Smile by Design Dental Group

I recently have had several dental procedures done here including implant, implant removal and replacement (prom a prior sub-​standard dental office) as well as the regular cleaning and «light duty» work. I have had a wonderful experience with each visit. Dr. Choi has state of the art equipment and skills along with an immaculate office environment and very friendly staff. I struggle through getting any dental work done and they have me feeling at ease every time. I would highly recommend this office for anything from the regular checkup to major dental procedures!

My experience was excellent. I had a tooth break and needed a crown. I had an existing dentist but I didnt want to sit throught hours of work on two seperate occasions so I looked online and found Smile by Design. The next day I had an appointment. Roughly 2 hours later I walked out with a crown that didn’t feel foreign. This is my 4^th crown and they never seem to fit perfectly. They augment your bite and seem to take a while to get comfortable with. Smile by Design Scans your teeth and make a digital copy of your bite so they can determine areas of excessive contact. After some modest adjustments they push send to mill and you have a new tooth. Its pretty impressive really. The next day I woke up and couldn’t even tell anything had been done. The office is very proffesional and I look forward to my next appointment in 2 weeks for some other issues I am having.

I have been with the Smile by Design family for almost 5 years and they’ve always been helpful and friendly. I think it’s great how they remind you for check ups and upcoming appointments. Dr. Choi and his assistants work very well together making me feel at ease when I’m getting work done. It’s a nice and clean atmosphere. And they have korean speaking workers so it was another plus for us.

Dr. Choi and his staff are very friendly and funny. It’s already scary going to the dentist, so it’s nice to have a supportive team to ease the pain.

Dr. Choi is the best dentist I’ve ever met. He is so nice and so humorous. Everyone in the office are great! My daughter loves them all.

Dr. Michael is the best doctor I have been met. He is patient careful and humorous, especially he is professional. I am happy to see my teeth is getting straight. So far so good! Let’s wait and see the good changing.

I was looking for a good dentist and I decided to give this place a try because of the good ratings that everyone was giving. Here’s my story:
I initially went in for a visit in order to get some teeth implants. In order to get these implants, I needed to take out a couple teeth. However, before they even took them out, they said that I needed to get custom made dentures first. After finding out that the process would be too pricy, I called them the next day and told them that I wanted to cancel. They stated that the order was already sent in ($ 550) and that I was required to pay. So now I’m out 550 for something I would never use.
Now I would have just left it at that and go looking for a better, more trustworthy dentist but during that initial visit, they told me that they would fix my crown. Let me talk about my crown, a separate issue. You see, food kept getting stuck in there and they said that they would fix it free of charge (since I was getting the implants). This ended up being a huge mistake as they completely botched the operation. The next day, the crown completely fell off while I was eating so I called them in and they said that they would repair it. I went in and they used «cement» (in their own words) so that it would be completely stable. This did not fix the original problem (food continuously got stuck in my crown). In fact, this actually created a new problem: there was now a gap in between the tooth with the crown and it’s lower tooth counterpart. This process took another $ 220 out of my pocket (no longer free since I canceled the implants).
No longer trusting their services (for already charging me so much and because of their two botched crown jobs), I went to a different dentist and they had taken out the terribly installed crown (and quite painfully I might add because they really had it stuck in there). Looking for a refund (for the $ 220), I called Dr. Choi and explained to him my situation. I wanted to come back and show him what went wrong but he told me to not even bother. I quote: «please don’t even come near this area (in korean)».
Overall: please avoid this place. Perhaps they are nice and friendly at first but once something goes wrong, they will completely turn their back on you.

Dr. Choi is amazing !! He has transformed my smile more beautifully than I could’ve ever imagined ! Him and his staff are so friendly, I actually enjoy going to the dentist. I would recommend him for anything dental you need done! I honestly couldn’t be happier!

From the beginning to end of my appointment, I was met with professional and kind staff. From the moment I entered the office my anxieties were put at ease by their kindness. Dr choi was professional and so kind :). And of course, hygenist Anya was very thorough and great!!! thank you to the whole office for being so nice!

Gotta admit I was a freak about coming in. I have been missing lower tooth and have been told by several dentists I need tissue graph, bone graph and implants.
I’d been avoiding it for years but at this point had no other alternatives. I was a nervous wreck and Dr. Choi and his crew, always calm and patient to all my questions. I had the surgery done yesterday and barely feel any pain today!!! It was awesome!
Why was I such and chicken and why did I wait so long?

Dr Choi and his staff are amazing! I have been going to Smile by Design dentistry for years and had three implants and other major restorative work done by Dr Choi. I can attest that he is a very knowledgeable, highly skilled, meticulous, and friendly doctor. I have rarely experienced any pain in all of the implant procedures that I had which included gum surgery and bone graft, and the recovery was fast too. All of the staff members are also very friendly and polite, the office atmosphere is relaxing, and all of the equipment is state-​of-​the-​art. I had many problems with my teeth, so I tried numerous dentist doctors in the past but so far Dr Choi is the best doctor that I found!

