History

Established in 2011.

Cliffhanger Guides is a culmination of the work and life experiences of Seth Zaharias and Sabra Purdy. At Cliffhanger Guides we believe that anybody can rock climb. We play with kids age 6 – 100, all shapes, sizes, and ability levels. We are dedicated to expanding people’s horizons and bringing them closer to the natural world. Rock climbing is a great medium for discovering the outdoors, staying fit, and building life-long friendships. Rock Climbing is exciting, rewarding, and highly adventurous, all attributes we believe contribute to happy, satisfied people.

My Name is Seth Heydon Zaharias. I’m in my mid 30s. I have roots in the Foot hills of California, the eastern Sierra, NW Montana, Joshua Tree and eastern Tennessee. I’m lucky enough to own a humble home in North Joshua Tree. I live there seasonally (Oct. to April) with my amazing soon-to-be wife, partner, and best friend, Sabra Purdy. My interest in the mountains started quite some time ago. I was first introduced to rock climbing in 1990 via a small guided youth group experience. I loved it! The adventure, the chess game, the physical workout, the community, almost immediately I was hooked.

By 21, I knew that I wanted to work in the field of outdoor education. Over the years I have worked for many different schools, programs and guide services. 14 years later I have approximately 1600 guide days. That translates to 5 straight years working with people on the rock. I have worked from Joshua tree to the Eastern Sierras to Devils tower to Spain to Montana.
