The Warm Hearth

SPOILERS (might be fun to find these things out yourself)
It’s just awesome, plain and simple. This is hands down my favorite shop in Julian. It’s so big inside, and if you think you’ve seen it all, keep going back and it’s like walking through the Wardrobe of Narnia; there’s a whole other world back there (looking at the front of the Warm Hearth, you’d never expect it and are like, «what the heck?»)! When I first went here my mouth dropped at the awing experience of the hidden room and treasures. Things are a bit on the expensive side, but hey, your in Julian so it’s something that should be expected. I’ve taken family and friends here, and they’ve all been just as enchanted with it as I was. And oh, they have a tiny quilting shop up the stairs, in the left corner of the main building (not a big selection, but cute!).

This is the place you where want to spend some serious time, when you visit Julian. The amount and quality of merchandise in the Warm Hearth is mind-​boggling. I can say without exaggeration that this store has a gift in it for everybody and anybody.
Others have described the labyrinthine interior, with alcoves, nooks, crannies, and attics. I will describe one small area of interest: The Western-​style leather clothing next to the checkout registers. What a nice assortment of leather and suede jackets and vests, even a leather sportcoat. The prices seemed quite reasonable, and the styles were American West genre, of course.
I had several interactions with the staff, and found them to be genuinely friendly and helpful.
Don’t let the smallish storefront fool you. This place is massive, and it is extraordinarily well stocked. Spend some time here, you won’t regret it.

I absolutely love this store, it is every girls dream for those who like decorating and nifty things! or even for men too lol
The only complaint i have is that i found a particular item in the store awhile ago that wasnt the exact size i wanted, the woman who worked there told me to look on the online website to find that item and order it. I went on the online website and there are barely and items at ALL listed on the page, this makes it difficult for returning customers to find what they want and gives them no choice but to visit the store on multiple occasions until they get another shipment of that exact item in again.

Very cool big store. They have different things. Their prices are responsible. Good customer service. Only street parking.

Perfect place to stop in and find odds and ends that make really great gifts. The front of the shop is more of the themed home goods, while the back downstairs shop has vintage style furniture, locks and every other sort of item you have no practical use for, but absolutely must have. The staff are friendly and their goods assortment means something for everyone. A great place to stop and look even if you «aren’t shopping.»

Such rude workers here. Was being followed the whole time while browsing the lower level of the store. Then to make it all even better, the old bitter woman that was following me rudely told me to stop touching stuff because its not for sale, and to move away from that section of the store because she needs to work… there were no signs saying the section was off limits, it was an open section that other people were walking through. I ended up putting the stuff that I was going to buy down and leaving the store. I REFUSE to spend money at a store with rude customer service… especially when small towns like Julian are supposed to show kind hospitality.

We enjoyed the variatioins of fruit butter and jams there. They had alot of other stuff as well. The soaps were nice too.

Huge space with lots of neat things. Definitely a SUPER GIFTY type store. You can spend a long time in here just browsing and I just love that!

We ventured in this shop on our first day of our 3 day weekend. Place was really cute and had a large array of items. Everything from Trinkts to soaps, to expensive kitchen fictures. We bought a few cute things and some gourmet snacks. We even came back at the end of our weekend to buy our gifts for people, the whole store was 25% off but the Christmas stuff was 50% off. There was a big sign on this shelf that said «all Christmas 50% off» on the same shelf there was a red cake plate that I thought was stunning. The price tag was 199.00 and at 50% off it would be 100.00 wich was still a bit high for me but it had been a long time since I treated myslef to something nice. When we got it to the register it didnt ring up at 50% We told the cashier (young skinny guy) that it was 50% off he gave us this look like we were trying to pull a fast one over on him. He says «only Christmas stuff is 50% off, just because its red doesnt mean its on sale» It was actually on the rack that said 50% off. Wasnt like it just got picked up and placed there by accident, its a huge glass display plate. Not a big deal if it was mislabled etc but the way he acted towards us was uncalled for. Made us really uncomfortable.

I love this store. It may be my favorite part of Julian, even more than the pie! Like others have said it looks small on the outside, but it keeps going and going. I love all their stuff. I always leave with a few christmas decorations that you could obviously never find anywhere else. They have the best antiques and knick knacks.

