Modell’s Sporting Goods

Located in the heart of Jamaica, this is a two level store. Footwear and sporting goods being located in what I refer to as the basement or dungeon level. There’s usually only one associate on the lower level and he/​she is covering footwear and sporting goods. Sneaker prices are atrocious nowadays, especially here considering the construction is so much more flimsier now. That being said, from time to time they will usually have some items on sale or in clearance (advertised and unadvertised) and so I’ll stop in every other year when I need a new pair of sneakers. {Yes, I’m one of the few women without multiple footwear options but I’m a simple living gal at heart. :-)} The employees are really hit and miss. Depending upon how long they’ve been there and general personality, they can be sweet and then you come across the ones who straight up don’t care. I partially understand because it’s Jamaica Avenue and if you are a local like me then you understand what I’m saying there. Even security is surly and won’t even respond to a good morning or have a nice day from a customer. Is this location my first choice for shopping… nope…but in a pinch, it’ll do.

Decent prices for sneakers I get my kids sneakers from here and don’t break the bank, there are usually not too many sales people on the floor but that’s OK with me because I buy off the sale rack which is help yourself ! On this most recent visit I had to wait awhile to get my son’s foot sized but other than that I am cool with this location!

I needed a whistle for an event and since I was by here, I came in thinking the store would have one. I couldn’t find help on the floor so I asked the cashier. He pointed me to a place nearby where there were several but I chose the one that looked like the old fashioned gym whistle which is what I was looking for.
It was in a package and the cord to attach to the whistle so it can be worn around the neck had to be attached. I went back to the checkout counter and asked the price since it wasn’t labeled. I was given the price which was acceptable. I paid for the item and left.

I used to come here to buy my new JanSport bookbag when I was in school. The prices here is ok… i was here last year and the staff is ok…
