Specialties

Specialties include all manner of fine celebratory printing.

Such things as wedding invitations, keepsakes, and favours; baby announcements, and holiday greetings.

We also pride ourselves on the design and printing of fine business stationery and cards, personal stationery and note cards, limited edition music packaging and gig posters, books and brochures, bookplates, gallery invitations, broadsides, certificates, and other beautifully printed ephemera.

All work is produce by hand on vintage presses, and from one of the largest collections of vintage foundry type and ornament in the North East.

History

Established in 1992.

A moonlight business while the collection of vintage presses, type, and materials was financed and developed, the printing office was taken full time fall of 2010.

2012 sees our 20th anniversary of producing genuine, old school hot metal letterpress.

Meet the Business Owner

Michael B.

Business Owner

I’m just a guy who loves historic type, and fine graphic design.

I also love a good hoppy ale, fixed gear single speed bicycles, classic, punk, and indie rock, and coaxing cantankerous old machines into producing beautiful work.

All about DIY, I can fix just about anything. I’ve recently expanded the shop into a new space which I designed, and more or less single handedly built, and with space more more type and equipment, provisioned with a big new press built in 1941.

Besides collecting rare type and materials to design and print from, I also have an increasingly significant collection of rare books on printing and typography, and the knowledge gleaned from them informs my work.

Equally visually and verbally oriented, besides graphic design, I’m a technical draftsman, as well as having the ability to copywrite, and edit as needed.
