High Desert Motel

I’m giving this place a 5 star not because it is a 5 star establishment, bt for what it was (a dinky motel in the middle of the desert), I was impressed.
For the price I paid, I fully expected to bust out my lysol and alcohol wipes. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and accommodating. I asked to stay an additional night and they were able to accommodate my request and moved me to a different room, equally clean and comfortable.
I would for sure stay here again and recommend it to anybody heading to the park.

High Desert Motel was a great place for me to stay before heading on my adventure through Joshua Tree National Park. It’s a simple and clean motel situated right in the heart of the town of Joshua Tree. I found the whole area in general to be really calm and pleasant. It sort of help set the tone for Joshua Tree… being at the entrance to the heart of the desert!
Prices here were very reasonable. I had a good nights rest and felt refreshed the next morning. Before leaving town, I quickly stopped at a local supermarket to grab plenty of water and food for my journey as there’s none whatsoever inside the park.
For anyone venturing out to Joshua Tree NP, I’d certainly recommend the High Desert Motel.

Very conviniently located — few minutes from main Joshua Tree National Park entrance. Had an a/​c, fridge, coffee and free WiFi. Probably the best price in the area.

Stayed 4 nights and was pleased with the value and proximity to the entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park. The room had a refrigerator and a microwave, desk, king size bed, day bed, free WIFI and parking. Also, I forgot my keys and the owner /​manager called me and sent them in the mail. I was pleased with their service.

Very sufficient accommodations. Moderate price, clean, not fancy but a good place to rest at the end of the day. Plenty of water pressure. Could have used extra towels but didn’t bother to ask. My bad, not theirs.
Owners/​managers were very accommodating when I revised my earlier room order to lower floor. Be aware, this is a two story motel.
Good food within a mile of motel. You even get coupons for local restaurants. We used the 15% off at the Joshua Tree Saloon for dinner and forgot to do so for coffee in the morning from the Sisters Café. Decent coffee but I have become a coffee snob and to the Starbucks consumer it is probably outstanding. Locally roasted but brewed and stored in an airpot, not a pour over, individually dripped.
All in all, with their location at the west entrance to the park and the amenities in town, this was the perfect choice for us to call base while exploring Joshua Tree.

Good, simple and cheap. The room we had was a bit dark, but immaculately clean. Bed was very comfortable. Close to the Park Entrance. The manager was very kind and after I came down with a cold allowed us to leave a bit sooner than we had planned, no problem. I appreciate that but he warned me that if you book with Expedia or other service he might have had to charge us for one of the days we left early. If you are hiking or climbing in the park you would probably find this a wonderful place to end up at the end of the day.

Water didn’t turn on in the shower. Overhead lighting was straight from a horror movie. This place is a disaster. Don’t go. The receptionist was condescending, from behind his bulletproof, shady glass window. Didn’t greet us, gently shoved paper our way to sign. The place smelled like a cheap car air freshener. The soap burned your hands. The WiFi wasn’t secure, which means could be easily tapped by owner, other guests. Whole «desert nonchalance» translating here as «there isn’t anything we care about in the universe, including this business.» Not interesting, not clean — sticky and slimy on the door handles. Better off sleeping in a tent on the hard ground or in your cold car. That’s what I’ll do next time.

Simple, convenient and clean at a great rate. Stayed 1 night and felt very safe. There is a flat screen tv, fridge and microwave. Plenty of space and well maintained. Only annoyance would be highway noise but that’s unavoidable. Have a good time and support local independent businesses. Ps discount for Veterans.

At $ 49 a night on a Friday it’s an incredible deal. Other motels we called charged well over a hundred (!) and were much farther out.
Some traffic noise from the highway, but you get used to it. Clean and convenient to the national park and 2 mins away from good coffee and good food. You also get discount coupons for local businesses.

Simple, classic, clean. Everything was just right. Great value, very conveniently located close to Joshua Tree Park entrance. Excellent coffee shop just down the road, highly recommend! Natural Sisters Café

While this place may look like somewhere you might get killed, it was a great nights sleep. The room was clean and had a refrigerator and microwave. The wifi was faster than most chain hotels, and it was very conveniently located near the park. The shower had some quirks, but overall it did the job of shelter for a night without much hassle and frustration. For the price, you’re probably not going to find anything, let alone anything better.

