History

Established in 1994.

«Life goes on and some things never change.»

As the noteriety of the village of Jackson increased, large hotels were built, many offering more than 100 rooms each. One of these large great hotels was the Eagle Mountain House, which was built originally in 1879 by Cyrus E. & Marcia Gayle. The present Carter Notch Inn was built around 1890 near the large hotel and began its life as a two room «annex» for overflow guests of the main Inn. As the Gale family grew, it was decided to enlarge the «Annex» for use as the family homestead. The two parlors were incorporated into one large living room with a beautiful fireplace and a kitchen and 5 bedrooms were added.

Over the years other changes were made and at one time it housed the serving staff of the Eagle Mountain House. After years of neglect, the «Annex» was completely renovated and opened for business again in 1994 as the Carter Notch Inn.
