After graduating from the nationally recognized University of Southern California, Dr. Shawn Loo has been practicing dentistry in the city of Irvine. Since then, he has been recognized as one of «America’s Top Dentist» in 2009 and nominated as one of the best general and cosmetic dentist in Orange and Los Angeles County by the «Best of LA» TV program.

Dr. Shawn Loo received his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of California at Irvine. While at UCI, he served as the academic chair for Lambda Theta Delta. Dr. Loo then attended the University of Southern California School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. After graduating, he served part time on the USC Restorative Faculty teaching the art of crowns, bridges, and cosmetic dentistry. He has also been an instructor for one of the world’s leading cosmetic centers that focuses on teaching other dentists how to perform smile makeover. In 2009, Dr. Loo was distinguished as one of «America’s Top Dentist.» Recently, he was also nominated as one of the best general and cosmetic dentist in Orange and Los Angeles County bye the «Best of LA» TV program. Dr. Loo’s main goal is to provide cutting edge dentistry including minimal preparation cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, and invisalign orthodontics.

This is one of the better experiences I’ve had with a dentist. Dr. Loo and his staff are awesome. They are always courteous, patient, and they’re always upbeat and friendly. Every time I’ve come in, I’ve had a great experience.
The waiting area is a bit small but everything is comfortable and clean. The staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and made sure to explain everything, and answer all of my questions and concerns.
My only complaint is probably that the hours overlap almost completely with my work hours but that goes for almost every dentist I’ve seen. Theresa is awesome with working with you to find a good appointment time, and following up to confirm/​remind. They’re pretty flexible and I’ve never had to wait too long.
A few other things:
–The office is not visible from the road but it’s there on the second floor of the plaza out back a little bit. There’s always parking spots available
–They take Cigna for insurance
–Dr. Loo, Jen, and Jen are great. They still do that thing where they try to hold a conversation with their tools in your mouth but I always look forward to interacting with them.
–Floss
I’m getting surgery for dental implants soon so hopefully this review brings me good teeth karma and everything goes smoothly (fingers crossed). But seriously, everyone is super cool here and I’d trust them on anything to do with teeth.

I was having a near death experience when I first visited Dr. Loo. I was in excruciating pain and had to undergo an immediate extraction. Dr. Loo and his staff were amazing. I felt comforted and secure. I had had extractions before, and I was dreading the pain during the extraction and after. I was amazed and surprised that one of Dr. Loo’s Dental Surgeons performed the extraction and an implant with absolutely no pain (of course I was given an anesthetic) I was waiting for the anesthetic to wear off, but Dr. Loo gave me antibiotics and painkillers (non drowsy, as I had to work the next day). I made an amazing recovery and I am so grateful to Dr. Loo.
Dr. Loo’s staff reflects him. Theresa at the front office is awesome with her bright smile and warm friendly personality. I absolutely love Jen one of Dr. Loo’s hygienists who now does regular maintenance work on my teeth (and gives me sound advice!)
Dental work could be costly, and I like that Dr. Loo was able to work with me on a payment plan. My 22 year old son goes to him too and we both feel secure in his hands. I would recommend Dr. Loo to anybody. He is friendly, compassionate, competent and sincere.

Very friendly staff. Dr. Loo and his hygienists are very knowledgeable and professional plus they are great with kids. My older son has been going for 2 years without any complaints. Just took my 3 year old for 1st time and he was comfortable and felt at ease and asked when he can go back. Dr. Loo is very thorough and takes time to answer any questions/​concerns instead of rushing from patient to patient. He really cares about his patients. Outstanding service, highly recommended!

Today I went to Dr. Loo’s office and saw his plaques for Top Dentists in Orange County & Los Angeles and I realized my husband and I aren’t the only ones who think he is the best Dentist around. Dr. Loo, is not only excellent at his profession but he is always so joyful and pleasant to spend time with! He has a special way of making me feel calm and relaxed even though I’m sitting in a Dentist chair, which in my case is no small feat… The entire staff in Dr. Loo’s office reflects his persona, which makes for a very pleasant, seamless and professional experience every single time! We’ve been seeing Dr. Loo for about 2 ½ years now and have never had anything but excellent treatment!

I was very impressed by Dr Shawn Loo and all of his dental staff who were very friendly, polite and professional. They made me feel very comfortable. The surgery itself is very modern and clean and they use the latest technology. Dr Loo was excellent and thorough and I never felt pressured at any time to have more work done than was necessary (like in some other surgeries). The finance discussion was very transparent and they explain everything to you very clearly, so there are no surprises. I would highly recommend this dental practice.

i highly recommend this dental office. i never have to wait past my scheduled appointment time, they are always running on time. i’ve had my teeth cleaned at a few dental offices and i continue to come back here because they are the most thorough. i had a crown and filling done here in the past with results i’m very happy with. i’ve never been recommended an unnecessary procedure or overcharged in any way.

This is the best Dentist I’ve ever gone to! The staff is so friendly and so caring! I couldn’t recommend them enough! They are very thorough but are also gentle. Everybody in there is great, but I love seeing Jennifer, the dental hygienist. They also give you the tastiest cookies on your way out!

I was asked to do this review. But, of course. Why wouldn’t I. I love it here and I really like Dr. Loo. He gave me some discount for my wedding and that was really kind of him.
If your considering it. GO! You won’t regret it. And the set up, the office, is nice and clean. The staff are super friendly. Take care of those teeth in a most comfortable way!

