Keigo’s Japanese Take Out

Owners are adorable and were kind enough to open up an hour early for us when we showed up on a Sunday. Food is great and authentic. Great prices.

My condolences to the Saeki family. My wife and I have frequented Keigo’s for the past couple of years, always ordering the same thing– their bento boxes. Keigo’s bento boxes were freshly prepared by the husband and wife team– one of the best bento places in the OC area. I stopped by Keigo’s the week of New Year’s and found that the store was closed. At first I thought Keigo’s had closed for the holidays, but I just saw the news on Unilocal.HB lost a great restaurant and chef.

I used to frequent this place when I was working nearby. I returned not too long ago, only to find out that this place was closed.
They had the best. i mean THE BEST crab croquettes I have ever had. I shall never get to try it again. EVER…

This place sucks 90 percent of my roll was filled with vegetable (lettuce, cucumber, carrots). It was suppose to be a crunchy roll. There isn’t suppose to be a freaking salad in my roll.

Really small and family ran, Keigo’s is A-​OK in my book. The food is good. I’ve never seen this before but I’ll definitely try the Chicken Nanban next. Seems mighty tasty and interesting. I had the Chicken Katsu and it was delightful. I noticed on the wall some newspaper articles and they seem to be active in supporting the HB local culture. And if I remember right, one of them (hell, maybe even just one article… I’ll have to update ASAP) was about a cause for philantrophy. +1
I’m tempted to give you a 4 star. Soon…

I’m a creature of habit. I’ve tried several items on the menu, but my favorite is mabo tofu. I really like the fact that the owner knows me by name.

It’s across street from Golden West College, close to Wendy’s. It’s a tiny family own biz. The owner and his son are cool. Mom is super nice, too. Nothing fancy décor, but it’s kept neat. My BFF used to work with his dad and took me here.

All the menu are very homie, though they got some cut rolls. The owner used to be a sushi chef, so the sushi looked very clean. We tried for lunch, and good price and decent portion.
Teriyaki chicken: Well cooked, great portion.
Udon: Good. Homie flavor.

3.5 stars overall. It’s very decent if you crave for Japanese foods around here. Very friendly service.

Found in a rather deserted strip mall, close to Wendy’s and Toy’s R US, and next to a bead store, this place was in such an awkward location, where I believe it was the only restaurant on that side of the plaza. At any rate, we had a sushi roll combo and a salmon dish. It was underwhelming and tiny. Got to say we were still hungry, so we went to our go to spot, Toyko Deli. This place is family owned and rather drab in the inside. When we went, we were the only ones dining in. Hence the name, most of the customers, took their orders to go.

Although hidden, but a good treasure.
Sure the price is a lil high for my liking but hey it’s business.
Food is good so far as I’ve been there twice in one week. Their pork cutlets like the previous review was really good! The other time I went was I had the chicken karaage, which was great too!
The lady @ the counter was friendly as well! Lovvvve her! I’m going to Japan this summer and I was trying to practice my Japanese w/​her and she was nice about it.
The inside had a home feeling to it, like a genuine Mom and Pop shop in Asia. I guess it had a nostalgia feeling. Very clean too.
I hope to visit again! I could eat here everyday. :)

I’ve been going to this place for months, thanks to Unilocal.I love the food and have been trying many of their dishes. Everything I have tried is VERY good and I look forward to going there soon!

