Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area. Dim sum is fresh and delicious!!!

Great place. Food is delicious. Gave it a 4 instead of a 5 service was 85% instead of 100% I think they are out of business though? Been closed for renovation for sometime now.

My family’s been coming here for decades. We usually come here when we have a big group. It helps that my grandpa is friends with the managers, so I guess that’s why we go back so often. When we get the 10-course chinese banquet menu, the food is always solid. And they are always willing to work with us to adjust the menu.

This place has really gone downhill. We used to come here when I was a kid, for birthday parties and nice dinners. We even hosted a large event in the banquet hall once. However, I was there just a couple of months ago and ended up returning my meal and leaving. The broccoli tasted really, really wrong and my friend’s chicken did not seem to be properly cooked. The table was less than pristine, as were our napkins. I had heard rumors that the restaurant was not what it used to be, but I was truly shocked. It’s sad. The place has a lot of potential and really used to be great, but something is awry these days.

I love their Shrimp and Broccoli and their Egg Foo Young dishes. Two very simple dishes. But oh so good. I really look forward to my favorite waiter, Pak when I go there. He’s a gem.

I don’t know how it started, but Chinese food has become my go-to the day after a big night out. On New Years’ Day, lunch at King’s Chef was just what I needed. My boyfriend and I split the spicy dumplings(dim sum), chicken fried rice, and general tso chicken. The dumplings were good, although the only spicy thing about them was the side of sauce that went with them. I also really liked the combination of fried rice and general tso chicken. As much as I enjoyed my meal, it wasn’t anything special. I used to come here when I younger and thought the same thing back then. It’s a decent option when looking for a sit-down Chinese restaurant in the area.

Had my engagement dinner here! They separated us into a private room, so that’s a plus. Food wise, they added alcohol to the shark fin soup which made a notable difference in taste – not a fan. The lobster was delicious. We had a similar meal at Sunny Palace in East Brunswick a week before, so it’s hard not to draw comparisons, but I felt like Sunny Palace did the abalone dish, the steamed fish dish, and the shark fin soup dish better. Also, the lobsters in the lobster dish were bigger at Sunny Palace. Okay, after this I will go rate Sunny Palace four stars. King’s Chef offered a private room, for the party we had(30 people), and that’s not something you can necessarily find anywhere else.

I had a large dinner party here. I’m reviewing this as objectively as possible, totally separate from the great time and company I had there. It seemed like a pretty typical Chinese restaurant. I don’t really like the very old-fashioned traditional Chinese decoration. Red walls. The floors seemed a little sticky and the bathroom was a bit scary(not too dirty, but just scary). The place doesn’t look very clean or modern either, but I guess we’re mostly there for food. So, we had a bunch of dishes from the cold meats, fish, lobster, fried crab balls, fried rice(which I really liked), fried noodles, abalone with mushrooms and veggies(?) and chicken(i think that’s all of them). Overall, the food pretty good, especially since I went hungry. The service was top notch too. Food was good, service is good, but the environment was not very pleasant.

I like the dimsum food here. Five of us go, fill ourselves, & we have a hard time cracking $ 60. There are plenty of choices, & the staff during dimsum time(11 – 3? Sat-Sun) roll carts out with the food. When you get one, they put a mark on your scorecard so they can add up your bill later. It is really neat. The food is great. The only downside is that they don’t appear to take American Express, but at such low prices, this isn’t necessarily a big deal.

