I left McLean for a few weeks, and prepaid my gardener for the work he was supposed to perform, and had been rather mediocrely performing for two years. You know how it is with gardeners, most of them are like a tepid relationship… not good enough to stay, but not bad enough to leave.
I rolled into town ten days early, and nearly drove past my own house. Surely this tangle of weeds and leaves and brambles, oh my! wasn’t my own front yard. There had to be a good reason for the swaying wheat field that had somehow replaced my lawn.
As I was puling into my driveway, my gardener rolled up to the house next door to mow. He was as shocked to see me as I was to see the work he HADN“T been doing that he had been paid for. It was like that awkward love triangle bit in old Woody Allen movies.
I found K&K on a neighborhood listserv and called Alyssa immediately. She and Kris were at my house a few hours later, and not one, not two, but THREE trucks and a team of 5 people showed up to rake and blow leaves, mow grass, pull weeds, clear branches, and set planting beds for autumn and winter. They even helped repot some urns around the pool and driveway, and moved a 6 foot tall plant back into the house for winter. In four hours, we went from Madmax/​Thunderdome lawn back to the wonderfully Stepford manicure that I know and love so dearly. Too dearly.
Call these guys. They’re decent. Humble. Knowledgeable. And they’ll show your kids that those softball sized fruits falling from the sky aren’t in fact bludgeons but walnuts that can be roasted. Huh. Who knew.
