Red Cap Car & Limousine Service

Pretty standard, no frills type of cab service. That’s all you need, really, unless you’re high maintenance and need a full stretched limo equipped with jazz music and flutes of complimentary champagne, lol.
As a St. John’s student living near campus, I always call Red Cap when I need a ride to the airport. They’ve been serving me for 3+ years now and have always been reliable. Cheap service as well, although prices have increased throughout the years. A ride used to be $ 20 +tip (from St. John’s to JFK), but it’s now $ 23 + tip +$ 3 if you pay w/​card. Not a big deal, but I feel like I already spend a good amount on transportation, so hopefully prices don’t continue climbing. As I said, they do take card (extra $ 3 charge), but you’d have to call them to give them your card info over the phone.

I have used this service twice. The first time for round trip. The driver was terrible. We had several close calls on the road. He had no experience. Unprofessional.
The second time was a one way. I accepted the quote. They don’t tell you they will charge $ 3– a minute for any additional time over the quote. If you hit traffic it will get very expensive. Also I tipped driver before finding out he over charged me for 12 minutes. The rate for a 7 hour round trip was slightly higher then that of a 45 min one way drop off. $ 179.00 for a drop off plus $ 25 tip. Would have accepted charges if they were up front.

You get what you pay for, right?
Look, this is a no frills car service that hasn’t failed me by being consistently available to go to and from the airport or around the city. As long as you aren’t expecting a stretch limo with drink service, you’ll find them reliable and reasonable.

Ray is amazing! I came from Los Angeles and he was so helpful. My driver was great. He knew exactly where he was going. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this over a cab if you are not from NYC because you pay a flat rate. The only reason I bring it down a star was the rude driver I had the second day.

Horrible car service. Their drivers never get there on time, and they always leave you on hold for ages and then hang up on you. Every time I call a cab, its a new horrible experience to add to my repertoire of stories from these people. I would not recommend this cab service to anyone.