I highly recommend Distinctive Dental! Dr. Loo is an excellent dentist. He is very thorough, utilizes top of the line equipment/​technology, and he genuinely cares about his patients. Dr. Loo is excellent at dealing with all sorts of dental needs and the results of his work are fantastic! Also, the office staff at Distinctive Dental is extremely friendly and kind (and they don’t make you feel bad about going a little too long in between cleanings :). I recommend Jennifer for cleanings– she is a great dental hygienist! If you are looking for a new dentist, this is the place to go!

I cannot recommend Distinctive Dental enough. When a mom of 4 can come in and get her teeth cleaned and even relax while doing it, while her 4 children are also getting their teeth done… it’s a winner! They have a room for the kids to watch tv in and play and the staff took care of my kids needs while I got my teeth done. I always avoid going to appointments without my kids but fortunately I don’t have to do this for the dentist anymore.
I had previously had my kids going to a pediatric dentist and after a number of horrific experiences, including not being alerted to significant issues with my kids mouths, we changed to Dr. Loo. My kids love coming here and it has everything to do with the amazing staff! They love visiting Dr. Loo, seeing his fish and getting to visit with all the office staff. They remember our kids favorite things (tv shows, etc) and strive to make them enjoy their time there. Thank you to Dr. Loo and Distinctive Dental team for taking such great care of our family!

I am new to the area and was referred to this dentist by a friend. It was the best experience at a dentist’s office I have ever had. I have always hated going to the dentist, but Dr. Loo was excellent — both at explaining what we needed to do and the care he put into helping me out. I needed a crown and now that it’s all done, I can’t believe I waited that long. I feel great and and so thankful for how he and the whole team made me feel. Thanks to all of you and I look forward (imagine that) to coming back for a checkup!

I don’t often review places other than restaurants but this place is an exception. It’s not like the typical dental offices that rip you off. I have received a few cleanings from their excellent hygienist recently plus some fillings. Dr. Loo has always been honest about areas in my mouth that may be possible cavities in the future (they even show you on the monitor pictures of those potential developments it’s crazy!). Just this recent visit, one of the potential cavity areas did develop into a minor cavity, Dr. loo administered the local anesthetic with no pain and my face was half numb in no time. The filling was quick and painless and my bite still feels completely normal; the cleanings are excellent too. I’d definitely recommend coming to this office if you’re near the area looking for a hygienist and dentist.

My Destinctive Dental experience so far has been very positive. Dr. Loo and staff are just the right balance of personable and professional. I’ve had whitening and mouth guard fitting (for contact sports), and there were a few things that really made them stand out to me. They explain the procedure in understandable language, and in the case of the mouth guards, Dr. Loo took time to personally provide me with an overview of my options and providing me with his opinion what he believes is probably the best fit for my circumstance, and he did it in a no-​pressure way. The dental assistant, Crissy, who took the impressions, also did a great job both keeping me entertained with conversation and more importantly, taking great impressions without making me feel uncomfortable. I’ve always had a strong gag reflex, so it was great to have a skilled technician doing the work.
I’ve not had any major dental work performed at Distinctive Dental, but from the people I know who have had work done there, they’ve said only positive things as well.

No one likes going to the dentist. But since its one of those things that will make a big difference in the quality of your life, you might as well go to a good one. I have been going to Dr. Loo since he took over the practice 5 (or so) years ago. His staff is super, and I feel that he genuinely cares. He has done 2 crown replacements and both were perfect. My last visit was last Thurs for a cleaning, Jennifer was great. Highly recommended.

My family and I have been patients of Dr Loo for the past 5 years and we are very pleased with the treatment we have been receiving. The office is very hi-​tech with all latest equipment which ensures that you get excellent treatment. Not only is Dr. Loo a great dentist, he also runs a very efficient operation. I get prompt reminders and appointments and the entire staff works hard to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Their waiting room is well stacked with with magazines, but you barely get to enjoy them since the wait time is minimal. The front office staff (Especially Angie previously and Teresa now) works with you to make convenient appointments and are some of the most cheerful people I have met.

Dr. Loo replaced a couple crowns for me and did an excellent job! I had a crown put on before with a different dentist, which he did a great job, but it took several months to start feeling normal in my mouth. When Dr. Loo did my crown it was a perfect fit! The office is hi-​tech so you can see all the pics of your teeth while he explains what is going on with your teeth and gums. Dr. Loo and his staff are very professional, nice, and easy to talk to you. When I was going over the financial part with Teresa she was very helpful and easy to talk to.
I have gone back for a teeth cleaning with Jennifer and she really got in there and cleaned every crevice… I really didn’t want to eat for the rest of the day because they were so clean. I truly love everyone in this office… you need to make and appointment with them if your looking for a new dentist!

This is hands down the best dentist in the world. Everyone in the office is friendly and courteous. Angie is basically the best person ever. She remembers all the little details which shows how much she cares about and appreciates us patients.
Each hygienist is friendly, comforting, and best of all, GENTLE (they make every effort to make your cleaning comfortable and not painful in anyway) especially Jennifer. She is so kind and connects with her patients.
Dr. Loo is outstanding, he takes the time to explain everything in detail so you know what is happening and how the procedures go. He also pays very close attention to detail, so you know any procedure is done once and done RIGHT.
I cannot say enough good things about this practice! Trust me and try them out, I promise you will not be disappointed!