Chinese food is a great way to blow away the Hurricane Sandy blews(get it? Blews? eh…) and I decided to give King’s Chef a try today. Upon seating, we were given tea, water and the big olé’ menu. Servers with carts began circling around, offering very tempting plates of shumai, dim sum, and various desserts. The shrimp dim sum was very good, very moist and plump. The mustard and hot sauce to dip them in was delicious. The entrée I chose was the black pepper chicken. It came out quick, but not too quick, steaming hot. Chicken was absolutely scrumptious and tender. The sauce was so spicy and mouth-watering, I wanted to lick the plate afterwards! There was a perfect amount of veggies in ratio to chicken. Portion size was very large, you’re most likely going to have to take some home, especially if you filled up on the appetizers being pushed around. Oh, and the drinks. The drinks! There’s a bunch of very low priced cocktails on the beverage menu. I tried the drink called«The Zombie» because it was described as having«lethal amounts» of rum. Sounds like a plan! It was big, not too much ice and really fruity. They certainly did not skimp on the rum. I could have easily had two or three of these puppies. King’s has a very efficient system going, and the servers really do a good job of making sure orders are fulfilled in a timely matter, as well as getting you out in a decent amount of time. The décor is nice, nothing too fancy. The fact that it’s right on Route 1&9 doesn’t take away from the ambiance. If you’re looking for a twist on the usual Chinese food experience, King’s is the place to go.

I am not sure what the«Dim Sum» is on Sunday but the food any other day of the week was sub par for my dog. I was here with my children for dinner and they will never let me live it down. I actually think my children will never eat chinese food again because of the awful memories they will have from that dinner. The shredded pork in the wonton soup was rancid, the sweet and sour chicken tasted like they burned the chicken when they fried it, then put alot of redish sauce over it to make it taste better. The only problem is that when you eat it nothing tasted good about it at all. No flavor. The chicken lo mein was full of garlic, but we could bearly find chicken. When I asked for a manager to explain the dissatisfaction with the lo mein he said they use«shredded chicken». I think I found four pieces of chicken that were about 1″ long and 1/8″ wide. What a waste of $ 11.00. I could have gone to McDonalds and fed three people for the cost of one and I would have been insured better quality food. The place smelled moldy, it looked like it hadn’t been renovated in 20 years and the service was just mediocre. The management would have been better off dressed like a group of clowns, at least I would have gotten a laugh. THISISTHEMOSTDISAPPOINTINGFOODEXPERIENCE I EVERHAD! DONOTGO, especially if you are hungry.

I’ve been here 3 times, and all three times i was brought here by the same family friend. needless to say, this is probably her favorite restaurant. To me, the food was pretty ordinary. Actually now that I think about it, compared to the other chinese restaurants i’ve been to in NJ, this is probably the most authentic and most remniscent of chinese restaurants in china. The family friend’s favorite dish is the lobster fruit salad. I have to say, it’s pretty good, but not so amazing that I would go there everytime I visit them(voluntarily anyways…). I guess overall, I think it’s really ordinary, but i think i’m comparing them to the chinese food i actually have in china(which btw, is amazing). So 4 stars for authenticity :) I have to agree with the rest of the review-ers that the appearance from the outside is rather daunting. If i wasn’t brought by the friend, i probably would have never considered even entering. Oh, and i think they are very good at customer service. My friend is a regular and whenever she dines her guests all get special treatment. They give us free drinks and free deserts too, pretty awesome :)

Me and my girlfriends get together early on a Saturday morning after drinking heavily the night before just to make the dim sum service at this place. We live about 40 mins away and we like to get there around 12:30 just when all the good stuff is coming out. For those of you who have never dim-summed before it is fabulous! Waiters come around with hot carts of food sizes small medium and large of all different types. ALL different kind of steamed dumplings(shrimp, pork, chicken, scallop), fish balls, fried shrimp, calamari, bokchoy, noodles, sticky rice, shrimp in walnuts, shrimp in almonds, the list goes on and on! Just tell them what you want, they mark it off on your«score» card and you enjoy ! Most plates come in three’s, perfect for us three girls! There is a variety of hot soups and dessert items available as well. My favorite is one the Taho. Basically soft tofu covered in clear sweet syrup, absolutely delicious! Perfect cure for a hangover!

i was brought here by relatives for dinner. once i stepped inside, the décor of the restaurant made it look slightly off and haunted. there were red lights glowing from the ceiling. the place wasn’t well lit. the tables and chairs were old. the food wasn’t good. the soup had too much corn starch. the taste of the dishes were off. the red bean dessert soup was even served cold. not impressed.

