Great service, great pharmacist and he always finds the best solution for all the pains a family has during the year!!! We are so happy to have you in the neighborhood!!!

Love this place but some things that need work:
Vacuum and clean the rug and place. For a pharmacy where medicine is dispensed, cleanliness is important.
Wish refill were on some kind of automatic service where you get a call, text, or email.

I’m in town helping my bestie; she just had a baby. I needed to stop at a pharmacy to grab something for her, and stopped here as it was between her children’s school and home (I’ve been picking them up while she rests). This the most quaint, and beautiful little place I’ve ever laid eyes on! I made sure to vocalize that to the owner once I was checking out… and he is the sweetest man.
This was literally my first purchase since being here, and it couldn’t have been at a better place… If I lived here, this place would definitely be on the normal-​attendance list.

This place is perfect and beats the socks off all the crappy CVS, Duane Reade chain stores.
Jean Baptiste is great, I often call through to get prescriptions refills and it takes less than a minute on the phone. Plus he drops them off at my building at no charge so I don’t even have to swing by after work.
Love it! A really great pharmacy and a great reason to shop local and support small businesses!

I was having a hard time filling a prescription all around the Grove area, and the pharmacist at Hooks not only had it, but was willing to work with me on some issues of generics vs brand. I was really impressed… isn’t the way pharmacies are SUPPOSED to work?

I love hook pharmacy. Although it seems small, it magically has anything you probably are searching for in a pharmacy. It’s like Mary Poppin’s purse. The level of service is great too, friendly but also professional.

This is my pharmacy of choice now that my insurance company allows me to go to any pharmacy that participates in Futurescript. Hook Pharmacy does. The level of personal service far exceeds anything I have ever seen before. I live nearby and he even delivered something I was not able to pick up. Hook Pharmacy does everything it can to take care of you and goes out of its way to do it. I’ve never experienced a pharmacy like this before. Truly wonderful.

As it seems, I’m not the only one to sing the praises of Bellande, owner of Hook Pharmacy. He deserves it. He’s very knowledgable, personable and genuine. He runs a tight ship and it shows. His little pharmacy is one of my favorite things about living in Paulus Hook. Before moving here about 2 years ago, I went to a CVS very close to my home in central NJ for over 4 years. They never knew my name, I rarely had the same person helping me and overall it was usually average to bad in terms of service. Hook Pharmacy is the complete and total opposite of this. Make the switch, you will not be sorry!

My sister lives in the neighborhood and was very ill for several weeks, I went to Jersey City to look after her and had the opportunity to frequent this absolutely superb pharmacy. Sister is just fine now, thank you, and this prince among men, Jean Baptiste, owner and professional pharmacist is, in large measure the reason she has been restored to good health.
So do allow me to add my voice to the joyful chorus, singing the praises of this absolutely wonderful pharmacy and its owner and proprietor. I happily add my two cents worth and endorse the consistent rave reviews this pharmacy has engendered — SO well deserved. A kind and charming man, Jean Baptiste goes above and beyond and cares very deeply about his clientele. Kudos and accolades to a GENTLEMAN, the owner of a small business. A great success professionally and personally, I rather think that if Jean Baptiste ran for mayor of Jersey City, he would win handily. He is absolutely beloved by all and that IS as it should be. So good people of Jersey City, do yourself a huge favor and frequent this pharmacy. In short order, you, too, will be join the chorus here, singing the praises of Hook Pharmacy and Mr. Baptiste.

I am so glad that I found this pharmacy; my only regret is that I walked by it daily for so long and I didn’t try it sooner. It’s a small store and they don’t have the vast inventory that the big chain pharmacies have, but what they excel in is having quite a few less common, but still popular specialty items that you almost never find in the chain stores. They also have unbeatable service. The pharmacist is a friendly and pleasant as other reviewers have said, and he goes out of his way to accommodate you. My son is on a medication that can be hard to get sometimes. Several months ago none of the local or chain pharmacies in the area could get it for me in time to fill his prescription, one even told me that I might have to wait at least a week for them to get it in, and that was a major chain. I called Hook and the pharmacist promised me that he could have it in the very next day, and he did. He has also kept it in stock ever since so that I could get same day service and not have to worry. I would recommend Hook to anyone who is looking for more than impersonal drop off/​pick-​up service. Here is a pharmacy where you are treated as a valued customer from the first time you walk in the door. You can receive fast and convenient service without it being impersonal, and you can have your questions thoughtfully answered. It really is a small town pharmacy in the city.

Old fashion drug store where you can really talk to the pharmist Friendly and will go out of his way to help. Love Vichy line and always finds time to get me my favorite product. Recommend this drug store highly.

He is wonderfully helpful and the delivery service is incredible when you are not feeling well. He has looked for coupons for me and given me information about many things. This is the best pharmacy I have come across in ANY neighborhood in a very long time.

