Osprey Peak Bed & Breakfast

We visit Point Reyes frequently, but this was out first experience with Osprey Peak B&B. We stayed there 2 nights on our anniversary weekend. We stayed in the Woods Room, which has a private deck. The Japanese décor is quite nice. The location is up the hill in the woods. It’s very quiet and secluded. Perfect for our weekend getaway.
David and Nancy are great hosts. We were offered refreshments each evening and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at the feeders over a glass of wine. The breakfast was fantastic. They have so many options to choose from, but be careful or you’ll end up with too much food! On the morning of our anniversary, they even brought out a brownie with a candle to help our celebration. How sweet.
I would definitely recommend Osprey Peak B&B for a comfortable, quiet weekend at Point Reyes Seashore. I expect we will be visiting again in the not too distant future.

Above and beyond what I was hoping to find. Peaceful, beautiful, immaculate. Thoughtful hosts in a restful building in a lovely natural setting. It was so quiet that we could hear the hum of the hummingbirds visiting the feeder, and the quiet hoots of distant owls in the woods as we sat on the porch in the evening. The breakfast featured delicious homemade goods, local products (milk from a local dairy, baked goods from local bakeries) and fresh organic fruit. And Nancy and David have mastered being welcoming, warm, attentive and helpful without being overbearing or intrusive.

I honestly found this place because I wanted to stay in an area I had never been before. I was searching on Unilocal and then i found this place. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 7 year anniversary! This was our 1^st time staying at a bed & breakfast and it was the best experience any couple could have. I was reeled in initially by the Japanese inspired feel of the place.
When we arrived around 6 pm after driving about 3 hours from San Jose on a Friday, we were so excited to see how secluded it was. We were warmly greeted by David and given a tour of the place including the common area, the tea setup and our room with a private bath. Before David let us get comfortable he asked if we would like some refreshments of sparkling cider or wine and some fruit and cheese to snack on. We kindly accepted! The room was nice and spacious and on the desk were two sheets of paper for us to fill out what we wanted for breakfast the next morning. I love how organized and customizable it was. There were so many options!
That night we went to dinner at the local town of Point Reyes at Café Reyes. They had amazing oysters, pizza and local beer. Service was great as well.
The next morning we met Nancy at breakfast and another couple staying there. Breakfast was so DELICIOUS! I haven’t eaten such an amazing breakfast in quite some time. Fresh fruit, local bakery morning bun, cheese, homemade granola, peanut butter, almond butter, and amazing organic coffee!
That day we decided to go on a few adventures to Shell Beach and Point Reyes Lighthouse. Amazing views where ever we were. We also had dinner that night at Sir and Star at the Olema! GREAT prefix menu!
We had the luxury of staying 2 nights, so we had a second amazing breakfast! Some different choices to keep it interesting! AAMAZING!!!
All in all Nancy and David are the best! So personable, nice, warm and welcoming! We will definitely be back!

Beautiful accommodations, friendly welcoming and helpful hosts, pristine surroundings and delicious breakfast. Had the most relaxing weekend here with my husband. There is no doubt we will be back on our next trip to Point Reyes.

This place is a gem! My boyfriend and I could not have had a more relaxing weekend here. It so so beautiful and well taken care of. It feels like home away from home.

My husband and I just spent a few days here and experienced the most restful and lovely vacation we’ve had in years. David and Nancy have created a comfortable, understated, relaxing environment for their guests. They have thought of everything! They also strike the perfect balance between being present and helpful (bringing us a little snack when we came back hungry from a hike, lending us some special soap to make sure we cleaned off any possible exposure to poison oak) with allowing for quiet time and privacy. We loved the breakfasts — so delicious and generous! And the location can’t be topped, just a short drive to access points for the beautiful Pt. Reyes seashore. We will definitely be returning to this oasis soon.

We loved everything about Osprey’s Peak! Amazingly, it felt like we were in Japan. It’s secluded and away from the hub-​bub of visitors yet very close to the National Seashore, Tomales Bay and Inverness. David and Nancy are gems. We felt very taken care of in a completely unobtrusive way. Plus they serve the most delicious and thoughtful breakfast we could remember ever having at a B & B. A fantastic place to recharge and renew.

