Good selection of wine and beer. Given how big of a space the market section is — and so little fresh produce and food available — I think it is a missed opportunity. They should definitely enhance the market section to include fresh vegetables and fruits, cheeses, etc. Given that there are no other markets in the downtown area, this place could be a real gem.

I don’t drink– which often means I’m in this place trying to buy wine for others with a few key words of what type to buy. The staff are extremely helpful every time– they take me through the choices I have and what’s good about each. The selection is pretty big and the store is nicely laid out and relaxed. You can get some basic groceries here too but that certainly isn’t the main attraction. I’ve never had any complaints about the gifts I get from this shop!

nice shop with a great wine selection. Staff is helpful and knows their business. Was there for a tasting and they had opened some rather good selections. Definitely stop in if you are in the area.

This place really does have it all: a decent selection of wine, booze for all occasions, and a variety of beer to satisfy just about everyone. Yes, you will pay more than you would shopping at buyrite, but if you’re in the neighborhood, in a hurry, or don’t want to drive, this is the place for you. The real bonus is that the staff is friendly and the store also has plenty of random items that you inevitably forgot while doing your regular shopping.

You have to love a downtown liquor store that carries Skinny Girl Cosmo and Strongbow! Maybe I am biased because I won $ 8 from Powerball tickets bought at this location. :D

Cute little shop with very friendly owners. The entrance boasts a small snack area, complete with crackers, cheese, meats, and anything else spontaneous and hors d’ouevrey. Wide selection of bottled beers, liquors, and tons and tons of wine! The wines are organized by region, and prices cover a nice range(wino to sommelier). They even have a wine cellar! Their hours could be a little later, but that could be said for every liquor store in Jersey City, so I can’t in good conscience hold that against them. Highly recommended for wine, and a cozy, local shop to support in Paulus Hook.

A bit overpriced and not the greatest selection of wines, but not the worst either. I like that they have some cheese and hard salami for sale here as well to go with your red wine. The fresh baguettes are delicious. I’d rather buy my wine at the liquor store on Montgomery if I’m passing that way or just buy it in the city, but have bought many bottles here in a pinch and I’m glad it’s around. They close at 10pm, boo hoo.

The wine at Liberty Wine is a tad overpriced. But, like most have said, I’m paying for not having to get in my car and drive all the way to Super Buy Rite to pick up a couple of bottles of wine to bring to dinner. The folks who work here/own the shop are really friendly. I probably come in here a couple of times a week to pick up wine or milk or cheese, or whatever else I’ve run out of at home. I’ve never had an issue with expiration dates on dairy products(the milk options are organic). The absolute best part of Liberty Wine is what my friends and I affectionately call their Crack Bread. As they’re connected to Paulus Hook Brick Oven Pizza, they sell loaves of bread(that look deceivingly like baguette). HOWEVER, they’re made with pizza dough. It is the most yeasty, lovely, perfectly soft bread in the world. They keep it in a basket right as you walk in the door. When the basket is empty, I die a little inside.

this is a very nice and reliable place. they have a good selection, and on fridays, a lady plays the cello in the early evening. fumes of pizza waft in from next door on occasion — so that’s nice as well.

Let me preface this review by noting I collect wine and most of my wine is purchased online and auctions rather than browsing a shop. LWD is a good place to pick up wine if you’re dining at the various BYOB restaurants(Satis, Laxmi, Presto, etc) and you forgot to bring your own, or grab a bottle for a party in a pinch. That being said, the selection is average and overpriced for most oenophiles — bottles are about +$ 5 than should be. But what do you expect from a neighborhood shop? You’re paying for convenience. LWD is a good neighborhood wine shop, and I hope it continues to do well as we need places like this in the neighborhood. I believe the owner also owns Paulus Hook Pizza, which makes the best pizza in the area.

Great selection, and very friendly staff. I am not sure if any of them know anything about wine because I’ve never asked, but I can’t say enough how welcoming and friendly they are. They hold wine tastings on Friday nights, so my guess is they have some knowledge of wines. Also, they have an amazing selection of wines from all regions and all price ranges. I can poke around in here for awhile, so my wife usually sends me in with specific instructions as to cut down on time spent. They have a pretty good variety of beer too, but sometimes inventory is a tad inconsistent. You will find every type of liquor you want as well. Prices are comparable to any other places in the hood unless you drive over to Buy Rite. They have a small selection of grocer items, but no produce or anything like that. Just staples that you may need in a pinch, but definitely check the expiration dates. I don’t say that as a knock on this place. I think all little corner stores in NY/NJ are the same in that respect. Any way, if you are headed to Presto’s for a nice Italian dinner, on your way to a party, or just in the mood for a good bottle of wine… make this place your first stop.

Went to a BYO place at the corner and this place happened to be strategically nearby. They have a nice variety of wines and liquors — I would have perused longer if I had the time. The person at the counter was really nice too.

This place is super convenient if you find yourself in Jersey City and need to grab a bottle or a sixpack. They have a fairly decent selection and the prices seem good to. I was able to score a nice bottle of Carmenere right before I hit the BYOB down the street. Not much more to report on it. I did not experience the deli portion whatsoever. It’s nice inside and the guy working the counter was pleasant albeit not very conversational. I don’t seem him as the type to help recommend a wine. It fits well in the neighborhood and when I’m back in the area, I’ll swing through for another bottle.

This is a great, convenient wine and booze store right across the street from my apartment. The beer selection is a little smaller than I’d like, but the wine selection fills about half a city block. I’m not kidding. They even have wine in the basement, with the MOTHERLOVINGKOIPOND, yes, indeed! Free wine tastings on Fridays. A small convenience store nook for things if you really need them(and you don’t, not really), and they’re connected to Paulus Hook Brick Oven Pizza in the back. You can order your pie, go pick out some wine, and everything be ready about when you check out. One scrape that bothered me, and bothers me still: I went to buy a six-pack of a Sam Adams seasonal which came to about $ 9.40 on the cash register one evening. I handed the cashier lady a tenner, and she slipped it in the drawer and smiled at me. I waited, and said, «Change?» and she just shook her head and made a hand gesture that looked like, «That’s it.» Then her smile faded and she turned away from me, clearly disinterested. It was only sixty cents, but… kind of shady. I haven’t seen her around much, but it bothers me that any of the cashiers would stiff me on anything. Next time she keeps my change, I’ll raise a ruckus.

This review is based on customer service. I bought a six pack of Sam Adams Summer Ale from this place and brought it back to my apartment. Popped open a bottle and it was flat and odd tasting. Not this place’s fault, but my wife decided to call them to see if they would take it back. Over the phone, they agreed no questions asked. I brought the beer back and they took it without a problem and allowed me to exchange it for another six pack. Even though the one I picked was a little bit more, they didn’t charge me the difference. In this day and age, I find that level of customer service amazing. So freaking accommodating. I’ll admit the place is a bit pricy, but with that kind of service, I’ll definitely be going back. As for Sam Adams, I am disappoint.

I was so excited to find this place across the street from our new apartment. Great selection of wine and liquor, and you can’t beat the convenience. I am so glad that I don’t have to drive or take public transportation to find a decent bottle of wine! Added bonus — wine tastings every month.