Jean-​Baptise is amazing and a local. A real community place that will go out of it’s way for you. And the local art is a nice touch.

I really regret not coming to this place earlier. I always pass it on my way to and back from work, but never ventured inside. I’m always surprised at how many little gems there are in Jersey City. And this place is one of them.
They have a lot of products you would find at a regular pharmacy except cheaper! Amazingly, I found my favorite brands of gummy vitamins here for at least a dollar less than at Shop Rite.
Main reason why I like this place is the owner/​pharmacist. He is very friendly and genuinely cares about his customers, unlike the Duane Reade pharmacists who look so glum all the time. I haven’t gotten my prescriptions filled here yet, but will be going to this place from now on.

Unbelievable service! I stumbled upon this pharmacy on a summer Friday afternoon incredibly sick and unable to find a doctor that would see me. The pharmacist/​owner was so incredibly kind and made multiple calls on my behalf to local doctors to try to find me someone I could see. He was unable to find anyone still open that afternoon but followed up with me the next morning to check up on me and make sure I was able to schedule an appointment with one of the doctors he recommended. Really grateful — turns out I had bronchitis, upper respiratory infection and an ear infection!!!
I now go to hook pharmacy for all my prescriptions and the owner is always very helpful and patient going over pricing with me before he fills my prescriptions. Two thumbs up!

I’ve been meaning to write a review for awhile and am finally getting around to it! I honestly can’t say enough good things about Hook Pharmacy. When I first moved to Jersey City, I was still using CVS as my main pharmacy. I often had to wait for a long time and it seemed like there was always a different person behind the counter each time I went. My sister told me about how great Hook was so I decided to give it a try.
The owner/​main pharmacist is one of the nicest guys in the area. He is always friendly and remembered me after only being in a few times. I’ve never had to wait longer then ten minutes for a prescription to be filled. Also, I feel comfortable asking him for recommendations on medicines when I have a specific problem. He always takes the time to talk to me and help with whatever I need. The other members of the staff have also always been friendly and very helpful.
If you are looking for a great pharmacy in the Paulus Hook area, I would highly recommend Hook Pharmacy. They are the best!

Hook Pharmacy is the best in the area. It is a true neighborhood pharmacy. The Pharmacist, who is the owner, is always there and is super helpful. He gives you the personal attention you need. They have a great selection of baby, bath, body products and vitamins/​supplements. They even do local delivery!!! They are the best!!!

I agree with all of the glowing reviews here. I am very happy that I’ve chosen Hook Pharmacy as my primary source of getting prescriptions filled.
I was looking for a place where I would get a little more personality, and also wanted to continue to support local businesses. The pharmacist/​owner here is extremely welcoming, and remembers you right away. He fills prescriptions quickly and often I haven’t had to wait very long to get them. If he has to order the prescription, he will send an automated text message when your prescription is ready to be picked up.
I appreciated his honesty today when I was about to pick up a prescription, when he warned me about a high price tag on a script. When I decided to not purchase it after all, he completely understood and gave me no grief. I feel that I have gained his trust, because he is very transparent on why some prescriptions cost the way they do. I’m not sure if I would get that type of service if I was still getting my prescriptions at a CVS or Duane Reade.
Hook Pharmacy also has a small but varied selection of over the counter medicines and toiletries as well, at fair prices. Its nice to browse and get what you need while waiting. If you don’t need to shop and need to wait, there are a couple of chairs around for you to sit in.
Hopefully I will continue to stay healthy… but in the few cases that I’m not, I can count on Hook Pharmacy in my neighborhood. :)

When I came home after my surgery with a prescription for Vicodin, I was not sure if I needed quite that much pain killer. The owner was so sweet as he helped me pick out the right OTC, and prepared my prescription for me just in case. He even jotted down my address and gave me a number to call if the pain got worse — so that he could bring my prescription to me if I needed it later that day. I cannot tell you how comforting that was!
There are so few genuine business owners out there, but this one truly cares about every single one if his customers. You could tell he loves what he does.

I am so happy this place opened up in my neighborhood. It is just what we needed.
The owner is wonderful man who some of you may know from the pharmacy at the A&P. He has opened a quaint, throwback of a pharmacy on a prime corner in Paulus Hook.
First and formost, he can handle all prescriptions. Not only can he handle them, he fills them fast & will text you when your order is ready for pick up. Pretty cool.
He also carries a wide variety of OTC drugs, beauty/​cosmetics, etc. Lots of little neighborhood shops carry little known brands, or sometimes they have no inventory. He keeps his place stocked with household names as well as some high end boutiquey brands. He is also very open to suggestions. If you ask him to carry a certain product or brand he will do his best to have it on the shelves the next time you come in.
The customer service is just what you would expect from a neighborhood pharmacist. I really think the care in which he handles each customer has been lost on our generation of CVS, Rite Aid & Duane Reade monster drug stores.
These are the types of business we should truly support in a neighborhood like Paulus Hook.