We stayed at Osprey Peak for my girlfriend’s birthday. It is the best bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. David and Nancy go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing stay and will make you enough delisioilus breakfast to feed a platoon (I strongly recomment their morning bun and their quinoa cereal with fresh fruit. They also surprised my girlfriend with brownies for her birthday.
The property itself is a beautiful and tranquil Japanese inspired cottage in the middle of the forest. It is close to all the hiking trails (we saw elk and went whale watching!) and an easy drive to town for dinner and other needs. The bed and air quality are amazing, so easy to lie around enjoying the sounds of nature.
Definitely wake up and watch the sunrise on their back porch. It is a magical experience sitting in the dark with your significant other with only the forest noises to keep you company. You will be visited by numerous hummingbirds stopping by to drink from the hummingbird feeders.
I could go on and on, but as someone who loves Point Reyes and visits frequently, I will not ever be staying anywhere else now that we discovered this hidden gem. Simply amazing and a must stay at least once in your life.

Osprey Peak B&B immerses you into a calm, immaculate and elegant zen-​like forest environment. It offers a scrumptious breakfast and in the afternoon some lovely snacks and tea. Inn keepers Nancy and David are attentive and gracious hosts who give careful attention to details to make your stay memorable.
If you are looking for a retreat from everyday life, this is a perfect get away. Nancy even baked delicious chocolate cupcakes to help celebrate my birthday!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in the fall and it was such an amazing time. Our room came with the necessary bathing amenities (soap, shampoo, conditioner) and freshly made linens each day. They even provided some female care products, which was super nice of them! Our breakfast menu would arrive the afternoon before and we had plenty to pick and choose over as much or as little as we cared for. There were to-​go boxes available for when we had too much and made such an awesome hiking snack! Fresh beverages were available in the morning (also part of the breakfast menu) and provided something deliciously hot to sip while watching the hummingbirds zip around the patio! We were graciously offered afternoon tea when we returned from our walks and it was such a pleasant way to wind down from a dusty trail! The walls were a little thin next to the rooms and we could hear murmuring from the guests next door, but this was never a problem.
Osprey Peak Bed & Breakfast is amazing! It’s close by to Saltwater and Marin Sun Farms and the Bovine Bakery! The wilderness is so very present and the calm sits quietly in the air. WOULD GO AGAIN, A+++++++++

If tranquility, attention to detail and an excellent breakfast are what you’re after, look no further than Osprey Peak.
David is an informative, helpful host (we did not meet his wife), who also respects his guests’ privacy. He greeted us warmly when we arrived, showed us our room and gave each of us an individualized menu for the next morning’s breakfast, which we needed to fill out and leave for him by 9pm. We could also pick our breakfast time, between 8−10am, which was nice. In the morning, there was a note under our door saying tea and juice were available until our breakfast was ready at 9am, the time we chose. Breakfast was fresh and delicious.
David was particularly helpful in helping us plan our day of hiking, etc… And he clued us in to arrangements we needed to make to pay the toll in advance of crossing the Golden Gate Bridge when we headed back to San Francisco.
We can’t wait to return.

We stayed here for 2 nights last year, and would love to come back. The house is tucked away in the hills, surrounded by trees. It’s a really quiet and serene place, and there’s only 2 bedrooms, so book it early. David and Nancy were wonderful hosts, as was Mr. Yogi Bear – he may have been the highlight of our stay :)
David was very responsive with emails, and the booking process went smoothly. I had asked for something ‘special’ upon arrival, as we were celebrating an anniversary. They provided us with a dozen roses, fresh fruit, and fresh tea in our room. It was a really nice touch that I appreciated.
Every time we returned from a hike or dinner, we had cookies waiting for us, and they brought us freshly brewed tea. Of course, the breakfast was delicious, fresh and beautiful. Sitting in the patio with the hummingbirds buzzing away was a delight! I’ve never been surrounded by so many hummies!
There are plenty of dining options in downtown, and I recommend a trip to Cowgirl Creamery for ice cream and cheese. We ate at Osteria Stellina (reservations rec’d) for dinner one night as recommended by the hosts. In fact, they have a huge list of recommended restaurants/​delis they will send you when you book the place. No need to worry about anything if you’re not really a ‘planner’ – they are super helpful with anything you need.
Some tips if you decide to go: walls are a little thin, so if you have a loud snorer in the next room and you’re a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. They don’t provide body lotion (they have everything else), so bring that if you lotion up after showers. Enjoy your stay!

