom for the same price. We really appreciate her effort to make our trip better! Mahalo to them both!

This was our first trip to Maui and we could not have asked for a better experience. We booked with Misty, she was quick to quote and email pictures of the unit we would be staying in and worked with me when a conflict in scheduling arose. Our unit was not newly updated but it was clean and comfortable and exactly what we were looking for. The location is great and the grounds are beautiful. We hope to book again this summer.

We were very disappointed in this service we received from Misty. She never responded to my very bad experience we had with our Unit. Was told my expectations were too high. Would not recommend Maui Dreams Come True. Not professional at all especially, Misty.

We rented from an owner, through Maui Dreams Come True, vs going through Papakea Resort. First of all after arriving at 2:30, we were told by the front desk that they were not allowed to let us check in any earlier than 3pm because Maui Dreams Come True gets mad, so we had to get their permission to do early check in. We called, and already knew that Misty would not answer, nor call us back, and that indeed was the case. So we went to the grocery store which is conveniently located across the street and came back an half an hour later, and got our room key.
We opened the door and was hit in the face with a horrible old smell. It was obvious that this unit had been not used anytime recent, as it was over 90 degrees inside, and definitely not clean smelling. The comforter on the bed was disgustingly stained, and reeked of old body odor. I removed it immediately and threw it in the closet. There was another comforter in the closet that stunk just as bad. No blanket on the bed, just mis-​matched sheets. I used an entire bottle of Fre-​breeze to try to get the smell out.
The bathroom was the worst I have ever been in. Dirty, and looks like someone either threw up on the wall behind the toilet or urinated and wasn’t cleaned off. The molding around the bathroom was also removed leaving exposed glue, chipped painted surfaces from where someone tore it off and never replaced it. Some funky light that looked like a retro 50’s style with extremely low light, most likely a candle light. Awful! The wood door and molding was obviously the original when the place was built, some 40 years ago, very warn and outdated.
The kitchen had new appliances, however notes left on the refrigerator said not to adjust the temperature or it would not work. We put our food in at 3pm and by 8pm (after calling Misty to say it wasn’t cooling off, she sent maintenance) it was registering over 50 degrees. Not safe food temps. She did tell me that food sitting in a hot car would cause the refrigerator to take longer to cool off. Seriously? I’m 54 years old, and have used a refrigerator for my whole life. I guess Hawaiian refrigerators have different working mechanisms than our main land ones.
Our AC unit located in the living room area was working full force but not cooling off the unit. I looked at the levers on the windows, and three to four of them were open so all the air was blowing outside, while the heat coming inside. I tried to close them, which did not work. I ended up fashioning the curtain over the open levers, and used my sneakers to hold the curtain closed so the AC would work.
At this point, we are beyond disappointed, and haven’t stopped sweating so we decided to go to the pool. Hummm… no pool towels.?? We grabbed the bath towels and headed to the pool. I get back and ask the front desk about the towels and was told that I had to contact the property manager, Misty. I contacted her, only to be told that they did not provide pool towels. Are you kidding me? It’s a condo, and you don’t offer pool towels? She suggested we go buy some.
Considering the pillows were most likely there since the place was built, and Fred Flintstone was calling asking for them back, we made our trip to Walmart on the other side of the island to purchase pillows and towels for our condo stay.
The décor is nothing like you see on the pictures that others have posted. Grandma’s apple plates, mis-​matched cups, bowls, and grandma’s corning ware (glass platter) made it challenging to use at the grill, as glass is not allowed in the pool area, and that it where the grills are located. I wrapped them in foil so that I would not be asked to leave. They did have red solo plastic cups as an alternative to the glasses. It went very well with the plastic dollar store flowers that someone attempted to make into arrangements that were not Hawaiian, but rather mid western if I had to guess. I guessed that who ever owned this unit brought all their left overs to this condo.
The lamp shades in the living room were ripped so when you turned the lights on it looked run down like the rest of the place, and one was missing from the lamp in the bedroom. I did mention this to Misty, and she said that someone must have forgotten to put it back on, as they replaced them with fresh, new ones. Really? Guess they over looked the ghetto shades in the living room. It was obvious that this unit had ZERO pride of ownership. This owner offers the bare minimum and hasn’t put any effort into even trying to give this place a fresh look, with a coat of paint, or Hawaiian experience.
Worst experience in my 15 years of traveling to various Condo’s in Hawaii, and I have photos for our Maui Nightmare Come True.

This company has always been so dedicated to their mission. They are helpful, informative, and motivated to make sure you are happy with your stay. I have called Misty in the middle of my stay and she always returns phone calls and is very attentive. We have sent other families to her as well as business partners. All have been overwhelmed with the entire experience. So many great comments as well for Misty’s vast knowledge of the island is so helpful! I was so astounded at the bad write from Kat G. I think she is taking out a lot of aggression out on a company that really tries to help. If she was that dissatisfied why didn’t she let them help her out? Next time you have a bad day Kat G. maybe check yourself first!

