Jadwiga, call her Jadzia (pronounced Yadja) was born in Nieder-Weisel Germany near Butzbach in Hessen. Her parents moved back to Legnica Poland near Wroclaw (formerly Breslau) in Silesia (Schlesien) She invaded the United States with her love of life dance and good food. Jadja brought with her a strong work ethic, worked as caretaker for seniors and children and later worked for for a clothing maker in their factory for many years. When presented with the opportunity she lept at the chance to work tirelessly but even harder. She opened SAVA Polish Deli and Meat Market in 1989, producing what is now Jersey City’s only hot Polish food menu. Previously next door was another Polish eatery named Tanya’s. Tanya’s store front is now occupied by Village Wines and Liquors, from where you can BYOB to SAVA Polish Diner Deli & Meat Market. Village wines and Liquors carries imported Polish beers & vodkas and international wine selections.