A halfway hybrid between Japanese guest house and Marin County getaway, OPBB is an expertly polished gem in about as intimate a location as you could possibly imagine. Just a few rooms, $ 200 average a night, and twice as much restfulness as you are likely to encounter anywhere else. It’s in Inverness, of course, so the location exudes natural beauty and rustic chic bliss, but there is more here than location. There are unique human touches, quirks of personality, places of interest, memories of time past. Think Marcel Proust meets John Muir, with a Japanese twist, and you’ll be getting close to the heart of the matter.
I suppose that OPBB is an exclusive sort of location. After all, with only two rooms (more are being planned for the downstairs, I have been told), and with an access road that has more twists and turns than your average mystery novel, it’s not going to have mass appeal. But hardly anyone who has stayed here seems to have left with anything other than 5-​star memories. The natural environment has a lot to do with that, but so too do the proprietors, who have somehow distilled lifetimes of experience into the very woodwork of their secluded sanctuary. It’s not exactly a world unto itself, but it’s off the beaten path, for sure.
Having a world-​class restaurant like Saltwater nearby is a major plus. And as for Point Reyes itself, with its beaches and cliffs and sweet-​smelling fields and meadows … well, let’s just say that life truly begins on the other side of the San Andreas fault. On one side is the enormous North American plate, with its manifold fallacies, flaws, and fissures. On the other side is a sylvan sliver of forest, ocean, waves, and endless tranquility.
Guess which side Osprey Peak is on?

Um… wow.
So this is my 700^th review, and I wanted #700 to be a five star experience. Osprey Peak is that experience.
My wife and I had our second anniversary this past November. How she has put up with me for that long, I will never know. But since we’re planning on two big trips to Asia in 2013, we didn’t want to splurge and we wanted to stay local. My wife found Osprey Peak, and after reading all the Unilocal reviews, managed to snag us a two night stay.
And it was pretty incredible.
The two days we spent at Osprey Peak were two of the most relaxing days I can remember. David and Nancy were gracious hosts, and my wife and I, both dog lovers, fell in love with their dog, a totally adorable shar pei. David brought us tea both nights in genuine tetsubin teapots from Japan. The tea selection is kind of amazing, and my wife enjoyed the herbal selections in particular. They also had some cheese and fruit with crème fraîche waiting for us on arrival.
Breakfasts were delicious; yogurt, fresh bread, grains, excellent coffee. The porch area is inundated (in a good way) with hummingbirds in the morning. To sit out there and watch the birds and drink coffee is a pretty calming experience.
If you have the time, means, and inclination, I highly recommend staying a night or two with David and Nancy. You won’t regret it.

A magical experience. The best B & B I have seen. I am almost hesitant to post about it because I want to be able to get a reservation! David and Nancy are not only professional, they are special people I am glad to have met.

Our stay at Osprey’s Peak Bed and Breakfast was everything we expected and more. The innkeepers were friendly, yet completely unobtrusive. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Escaping to this Japanese farmhouse was completely relaxing… Yukata’s are left in the room for your use, tea may be served on your arrival, fresh local juices, jellies, cheese and breads are a wonderful addition to breakfast AND the beauty of Marin is just outside your window. We have honestly not experienced a better night’s sleep in years! The peacefulness cannot be explained but must be experienced! There are maps to special sites, for hikes and other activities around the area. You will struggle to find a BnB better than Osprey’s Peak. We don’t return to many places, but we have decided to make this an annual trip — but we will add the Japanese bath on the next trip and an additional night!
On this trip — we went to the beach, the lighthouse and Cowgirl Creamery (in our opinion some of the best cheese in the US is located here)…next up Petaluma!

