Big Rock Resort

Very clean cabin with beautiful grounds. So close to June Mountain. Had a great time in Cabin 1. Friendly owners. Cabin 1 had 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Heaters in all rooms. One flat screen tv with lots of channels in family area. We cooked two meals here and went out to dinner in Mammoth once, which is only about 25 min away. No dishwasher so bring paper plates if you don’t feel like hand washing. Electric stovetop was a little tricky –had to continuously adjust temps while cooking. Also, no condiments in cabin from remaining guests so remember to bring everything you need for food. Instant hot water in showers! And, free wifi! Can’t wait to come back again in spring or summer and go hiking and fishing!

We spent my birthday weekend (early May) here and it was idyllic! We did 3 nights in little cabin #3 by the lake, which came with our very own fishing boat! The cabin was very clean and comfortable, with our own private deck and bbq. We took our baby, a rambunctious 95lb lab mix, and he was treated like part of the family by all. We were a tad disappointed in the fishing (apparently everyone was having a rough go of it recently), but that didn’t keep us off the water. We had so much fun with our boat, and relaxing in our room, that we didn’t even get to check out any of the many nearby hikes. We did walk to «town» a couple times, which was nearby and absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get away for a bit, unplug and get some fresh air. We are already looking forward to another trip soon!

I recently read a great review for a dining establishment in June Lake where the reviewer reminded the reading audience to have perspective. I am writing this review for a lovely lakeside cabin resort in June Lake, East side of the Sierras, removed from all the chaos — also removed from some of the amenities — of my daily life back home. Perspective.
Spent Memorial Day weekend at Big Rock for our 1^st wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived Mike, Laurie, and Pedro made us feel welcome, answered our endless fishing questions, and provided us with last minute supplies we forgot!
The cabins are quaint and on the small side, but had all that we needed. The cabins are duplex style, with a shared stairway at the front. We never heard our neighbors, but I imagine you might hear a more rowdy group next door. Underneath the deceiving rustic quilt was the most pristine, warm, and comfortable bed! On par with any fancy hotel.
We both cooked meals in the cabin, and went out to eat. Beyond garbage bags there are no other misc disposable supplies, which helped us keep our waste to a minimum. There is a small shop on-​site where we bought items such as tackle, foil, freezer bags for our trout, beer, ice, etc. Our favorite part of each day was about 5 – 6 PM. After long day of fishing, we were freshly showered, and enjoyed wine and cheese on the deck overlooking the lake watching the sun set behind snow capped mountains. Epic.
We plan to come back to Big Rock Resort every year. We had such a fabulous time!

Big Rock Resort met or exceeded our expectations for a fishing cabin in close proximity to the lake. We stayed in Cabin 6 with our dog. Yes, the furnishings are a bit dated, but the whole cabin was SUPER SQUEAKY CLEAN! Extra points for the abundance of excellent quality bath towels and the excellent quality of new dishes and glasses. The bathroom was wonderful, freshly remodeled with a nice tiled shower stall and plenty of hot water. The queen bed was very comfortable — we slept like babies — and the bedding was excellent, clean, hotel quality. The owners were very nice and informative. The town is a very short walk with numerous restaurants and a grocery store. Note: most of the restaurants don’t have outdoor seating for those with dogs. We ordered food and took back to the cabin. We’ll definitely return!

My family and I stay here every year in late June and could not say anything better about it. Mike and Laurie always do their best to accommodate every one of our needs. The cabin is always in fantastic condition, the towel service is great, and our fishing boat always works perfectly and is clean as well.
Some family stayed for dinner a couple of nights and fell in love with the place and are talking about making reservations for next year already. If you’re looking to get some fishing in or just some nice relaxation on your vacation I would DEFINITELY recommend making Big Rock your place to stay.
The cabins are linked together so you do have neighbors, but in our years of coming up we have always had pleasant experiences with our neighbors. It also makes it very convenient if you’re lucky enough to share the two cabins with some family members or friends.

We stayed in cabin 5 and paid $ 235 a night. They don’t show pictures on there website he cabins as you share a stair case among other things. There is also no «site» map provided on their site as most of the cabins don’t have a view of the lake. I should have taken my first clue when the owner had a very rude attitude over the phone when I selected cabin 5 as the 2 view cabins were full, so I didn’t want a cabin that was a pet friendly cabin (we left ours at home). When we arrived, there were crumbs all over the couch and floor, after asking they cleaned it. The refrigerator was not cold or even getting cold enough to prevent food spoilage. The owner provided us some bags of ice to keep our food in our ice chest. Later that 1^st night my husband pulled out the refrigerator and found that it was plugged into an extension cord that was shared with the microwave. After plugging the refrigerator directly into the wall it worked, the microwave didn’t. Although they had an ice machine, there was a charge for ice, again we paid $ 235 a night. The unit next to us was «hot bedding», they had relatives in a nearby campground that would appear to shower and stay over night, which caused us to run out of hot water, when my daughter tried to take a shower, the owner told me to boil water on the stove, informing me that we shared a hot water heater with the neighboring unit, along with a common wall. The kids next door were loud and you could clearly hear them through the walls. I had to ask for hand soap, toilet paper, towels, etc and that’s if they answered the phone. You place your used towels into a trash bag on the porch and they return them in that same bag later the same day, no housekeeping provided. It was cold and windy the four nights we were there (June) so we ended up in the cabin a lot longer than anticipated, which was unfortunate as the TV was an old 19 inch located across the living room and kitchen which made it difficult to see, so even though we had brought movies just in case, we were unable to view them. The WI-​FI was marginal. These cabin are not worth more than $ 85 a night. We will never return.