I don’t think you can really get a better hotel, especially for the price you pay. The first thing I noticed was the room was spacious and that it was well lit with natural light coming from the windows. It was furnished pretty well with a refrigerator and microwave and coffee maker. Plus it had a couch, table, chairs, desk, and couch. I also left behind my kindle after checking out and they made sure to call and let me know, which inspired me to write this. Even if I hadn’t left it behind though, I would still give it 5 stars because I really really liked it for the reasons listed above, plus other intangible ambience type stuff that I just sound like a loon probably when trying to describe. It’s a really cool place though and definitely worth checking out.

I’m giving this 4 stars because I’m a fan of quirky, privately-​owned hotels. Décor was okay, and facilities marginal, but there was free wifi and we didn’t have any problems with bedbugs like other reviewers mentioned. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick, cheap place to stay on their way to Joshua Tree.

Very nice motel and in the category of small independent motels, one of the best I’ve stayed at. Great owner who keeps the place up nicely. Everything was quite clean.
Fairly quiet except for traffic on the highway, but that’s not bothersome.
They have a washer & dryer — $ 2 each. Dryer runs long enough to get a full load dry.
Small TV but who cares?
Cheap door lock which is not very secure. This would be the one item I wish they’d upgrade.
Refrigerator and microwave in the room. Fridge doesn’t hold much due to poor design that incorporates a 12 oz can rack in the door. But if you’re not staying long, it’s probably big enough.
Free wi-​fi in the room and although it’s not the quickest you’ll encounter, it got the job done.
Convenient to Joshua Tree National Park and the few good restaurants in town. Half block from Sam’s Market and Sam’s Pizza & Indian (one of the good restaurants). The larger town of Yucca Valley is just a few minutes the other direction.

Very clean, great value and excellent location for Joshua tree park. Management was nice and efficient, rooms were comfortable and nice for the price. I’d definitely stay here again!

The experience here has been truly an oasis of respite in the intensity of the desert. I’ve been out in J Tree for a month, mainly sleeping outside, or car camping, but on those occasional days/​nights where I’ve needed a cool quiet room to submerge myself in, VJ’s High Desert Motel has been my place of choice. VJ, Larry and the cleaning staff are all very welcoming and kind. The rooms (my favorite is 220: small, efficient, cut away from the rest, faces the desert and the sunset, and I’ve slept very peacefully) are very comfortable and clean, each room has a swamp cool/​air conditioner, comfortable/​clean bedding, and desk spaces if you need to get work done. Also a tv if you want to zone out for a bit, clean towels, baths/​showers (the large rooms have a couch, large floor space, and both a bath&shower, and face east, room 220 has a shower, but I personally like smaller better; for what I personally need anyhow), thick curtains for blocking out the sun and getting a nice amount of darkness/​coolness.
Each room has a fridge, coffee maker, phone, clothing rack, soap, towels.
I am going to stay another 3 nights as a treat to self as I continue to situate my body in this desert. VJ is so kind and helpful, and if I decide I need to leave early he is very open and clear about returning my money without headaches.
Check in and check out is important to respect, and VJ is a kind and upbeat person who is very open to making everyone who comes here a happy camper.
Oh, and there’s the MOST refreshing pool here.

This place was so gross I went to Walmart to buy bedsheets and a foam mattress for the bed because it was so hard. I was staying here because the film company put us up here, two employees got bed bug bites! The bed begs were so bad they had to move twice! When we told the manager about the bed bugs, he said if a bed bug bite you there should be blood on the sheets. He said the maid find no blood!
But their bites were proof enough. The carpet was so dirty and old that I had to always wear my shoes. But the fridge was nice and the microwave was great. The bed bugs were the worst part about the hotel! The pillows were like sleeping on cardboard!
But you get what you pay for!

I agree to the Microwave. Refrigerator and Cleanliness. I stayed in the Motel for 5days because of work. I thought the Itchiness was due to DrySkin. But after my Work Assignment and got Home. I saw the enormous Bugbites on my back side and extrimities as well. I do not know whats in that room 10?. The owner is very pleasant and nice but definitely i am not going back to the place.

I had a brief one-​night stay here recently. The room and bathroom were clean and there was a mini-​fridge in the room, which I appreciated. There is a liquor/​convenience store and an Indian restaurant next door. I wasn’t expecting luxury, so I was content with the room, but discovered what others have said on
— the bed was hard as a rock. I fell asleep fine, but woke up several times because my shoulder was aching from the hard bed.
Besides that, the location, cleanliness, and price were just right for my needs.

This place was decent for a one night stay. I was slightly creeped out by the fact that my windows were open when I first walked in, but, I’m assuming that has to do with the heat.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you want to be close to Joshua Tree National Park.
