It’s an unassuming husband & wife deli/convenience corner store. But what puts this place in the Unilocal map is their RAMEN. Is it as good as an actual Ramen shop in Korea Town or Lil Tokyo? C’mon, it’s a friggin corner deli in JC. But it’s good. And it’s real. It’s not fancy, hip or fusion that you find in a certain trendy spot where everyone seems to rave about(I mean c’mon, brussel sprouts have no business being in a Ramen!). PFFT!!! So if you want good & simple(pork or chicken) Ramen served in a quiet joint, then this is your spot. Nuff sed.

I’ve been contemplating if I should update my review of this place for a while, but my most recent experiences have sealed the deal. The ramen that used to be served here was amazing. I would tell all my friends and coworkers about it. However, during my last three visits, it’s gotten progressively worse. It seems they have changed the entire recipe in what I can only assume is a cost cutting measure. The change I’ve noticed the most is the pork used in the Tonkatsu. The once flavorful and soft pork belly has been replaced with something that tastes like FDA-rejected mystery meat. There is absolutely nothing appetizing about it from the look, taste, or texture. They’ve also removed a number of things including the garlic oil, scallions, and carrot shavings. What you get as a replacement now is an unnecessarily large amount of tofu. I may try this place again sometime down the line, but it’s no longer what it used to be.

Delicious sandwiches and extremely friendly owners. Don’t let the appearance fool you, the ingredients are fresh and good quality.

After getting word that this little deli serves good ramen, I came here with high expectations and it did not disappoint. This is a mom and pop shop deli serving mainly sandwiches and then ramen on the side. There are only 3 ramen choices(pork, chicken, or veggie). I got the chicken ramen and my husband got the pork ramen. The pork was definitely more flavorful. For the price of $ 8, it cannot be beat. Service was a little slow as it’s a small shop but we do not mind.

The ramen here is legit. Forget about Union Republic or crossing the river into Manhattan, seriously, don’t bother. The broth is authentic and delicious, as well as the noodles and other ingredients, and the egg, omg, I’m an egg freak and this egg was perfection. To top it all off, $ 8! I think I’m in heaven.

Yep. This is legit. Both halves of The Duo went with the pork ramen … we could not have been happier. It was my wife who said it best, this ramen tasted so authentic it was as if we stepped into the owners home and we’re having a special family meal. The broth was divine, I wouldn’t have dared put any additional seasoning. The Pork practically fell apart. It was nearly as soft as the tofu. Oh yeah, a Lil twist on a classic pork katsu. Bok choy, carrots, bamboo shoots … Do not come here for a flashy experience. This is a corner deli with 5 tables by my count. Husband and wife running the joint. That is not to say it wasn’t clean, it was very much so. Quite simply, this is a secret Lil corner spot that if my intuition is right, won’t be a secret for much longer … Big thanks to Elite-er Joel M. for getting the ball rolling on this spot.

Um… ok…so like you, I’m sure, I was highly skeptical when it was revealed that this place makes acceptable ramen. I am very critical of ramen and have been disappointed from similar boasts from credible Japanese places, let alone a Boar’s Head type deli. But I tried it… and dare I say… best ramen in Jersey City??? I was blown away. I tried the Pork ramen with my co-worker and the whole time we just kept saying«I can’t believe it» or «this is so good». The pork was great, very tender and slightly grilled on the outside. The broth was amazing… made with black garlic oil as I later found out. The noodles were as I liked them… not too heavy, on the thinner side. They didn’t meet the caliber of ippudo’s noodles, but I let it slide. My favorite part though were all the veggies they put in… bok choy, carrots, those flat podded peas(they are called mangentout peas, but I had to look that up… so I can’t claim that I just know that off the top of my head), and bean sprouts. The both of us left completely full and happy. They advertised this barbeque pork sandwich and I’m thinking if they use the same pork as in the ramen, it would be amazing. I need to go back and try that. The couple that owns the place is super sweet, but don’t expect any service… they have a deli to run after all. This is definitely a no frills place, the usual crowd are the contractors working on buildings near by. There are only 3 or 4 tables, people mostly grab their food and go. Definitely not the place if you are looking for atmosphere, but a new lunch spot? Oh Yeah! Joel M… I’m sorry your secret is out, but it was for the better!

I wrestled with the idea of posting this. Like, a lot. You know how sometimes you just want to keep some things your little secret? Ultimately I’ve decided to not be a douche and just let this cat out of the bag. SEVENTHSTREETDELIISDISHINGOUTSOMELEGIT, UNDERTHERADAR, RAMEN. I’m kind of obsessed with ramen right now, as is most of the NYC area. Unfortunately for JC residents, good ramen options are sorely lacking in our city. So when I stumbled upon a suspicious looking twitpic of a simple 3 item ramen menu, I had to do some investigating. I couldn’t find anything on Unilocal or elsewhere about this place, so I thought I’d go ahead and be the guinea pig. This place is an unassuming bodega/deli with a few tables. They’ve been in the location for 5 years and sell sandwiches and wraps, but just started with the ramen a month ago(according to the owner, James). It’s admittedly not much to look at and I wasn’t exactly pumped about eating here. They have 3 ramen choices, pork, chicken, or veggie. I tried the $ 8 pork tonkatsu and was EXTREMELY surprised by how good it was. The egg was suspiciously missing, but everything else was on point. Nice salty/porky/garlicy broth, toothsome noodles, fresh veggies, and succulent pieces of pork(though there was very little of it). If they start selling pork buns with that pork, I’m burning my metro card and never setting foot in Manhattan again. It’s no Ippudo or anything, but definitely will satisfy your ramen cravings.
