This has been my experience with Carlos Compost, the proprietor of Widows Handyman. I am residing as the caretaker for a beach house on behalf of a third party. This is our mutual experience. Mr. Campos, missed the first three appointments after the initial consultation. After the 2nd missed appointment, we hadn’t heard from him until the following week. We rescheduled for a Wednesday, after 2pm. The home owner contacted him after 3pm. He replied, stating he was picking up materials. At 6:30 pm, he called once again. I told him, that I’d contact the home owner and get back to him. Within the following days, he tried to place the responsibility of the situation on my shoulders. After confronting him, he told the home owner, that his aunt had passed on. She gave him a last chance. He quoted her, $ 65 an hour for the various jobs. Her and I both had stressed, no cosmetic work was to be done. Safety at this point, was our only concern. They worked Wednesday through Friday, 8am until approximately 4pm. The majority of work hours were performed by a very diligent laborer and his very sweet wife, whom assisted when she could. Carlos was mostly on the road, «picking up supplies». Half way into the various projects, I noticed cosmetic dry wall work being performed in the stair well. I assumed the home owner, gave the go ahead. I came to find out, she had not been informed of this add on project, let alone, given permission. The work was to be completed this past Monday. The laborers were unavailable. They were to complete the job today. At some point on Monday he requested payment. Due to his original quote, we were under the impression that she would be billed for the price he stated at $ 65 an hour. He billed her for 48 hours. They had actually worked 24 hours. Apparently, to Mr. Compos, this was billed per person per hour. This was not specified from the beginning. He assumed this should be inferred. He was also stating to the home owner that he was billing for hours yet to be worked and this would take a minimum of 3 more days. He told me on Friday, that it would be finished yesterday, on Monday. At that juncture she dismissed him from the completion of the job. His business ethics are vague, ambiguous and confusing to those that know better. Perhaps, this is the reason he markets his company to unsuspecting widows. They are trusting and seeking help towards homecare that they do not understand. They could be very easy targets for someone with self serving motives. Unfortunately for The Widows Handyman, his true colors shine through towards the less naïve. We are also far more internet savvy. If these poor, gentle widows are dealt with in the same manner we were, God help this man’s soul. The weak shall inherit the earth.