What you can expect staying at Osprey Peak B&B:
Surroundings: Blissfully quiet surroundings, you’ll hear calming rustling sound of the wind blowing through the woods. The immediate hillside blanketed in lush green grass, wild purple iris, wild calla lily and various wild flowers. Babbling brook is just a short walk down the drive way. One of my favorite things to do at OP is to sit outside and breathe in the clean and crisp stillness and get in tune with the surroundings.
Osprey Peak: I appreciate OP’s simple elegance of the Japanese aesthetics. Things are organized, not cluttered. Modern (but not overly so) and not «antiqued». Nancy’s artwork around the house created a beautiful synergy between the house itself and the surrounding environment outside. OP has little touches that makes up its unique personality– smooth dark river stones on the front door bench, the hummingbird feeder on the porch that attract quite a crowd, a good selection of books on the shelf, Nancy’s artistic flower decoration in the house.
Hosts: Dave and Nancy are such gracious hosts that we feel so welcomed as their guests it felt like we’re staying at a friend/​family place! In fact, they created such a welcoming environment– most of the days we left our door leading to the house open/​unlocked and think nothing of it. Dave and Nancy also treated us with everything we could think of, for a stay-​in dinner the table was set for us complete with silverware, place mats, plates and napkins. Dave and Nancy also insist on indulging us in every thing we requested and more: such as our favorite German Chocolate Roobios Tea in the afternoon that we just cant get enough of.
Delightful treats!: One of our favorite activity to do in the afternoon is to fill out what we want to have for breakfast the next morning. The expansive menu has delicious selection of tea, milk (and alternatives), juice, local bread (try the toasty morning bun!), yogurt, granola, hot cereal (quinoa is great) and the most fabulous breakfast cheese I ever had. AND in the afternoon, Dave and Nancy refresh your spirit with light tea snacks (such as scones or the delicious home-​made energy balls) and fabulous caffeine free tea.
Part of the family: You’ll see wild animals (we saw a pack of deer munching away at the front yard in the morning) outside, hummingbirds gather around the porch, then perhaps if you’re lucky you’ll meet the adorable Yogi, Dave and Nancy’s 6^th Sharpei– who loves meet the guests and also guards the entrances. And the black kitty who likes to come out and greet the guests and cuddle up.
Osprey Peak B&B was a lovely sanctuary and it did feel like «home» after just a short few days. I would highly recommend this place and would likely to return soon!