Best dentist ever. The hygienists explain what they are doing while they do it, and… at 30+ years old, I was finally taught properly how to floss and why to floss the way you’re supposed to. Here I’d been flossing wrongly my whole life, and I never knew it. Oh, and the chairs have a massage mode, too, which is awesome! Very deluxe environment but a reasonable rate for services. Dr. Choi is honest and gentle. A perfect dentist!!! :D

Dr. Choi is professional, caring, gentle and sensitive. The office staff is also professional and friendly. The office itself is clean, modern and welcoming. Smile By Design is excellent in all that they do…

Dr. Choi is an amazing dentist. I’ve always dreaded going into an appointment fearing I’d come out with my gums all beat up from the cleanings and such but Dr. Choi is gentle and very talented in his approach. His friendly demeanor is also a great quality about him that gives me the confidence to go back. Overall his entire team is easy to approach and talk to and that’s a great addition to have when all you want to do is cancel with the dentist! :) they make is easy to go in and no longer dread the appointments!

Let’s just say I’m not a fan of the dentist, but than again who is? But my dental experience here was effortless and literally painless. I had to have a tooth extracted and it was the quickest extraction I’ve had with no pain. Thanks Dr. Choi and thank you Mary and Michelle, you guys are awesome!

Let me preface this review with the following: I hate dentists. I believe that they are all Nazi interrogators that ask, «Is it safe?» (watch Marathon Man, kids).
That being said, I actually felt as at ease as one can be in a dentist’s office. The staff is very warm and Michael is very friendly before he leads you into his interrogation room. The office accepts insurance (I hate places that don’t do their own billing and instantly black ball them), and Mary is excellent at working with you beforehand on line-​item pricing and payment options. She makes you almost feel comfortable paying for your indolence and neglect of your teeth.
I came in for veneers and am very happy with Dr. Choi’s work. His specialty is in cosmetic dentistry and it really shows. My veneers feel natural and look like a dentally diligent person’s teeth. Thanks to Michael, I am less insecure about myself (I guess I’m healthier too, or something; it’s really a secondary effect).

I still don’t remember exactly how I found Smile by Design, but one thing led to another and BOOM! Impacted wisdom teeth, gone! Also got a cleaning while I was there.
Very happy that I had no complications (other than chipmunk cheeks).
The office is clean and extremely nice, worked with me even though I’m extremely difficult getting scheduled (Sorry Michelle!), have a great super-​friendly team, and made me feel at ease though that was the single most miserable dental treatment that I’ve had to date. Definitely recommend!

After a rigorous and laborious search for a local Irvine dentist, I stumbled upon Smile by Design.
Work I got done:

Hygiene work
Both the hygienist and dentist were very affable and educational. It was a very comfortable, quick and enjoyable experience. I actually felt confident about my teeth after leaving the office. The work was pain free and professional.
I was impressed by the cleanliness, state of the art gadgetry and friendliness of the staff. I’d recommend this office to anyone looking for a great dental experience.

I’ve been searching for a dentist here on Unilocal for some time and found this clinic.
Picked it for 4 reasons:
— it seemed legit and highly rated (yet not overhyped)
— conveniently located
— I liked the name (yes, the word «smile» is very predisposing)
— and it accepts my insurance.
After being there 3 times I have even more reasons to like this clinic:
— super professional and friendly staff
— all work explained beforehand, and I am not pushed to anything I am not comfortable with
— I’m happy with all work performed thus far
— nice and clean facility
— charming administrators :)
So far I can say I plan to be a loyal client. And I do recommend this place to you if you’re looking for a great dentist and hygienist.
PS just the other day I spoke with my roommate after she visited another dental clinic also here in Irvine. She was so frustrated by people there (both doctor and staff) being very pushy and upselling work that supposedly needs to get done «right now». I can’t say same about Smile by Design. Which I think I already mentioned above.

Lovely staff from receptionists to the dental hygienist to the manager that gave me the financial consultation in her office at the end of my visit.
I came in for a simple teeth cleaning but left with a whole new ideal of dental visits. The dental hygienist was pleasant, very thoughtful, and did a great job talking me through the procedures/​explaining proper dental care. She took panoramic and individual X-​rays, did a gum test, then the cleaning. Summarized in one word: thorough.
then I was moved to one of the other chairs for my consultation with Dr. Choi.
Again, very thorough look at my teeth… with a camera to show me my own teeth on the screen in front of me too. Dr. Choi was patient with answering my questions and I’m not sure if he means to be. but I found him rather humorous.
The girls were very accommodating and beyond helpful with my new insurance. Oh and the dental hygienist also made sure to double check what my insurance covered so I didn’t leave with an unexpectedly large bill. All very much appreciated, especially since they did it without me even asking them to.
I had to return to fix some existing fillings and it was relatively quick and painless. Dr. Choi is up to date with all of equipments, technology, and procedures (as far as I can assume).