Found them to be most inflexible about arrival dates when they had suitable openings. I will book my stay elsewhere and remember their attitude for future needs.

The cabins at this resort are clean and nice. The fact they come with a boat is REALLY nice and convenient, and the folks who manage it are very nice. Definitely a good place to stay. Probably my current favorite on the loop.

This place is a great place to come rent a boat while staying in June Lake. This is a small little business with great customer service. The owner Mike is very friendly and always treats his customers the right way. We rented a boat for 5 days while we were out on the lake fishing. Big Rock Resort was very helpful with helping us get out on the water at whatever time we were looking at going.

Wonderful Experience! Nestled in eastern Sierras, June Lake is gorgeous all times of the year.
My girlfriend and myself rented one of their 2-​person cabins (we really wanted to have a fireplace).
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful while allowing us our privacy (there is also a very nice St. Bernard living there). The cabin itself had a very comfy bed with plenty of blankets (it was cooooold outside!), and fully equipped with all the necessary household appliances we needed to prepare our own meals every day (although there was a can-​opener in the house, it hardly worked which was frustrating for us, but otherwise everything else worked fine). There was also a gas heater in the house which kept it warm (although it would make a loud BANG! every now and then and startled me a few times). The showers are good too, plenty of hot water and adequate pressure.
The cabins are situated pretty much right on June Lake, and beautiful views from every direction.
We were just using the cabin as a get-​away from the city and it did the job very well. Big Rock resort seems to cater more towards summer activities and fishing, as well as a good place to shack up if you plan on skiing/​snowboarding in the area.

My husband’s family and I rented a cabin here for 3 nights while we were visiting June Mountain for skiing and such. The cabins are decent enough, though the heater was broken in the bathroom (and had been for several years it appeared) which made for some chilly showers since we were there in the dead of winter. The kitchen left much to be desired, but you don’t exactly stay in a cabin in the mountains in order to enjoy cooking gourmet meals for yourself every night.
There was a cute furnace in the living room which heated the entire cabin. It actually got quite toasty at night, and I was sleeping in one of the back bedrooms. The staff shoveled snow off our porch and stairs so that we didn’t have to do it ourselves, which was greatly appreciated. We also brought a dog, and were pleased to find that they do have pet-​friendly cabins available.
The resort is located right next to June Lake, which is quite picturesque and buried in between the surrounding mountains. It’s also just down the street from the June Mountain ski resort, which was awesome and much less crowded than Mammoth which is a few miles further. The town of June Lake has several cafes, restaurants, and bars which are quite cozy and fun, making this resort a nice location at which to stay for your mountainous adventures!

An enjoyable resort! Stopped in here on July 8, 2010 for a day of fishing w/​the GF. They set-​us up with a sweet lil’ motorboat and some recommendations for successful fishing. At the end of the day, I had caught «the» elusive trout I had guaranteed myself, had flooded the engine, gotten sunburned, and was chased by «willie the luck duck». I must mention — the staff actually came out to re-​start the engine with smiles, and as I explained my blunders, we all had a good laugh. I’ll be back!

There is little to complain about my two night stay at Big Rock Resort. The location is great (a short drive to June Mountain Ski Resort), the lake surrounding the resort is beautiful, the cabin we stayed in (#5) was clean, quaint and fully equipped for the meals we prepared. We called ahead and informed the owner that we would be arriving around 1−2AM. The owner went ahead and turned the heat on for us and left the door unlucked and keys on the table for our late night arrival. I thought that was really considerate.
Our cabin shared a wall with Cabin #4 which was occupied by a group of very rowdy and loud guys. I was woken up at 3AM when they came back to their cabin and proceeded to scream, shout, wrestle and fight. The walls are EXTREMELY thin so I heard everything. Luckily, my neighbors also heard when I banged the wall so that they would shut up. When everyone settled down, I could hear my neighbor breathing and snoring in his sleep (that’s how thin the walls are).
All in all, a beautiful and affordable getaway. I would definitely stay here again but I would probably sleep in the room far away from the neighboring cabin or sleep in the living room next to the heater.