We booked through Maui Dreams Come True– Unit C-​208 at Papakea after Misty convinced us not to book another Aston property. Sadly, this was a disappointing property and we spent as much time as we could not coming back to the room as we could.
Unit C-​208:
1. It’s old. There are some renovations here and there but its definitely dated.
2. The bedroom gets unbearably hot at night despite our best efforts to keep it cool. You can’t turn the fan on high in the bedroom because it makes a large CLANKING noise because the unit wobbles so much at that speed.
3. You are reminded the whole stay that it is a PRIVILEGE for you to rent the unit from the owners from signs left everywhere. It is not welcoming at al as you feel like you’re staying at your parents beach house under strict rules, not to mention the guilt that comes with the electricity bill that is «600% more» than the mainland electric company. If you’re going to be so anal about the unit, why be renters? As a rental property owner myself, I can say this is a total turn off for your guests.
4. The bed is not very comfortable, and the night before we left we figured out why– the box springs are sitting on top of boxes of flooring tile. No joke, it’s hidden well with a bed skirt but upon looking for missing items that’s what we found underneath the bed. Unreal.
5. Shower door doesn’t latch so water gets all over the floor. So you have to hold the door closed while you shower. And it’s tiny, only 1 person can fit into the shower at a time.
6. The kitchen reeked of something rotting and we couldn’t figure out why. There’s a sign above the sink that tells you what to do it clogs so I’m guessing it’s the plumbing? Gross.
7. The wall mirrors in every room and on every closet door are so odd. You’re constantly seeing yourself no matter what room you go into. Very dated feature (think 70’s).
8. No instructions left on how to use to prehistoric AC unit (has remote) or the cable/​TV. Not a big deal since we weren’t there most of the time.
9. Just found out they plan on doing $ 20K in upgrades some time in the future. If you’re adamant about staying here make sure it’s post-​upgrade.
For Maui Dreams:
1. It takes Misty a long time to return calls/​emails, and even then she doesn’t respond without consistent follow up on your part. This blows my mind considering this is what she does for a living. The whole reason we booked a different property at first is because she took a week to respond to our inquiry on Papakea.
2. Communication being a major issue, we were never told that there was a $ 50 deposit (for incidentals, to which I have no idea what those would be since we didn’t rent from Aston) when you check in at the front desk. We had to pay for the entire stay upfront 90 days before we arrived at not once was this additional fee mentioned.
3. I emailed both Misty and the owner of the unit Jim about the rude pig at C-​207 who kept looking over onto our lanai and asked them to address it. Never heard back from either of them. I guess we don’t deserve our privacy? You ask for «kokua» and yet you don’t give it yourselves.
4. They do not update their website on the units at all. The only reason I was able to find pics of C-​208 when she offered it was a google search that turned up disappointing results. When I addressed this, Misty was very laissez faire about it and said she would mention it to their owners. Is it not your job to provide info on these rentals if you in fact, collect the money for them?
5. The owner, Jim Troughton, is psychotic. He went on an email tirade against me after my posts on Unilocal and trip advisor trying to guilt me over his ailing mother in law and the victims of oklahoma as being ungrateful and demoralized. No joke.
IN CONCLUSION…
Your money is better spent somewhere else. While the pricing may be attractive to some, it’s honestly like staying at a Motel 6 in paradise. This place is DEFINITELY NOT for honeymooners.
There are many other options on West Maui shoreline from Kapalua, Napili, Kahana, Kaanapali, and Lahaina so do your research. We couldn’t believe while walking down the shore how many there were and failed to miss them during our search. We knew we wanted to avoid the typical resorts like Hyatt, Sheraton, etc. but would have loved to have found a nicer condo resort than Papakea.
Bottom line is that Misty does not care about you after the money is collected. She will make EVERY excuse and take zero accountability for any issues or concerns you have. Why would you want to do business with that? And Jim Troughton can’t handle anything anyone says about his units at Papakea and he WILL verbally attack you for doing it online. Completely delusional.

We have been staying at the Papakea Oceanfront Resort and booking with Maui Dreams Come True for over ten years. Papakea is a beautiful spot, centrally located to all the major attractions, fine restaurants, great golf courses and pristine beaches. We always book our accommodation with Maui Dreams Come True because they are very knowledgeable about the property and area, and are always most pleasant, reliable, attentive to our needs and provide an excellent rate for a premium establishment. We shall continue to stay at Papakea for our Maui vacations and make our arrangements with Maui Dreams Come True. An excellent choice on Maui.

I would not rent thru this company… they claim in their add to only rent units they check out. Our unit was awful. Overpriced and very run down. Actually dirt and mold in the unit. In an extreme need of updating. Misty was not the least bit professional when I called her while we were there to discuss the matter. Even after sending pictures of the problems she tried to discount them as me being overly picky. Was the only bad point in our visit to Maui for our son’s wedding.

I tried to book through these guys when I was looking for a rental for my family during our trip to Maui and my normal rental was filled. Not only did they quote me the wrong price and not tell me until after they took my deposit, but then they tried to tell me that the new, substantially increased price, was NO BIG DEAL?! Are you kidding me?! Now I have to find somewhere else to stay in a hurry! I dont think anyone SHOULD EVER book through these guys. They overcharge, lie and apparently (by their own admission) cannot competently do any mathematics. STAY AWAY!!! You are better off going through another owner.