I’ve been here three times with my friend’s family and I must say all three times were a blast. The first time it was a Sunday in the early afternoon and the place had a good deal of people dining there. Still we got a good seat and were served rather quickly. I love love loved the food! The rice was delicious and all of their fish and shrimp dishes were soooo good. The third time was for my friend’s birthday party and we had a separate room with karaōke. And boy I was not disappointed! The food was awesome again and honestly the best part was the sushi. Those rainbow rolls were heaven on earth and the yellowtail was incredible. Fair prices? Check! Great food? Check! Recommend to you guys? Absolutely! Coming back? YESYESYES!

It’s the weekend, don’t feel like paying $ 30+ dollars to park in NYC or feel like taking the Path and a subway(or 2) to get to chinatown… what do you do? King’s Chef, the best dim sum I’ve had this side of the Hudson. Service isn’t terrible, they swarm around even before you sit down, but once you let them know you’re content with the 6 dishes you have in front of you, they respect your space and you can go to town! Can’t forget, their prices are very reasonable… hmmm come to think of it, I might stop by this weekend

I was brought here by relatives, and the external appearance was already not very appealing. It was dark and dim and didn’t even look open, to be honest. We got there in the afternoon on a Saturday, which should be prime time for a dim sum. Unfortunately, we were one of three tables there. Since we walked in, a few servers were relunctantly bringing dishes to us. The food was just alright, nothing great. I’m not sure if northeast Chinese food has gone down, or if Houston’s Chinese market is just expanding. The service was a little above average though, because my relatives are regulars. Other then that, this place didn’t really make an impression. The best part of the meal was the special ordered panfried noodles.

There’s just not that many good Chinese restaurants in NJ, however this place rocks on the exotic Chinese food(basically the authentic Hong Kong food). It’s a nice setting(too quiet though especially for a Saturday night) and from the exterior, it looks like a silo attached to the farm(unappealing exterior but at least you get plenty of parking) I can’t comment on the other Chinese food as if there is any inkling of Chinese-American flavor, then my disgusted face comes out. Dishes I like Peking Pork, steamed chicken with ginger& scallions, snow pea leaves with garlic. Taste-wise, it’s all good but comes with hefty prices. Service is tepid, lack of dining etiquette… could smile more and give us large plates for dinner! I find Chinatown, NYC or Flushing, Queens have much better prices. Perhaps it’s this NJ Chinese restaurant mentality, charge more since I don’t have much competition in sight.

This was our dim sum place back when I lived in Edison. We will still go here when we visit our old friends. Dim sum is very tasty, and they come around with the carts pretty fast but not in that oh-no-here-comes-another-one-with-more-stuff-that-I-don’t-want way. Fresh seafood and full bar, which for an under-21 like me meant SHIRLEYTEMPLES. I won’t lie. I love King’s Chef because this is where I had my first ever Shirley Temple and it was delicious.(We used to ask for it as «special drink» and they always delivered.) You might have to wait, but that’s usually a good sign. There are a lot of people here, usually a lot of big groups, and I used to love just walking around looking at fish while hearing the background noise of groups of people having a good time and enjoying dim sum.

Every time I go to the dirty jerz to visit my family, we always get dim sum from KC’s. As someone who grew up in the area, my family has tried many dim sum restaurants to find the best one in terms of price and deliciousness. So, for us to come back consistently to this restaurant speaks volumes about the quality of the food. The customer service is also fantastic – we’re always greeted at the door and the general manager usually stops by our table to see how we’re doing – and the servers are good at also providing menus and the like for us to order main dishes to accompany our food. The only downside is that I can’t eat as much as I used to, so after a while, I“m just watching people eat all the yummy that I can’t fit into my stomach(I would have typed«tummy» right there, but I thought I’d for a less 3rd grade approach). Am looking forward to my next visit there!