My aunt introduced me to this place, and she comes often, so the owner, Machiko, always greets us when we come together, or when I’m there alone.
I’m from Hawaii, and a japanese food is very prevalent, and a part of our culture… it’s SO hard to find a good, authentic Japanese take-​out place here in California. esp ones actually owned and run by Japanese people. Whenever I get homesick, I come here to satisfy my hunger from some good ‘ol japanese plate lunches/​dinners!!!
Their ton katsu curry is AMAZING (pork katsu with curry, rice, some steamed veggies, and pickled radish).esp. good to eat when you’re feeling under the weather with that right amount of spice to it!
Also their salmon shioyaki, chicken katsu, and pork katsu plates are really good as well. The plates come with a big ass scoop of rice, your main dish, a salad with the BEST salad dressing ever (I think they make it themselves), and a mini scoop of potato salad… the udon is pretty good, but I have yet to try their soba, or other noodle dishes. im sure they’re just as amazing!
Prices are reasonable, and everything is made to order, right on the spot, so it’s FRESH. Because of this, you might have a little bit of a wait, but it’s TOTALLY worth it. It is in a random area… and ALL the way back into the parking lot from the main street… but check it out! You’ll love it :) THe owners are great, hard working people and take pride of what they do… and those are always the best places to go to :)
PS-​While you wait, they have newspapers, and random japanese pet-​owner magazines, decorations, music, and cute articles about animals. the owner LOVES animals, and has all kinds stuff to read about them. it’s so adorable, lol. kind of random, but thought i would add that in!
AND in response to Andrew D’s review about the teriyaki… the thinner, gravy teriyaki sauce that they use (and usually thin slices of meat), is the more authentic, traditional way of teriyaki. when you go to so called, «hawaiian food» or «japanese» restaurants here in the mainland, what you usually get is THICK goopy-​like teriyaki sauce… which isnt a bad thing, but it’s not as authentic. I’d say Keigo’s is very authentic Japanese take-​out!

This place is hidden in a drab shopping center near a bead store. (For Christ’s sake…)
Two classmates and I walked here after our lecture and had lunch. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and tempura plate for $ 6 – 7. It came with a big scoop of rice, salad, and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were good; not watery or thick either. My classmates got chicken katsu and chicken karaage plates.
Speaking of which, this is the only fast food Japanese place I’ve found that offers chicken karaage.
The setting is kind of drab like the area. But the customer service is good and they have cute pictures and newspaper cuttings of stories on their wall.

Buried across a big parking lot directly south from Goldenwest College. Air conditioning seemed to be out. Totally empty at 12pm on a Saturday afternoon. Food came out quick, and we enjoyed it. It’s very plain on the inside, not a whole lot of ambiance. Then again, you’re going for the speedy Japanese food, and that’s whatcha get.
I’d have to guess that during the week this place is packed with traffic from the college. If we are in the area again, we’ll stop by.

This place is a great little hidden treasure. I’m a student at Golden West College and it’s right across the street. Great prices, quick and wonderful food. Call it in when I’m leaving work and pick it up on my way to class. Get a cheap but good meal. Don’t be shy because it’s pretty authentic so give something a try you normally wouldn’t.

This place is horrible. The price is nothing amazing. Around what you would pay at most to go Japanese place. But the food was disgusting.
I got the teriyaki chicken bowl, something that is very hard to go wrong with. But it was horrible. The meat was poor quality, even for dark meat. The teriyaki sauce was a gravy texture. Not liquid or thick like you would expect.
On top of that I go the spicy tuna roll. It was well presented but had no taste to it at all. It was like eating fish paste with a hit of heat every so often.
I don’t know if the people that like this place have an extremely low standard of Japanese food or maybe this truely is authentic and I been having fake Japanese food ever since. But this is some of the worst food I have had in general.

I go here with my b/​f atleast once a week. Everyone there is extremely friendly and the food is awesome. We usually get the chicken bowl, chicken curry udon, or chicken tempura combo, do you see the theme here? We love our chicken and Keigo’s makes it just right, always tender and flavorful. Can’t leave this place without getting some CA rolls, theirs are so to die for. I can’t stand Japanese take out places that premake their CA rolls and refridgerate them ewww! Everything at Keigo’s is made to order. We usually spend about $ 5-​$ 7 per person.

I am on a mission to find a great Japanese takeout nearby my house. Why you ask? The quality of my usual takeout has just gone south. So I have started using Unilocal to help me satisfy my craving. I am off to a rocky start.
I went to Keigo’s last night and order what I would normally order. Chicken teriyaki and tempura. ($ 5.95) The misses had the salmon and tempura ($ 6.10). The chicken serving was on the small side, has nice smoky and sweet taste. The salmon was awfully small and dry. The tempura here is on the better side, tasted fresh and crunchy. Both comes with a small miso infused salad and big scoop of rice.
It just wasn’t satisfying due to the small servings. This place closes at 8pm so don’t come here too late.

As far as bang for the buck goes, it’s definitely worth the price. The food served is a steal for the pricing. I’ve had the katsu curry and the hamburger steak there and it hit the spot. Perfect for a light lunch. It won’t be the best you’ve ever tasted, but it will definitely be the best you’ve had for under $ 6.