I’m almost as glad to be writing this review as I was to be staying at Osprey Peak. Okay, that’s not really true. But I’m really, really glad to be writing this review. Not only do I get to mentally relive the weekend I had there, but I get to perhaps direct other weary Unilocalers to Osprey Peak for what I can assure you will be a peaceful, revitalizing, and (at times) tasty time.
As my boyfriend and I rode up to Point Reyes, we passed many other bed and breakfast places. Each was more quaint and charming than the last, and I actually had the thought, «Wait — did we pick the right one?» And then we turned off the paved road into the wilderness, all the way up the private drive to Osprey Peak, and we realized that we were in for something truly special. The area around Osprey Peak is full of beauty and serenity, and I consider it to be a place that is really in harmony with its environs. With only two rooms available and a simple, elegant décor full of Japanese undertones, it really embodies the idea that less is more (until breakfast, when more is more — but I’ll get to that later).
My boyfriend and I stayed in the Pacific Room, which had a beautiful high, sloping ceiling, and huge windows out into the yard below. The bed was cozy and, while the room was equipped with an extra fuzzy blanket (I loved that thing!), I have never needed it less. The huge, fluffy bedspread is unquestionably the warmest blanket beneath which I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping. I was almost too warm. As a person who is nearly always chilled, this is not an experience I have ever had. As such, I relished every moment of heat-​filled splendor. But you can certainly crack the window if you’re, you know, a normal and hot-​blooded human being.
The breakfasts — I don’t even know where to start. The thought of them makes my stomach want to simultaneously rumble and burst. Each afternoon we were given a menu, and told to check off anything we wanted. I am not ashamed to admit that we went a little crazy. But the food served at Osprey Peak is good, (mostly) good for you, and good for the environment and local economy! Everything selected is fresh and local, with a focus on the light and healthy, too. We were offered oatmeal, granola, breakfast quinoa, a breakfast rice blend, fresh-​baked bread, locally made butter and cheese-​spreads, fresh fruit, and an assortment of teas. We were also offered a breakfast bun from Bovine Bakery, which was a mouth-​meltingly, mind-​blowingly awesome splurge. We had a little of everything. Except when we had a lot of everything.
Afternoon tea was a similarly decadent affair, if only because I’m just not used to having afternoon tea. A cute little tea tray showed up outside our bedroom door featuring one of many varieties of extremely high-​quality tea, and a little snack as well. Our snack was always «energy balls,» because those things are impressive little hand-​rolled bundles of joy full of nuts and seeds and chocolate and hopes and dreams, but I’m sure there are other wonders that await. You also don’t have to have tea, if sparkling cider and wine may be more to your liking.
If it’s not clear to you by now, David and Nancy are fantastic hosts. They’re friendly, informative, and added so many little touches to make our stay comfortable and memorable. They were excellent resources for hiking and dining, and they also left many guidebooks and menus around for our perusal. They also had games and books for fun, too, and my boyfriend and I had fun lazing about and playing War or messing around with the Magic Eye book. And if you like dogs, see if you can get Yogi to make an appearance. He’s David and Nancy’s Sharpei, and is currently enjoying his golden years. He will give you his approval and then proceed to lumpishly enjoy all that those particular years have to offer. He is awesome.
Perhaps the very best part was my «revitalizing bath.» I spent just a little extra money and was able to soak for as long as I liked in a tub full of super steamy water and aromatherapy oils. And I did. I just lied there forever, in water that magically stayed hot for completely unreasonable lengths of time. While I slept well at Osprey Peak, the sleep I had the evening after that bath was the best I’ve had in years.
The only downside to this whole experience was that I was afraid I might not get to go back! My boyfriend and I thus vowed to return in a few months. My very first bed and breakfast experience, it has both awakened in me a thirst for more, and probably spoiled me so badly that other bed and breakfasts just won’t seem the same. But, you know? It feels good to be spoiled.

This is the ONLY place to stay in Pt Reyes!!!
My girlfriend and I were looking for a peaceful setting we could go for a couple of days after the crazy holidays (it was also our anniversary). We wanted to find somewhere we could read, hang out, or head out from to do day-​hikes. We so very fortunately happened upon Osprey Peak…
HOSTS — An endearing couple (David and Nancy) who sincerely want you to have the best experience you can while staying with them. A wealth of local knowledge, yet very accommodating to your privacy.
HOME — It is a simple, beautiful zen-​like cabin at the top of a wooded hill in the most tranquil setting with 2 guest rooms.
ROOM — Very clean and streamlined with nice touches including iPod dock (with iPod), writing desk and a nice bathroom.
FOOD — DELICIOUS local ingredients including Strauss Creamery and Pt Reyes Farmstead Cheese accompanying local bread and an array of fruit. Note the evening tea service photo as well.
PRICE — Very, very reasonable. In fact, don’t let the great price worry you. It may seem too good to be true, but it is true.
NATURE — Absolutely gorgeous. Pt Reyes is remote and peaceful (the cows can keep you company). The hiking is extensive and the views are worth it. Make sure to go up to Mt. Vision and also hike out to Chimney Rock. Wow.
TOWN — Pt Reyes Station is only a few miles away and has, among other things, a great bookstore (Pt Reyes Books), a very legitimate restaurant (Stellina), and Cowgirl Creamery.
BONUS — Nancy also offers cranialsacral therapy and vitamin/​mineral soaking sessions.
This place is a real gem and we can’t wait to return someday!