This is a cool store my husband told me about while we were vacationing in Julian. I was staying in the cottage we rented and he told me to come down and check it out. The store looks so small on the outside but it just keeps going.
Multiple floors, filled with household and cute items everywhere. Then you walk farther down and end up in a big warehouse with even more stuff. Lots of home made stuff too which makes it even more nice.
It was nice to enjoy checking this out. If I had more money on me, I would have bought numerous items! Check it out.

While walking Julian over our two day vacation in the city I stumbled across this gem of a store right in the heart of the Julian Historic District next to Mom’s Pie House. Upon walking into the store you are quite awestruck by the sheer amount of items this place offers. As I walked in the door I was hit first by a section consisting of various candles and various household accents as well as a large shelf filled from top to bottom with homemade apple butter, salad dressings and various jams made from the orchards around the city. After looking at this section I was immediately drawn to the apple butter and vidalia onion and peppercorn dressing both of which I purchased.
As you leave this section of the store you are surprised to see another alcove in the back chock full of kitchen and dining room gadgets, towels, placemats and much more. Around the corner and down a flight of stairs leads you into the back of what looks to be a large warehouse filled with handmade wood signs, furniture and other larger accents of the wood variety along with another small alcove featuring indian jewelry and statues. Another section upstairs consists entirely of handmade quilts and fabrics, another is filled with statues from Disney as well as other popular characters. This place truly has something for everyone and just seemed to keep going and going.
Due be forewarned that if you pay with a credit card there is a $ 10 minimum. I saw this sign posted at the register but not throughout the store although I could have overlooked it. As a whole this was my favorite store in Julian that I went to due to the sheer volume of items and the variety with which they consist of. Check this place out but be wary that you will more than likely drop some cash in here. The staff I experienced was very friendly, they greeted you as you walked in and helpful with any questions you may have. I definitely look forward to my next visit here.

I love this store! If I could, I would buy everything inside of it. They have the nicest items in there. Every time I go up to Julian, I always spend most of my time at The Warm Hearth.

They have all kinds of different knick knacks, antique like knick knacks, jewelry, jim shore collectibles, etc etc. Yes, some of their stuff is kinda pricey but you’re in Julian. It’s going to be pricey no matter where you go and what you get. Customer service is great and friendly. Never had an issue with anyone here. My fave place in Julian and will keep coming back!

I was a little concerned because of all the bad reviews for this place, but I think they’re outdated. I went in to the Warm Hearth and the employees were incredibly kind, offering me advice on where to go in Julian, what hikes to take and where to get the best pie (next door).
The new manager (the old manager’s son) is really trying to update the place. Its definitely a store for knick knacks and various oddities of Julian, but its got charm and everything you might never think to want.

The worst experience i went to buy tin signs and they had a deal if you bought three you would get them for 10 each plus in the store for the holidays the had 25% off. When we went to check out they charged us 12.99 each and 25% off no mention on there sign that all discount didn’t work together… never going to this place again

The Warm Hearth is a place to buy knick knacks, trinkets and antiques. I went to Julian two years ago and they store seemed much better (cleaner, more selections) then.
They really isn’t a whole lot to do in Julian so if you like to browse the stores this will be included in your stop.

Horrible Horrible shopping experience. The stuff was not helpful at all. And, one of the ladies was so rude and was giving me attitude. I thought that she would kill me with her negative attitude.
Horrible! You go to such nice city having good mood and full of excitement and everything can be ruined by some sales person.

I swear this is slice of apple pie for folks that like to collect knick knacks, trinkets and antiques. Definitely heaven for you hoarders out there. There’s even a rummage sale section that had old skool cast iron stoves. I had to convince my mom that she didn’t need any more stuff and that the items in the store didn’t match her current décor.
The place is huge, with multiple levels. Be sure to check ‘em all out. I hang out here, when I don’t want to wander up and down the street with my friends and family.
Definitely not my kinda store, except I was looking to get my mom a souvenir — a shot glass to add to her collection. Sadly enough, I didn’t see a shot glass in sight!

In a town that depends solely on people coming to visit, you’d better cut the attitude and start ENJOYING the tourists, before they stop visiting!
