History

Established in 1959.

Keegan’s Service Station was opened 55 years ago by Russell Keegan, Sr. As a result of surgical complications, Russell Jr stepped in to help his father manage the business 35 years ago and never left.

Helping customers by providing no-​nonsense automotive care fulfilled Russell’s desire to work with people and his community in a meaningful way. The Keegan family continues to offer excellent automotive repairs as we celebrate over 50 years of continuous service!

For over 35 years, Russell has been caring for Keegan’s customers like family. He is ASE certified, meaning he has received Automotive Service Excellence certification. When not at Keegan’s, Russell is with his wife of 40 years, and enjoying their two kids and three grandkids. Professional, fair prices, quick service.
Great shop. I ran into some brake trouble and brought my car in to Keegan’s after getting a quote the day before. Work was done within a few hours, and at a fair price. Will definitely be bringing my car here in the future if anything comes up.

Yes, I highly recommend Keegan’s. I tried other places in JP. This is by far the best! Been there for about 6 – 7 different issues with my cars and NEVER had any problems with the service I was given. They fixed everything the first time. It’s worth going here do me at least. I know this is the place for me.

Keegan’s was recommended to me by friends in the neighborhood several years ago and yet somehow I never took my car in for service until earlier this fall. I am so sorry I haven’t been using their services until now — I could have saved myself a bunch of money and stress. Russ was immediately helpful — told me to bring my car in the morning I called, my brakes are replaced (never cheap but definitely necessary and a very fair price) and I drove away feeling like my car had been given a thorough once-​over as Russ informed me of other potential things to have replaced/​fixed in the future. Prices are fair and for those of us with long commutes/​difficult schedules, it’s nice to know you can get in on a Saturday if need be. Short story — trust your friends.

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! I wish I could give these guys 0 stars. The only reason they are still in business is because they steal from their customers. I took my car there because it was overheating. It is a Nissan and was low mileage. I had been down on my luck lately and I really felt like they were going to be good to me. When I got called back, they said it would be something like $ 1200 to fix. They charged $ 125 for diagnostics. I couldn’t even get my car back until I paid that. I could have gotten that done at Auto zone! I had a friend of mine look at it and he said the work they had quoted should only cost about $ 600. Then I took it somewhere else for another opinion. They said the same thing about Keegans quote. They then said engine is kaput and they think someone messed with it. So either the engine was dead and Keegans wanted to have me keep bringing my car back or they messed with it. I’m a very positive person and I am not paranoid by any means, but I just feel really icky about this place regardless of what actually happened.

I’ve now taken my vehicle to Keegan’s twice and also took my boyfriend’s truck here as well. Again, Brian and Russ were quick to help and get the needed repair work done ahead of schedule.

Stopped by without an appointment to see if they could take a look at a loose wire mount in my tire well before my wife and I drive to Jersey tonight. Mechanic came right out, installed a replacement bolt, and wouldn’t even take my money when I tried to pay him. Very kind & professional — I’ll definitely be back.

My coworker raves about Keegan’s so I brought my car in after hearing a loud ticking noise on my way to work. After examining the car for several potential issues, Russ called me to let me know the noise was just some tape that was left on my windshield after getting a replacement a few days prior. I was immensely relieved (and felt kinda dumb). The customer service here was exceptional. They were courteous, efficient, and didn’t even charge me for looking at this issue. I will definitely be back next time I have a real issue to deal with. Highly recommend.

Brought my Mazda 3 here after many failed attempts at other mechanics in JP to get an engine light issue cleared up. Been through 2 mechanics and at least 6 visits before coming to Keegan’s. These guys cleared it up in an afternoon and did it with some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. To boot there was a thank you card in with the info pack you get at checkout. Seriously. Hands down the best mechanic in JP. And for what it’s worth they’re the first certified «green «mechanic by City of Boston. A true 5 star review from a very picky person.

Initially, I had a very positive experience with Russ — had a tire patched and some other minor repairs and some nice conversation… he really took the time to share information about how the tire works, etc. About a week later, though, the tire was flat again. Their hours aren’t reliable (posted hours on Unilocal and their website don’t match whether you’ll find a mechanic there or not… or maybe the one there is just working on his own truck for the day and not accepting customers…). When I finally brought it to another mechanic, he told me that the patch job wasn’t good and found an additional nail in the tire… who knows if it was there when Keegan’s had it…
May have been a fluke, and I won’t rule out going back to Keegan’s, but definitely call ahead to make sure they’re open before just showing up!

This place is the best — Russ is super helpful and kind and makes sure to explain everything to you. As a young woman with limited car knowledge, I never felt talked down to or taken advantage of. They’re also straight up with you, I had a pretty old car and some problems they’d just tell me that it might not be worth fixing. They clearly have the interests if their customers in mind and aren’t just tying to get your money. They also, super generously, let me leave the car in the lot for weeks because of crazy paperwork/​moving/​registration logistics. By the end of it, Russ felt like family.
I had to get rid of my car, but if I still had it I would still be going there.

After reading several good reviews, we thought this was a good place to the take the car. WRONG! He was nice, yes. But he ripped us off and tried to even more. Was having problems with the car running in limp mode. Dropped if off and told him what codes were coming up. He called and said it was fixed, that all that it needed was to have the computer reset. Paid $ 180 and couldn’t even make it the 2 miles home. Same problems, nothing changed. He gave us a machine to borrow to clear the codes and said that could get it to my work and back. Wrong. I had to miss work and basically paid him $ 180 to hook it up to a machine and clear the codes and then try to tell me it was fixed.
Took it back a 3rd time and now he says the timing belt is loose and it will be about $ 520 to replace. That’s just the timing belt, not even the water pump with it… for over $ 520 and it would take him almost 4 days before it would ready. That means even more work to miss. When we brought up the money that we already gave him, he said that the work he did on it was necessary. What work? I’m never going here again and I’m taking my car to another place up the road.

I have lived in JP for almost two years now and one of the things I love about this area is that Keegan’s has my back on everything car related. I have gotten inspections, tune ups, oil changes, and everything in between. The guys are friendly and have a no BS attitude toward analyzing what’s not working right and then giving a fair shake on the prices.
I’ve had even had them help with my scooter. I love these guys. I would happily recommend them to anyone in the area looking a mechanic that wants you as a customer for life instead of a quick $ 50 today.

Highly recommended. Russ saved me $ 1000+ dollars on my car repairs and ended my several month long state inspection ordeal. He patiently listened to my needs and concerns and carefully explained my options for repair, including what wasn’t necessary to fix in order to save me money.
I put off getting my car repaired for months because I generally dislike the experience of going to the mechanic and was worried my vaguely diagnosed issues could easily lead to $ 1000’s in diagnostic fees, parts and labor and that very well might have happened at another mechanic but not at Keegan’s: Russ and his crew were able to get my car up to inspection standards at a fraction of the cost and in practically no time at all. Overall knowledgeable, friendly, and affordable service.
