West University Wellness

This place was OK. I’ve been to much better acupuncturists with far less of a rushed atmosphere. I also felt like I was pushed into getting adjustments instead of acupuncture and was not a fan at all.

My experience at West University Wellness has been absolutely fantastic. I started seeing Dr. Petitclerc during my second trimester and I’m into my third trimester now. My back and hip pain has improved tremendously. I rarely have any pain anymore. The combination of adjustments and massage therapy has worked wonders in helping me take care of three young children with a fourth on the way.
The office is extremely kid friendly and has a wonderful play space, the staff is easy to work with and handles all insurance issues/​billing promptly, and everyone is very accommodating to expectant moms. I would highly recommend that anyone who is expecting see Dr. Petitclerc to help with pregnancy pains and to achieve optimal alignment before delivery.
I plan to continue to see Dr. Petitclerc after delivery to help the healing process as my body recovers from delivery.

Admittedly I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I am an MD who had never been to a chiropractor until this past April and I didn’t know what I was missing.
I originally came to WUW for my neck. Training for an Ironman took its toll on my body. I had a number of chronic use injuries that limited my cycling. Not only did Dr. Long correct my neck, which was my most active problem, she adjusted my lower back in the process. Until then, it had been 15 years since I had been able to sit on the ground for longer than two minutes — a result of my back being misaligned. I had accepted it as part of being me — it no longer is.
Dr. Long also specializes in acupuncture, a service I found beneficial. In addition, WUW provides excellent massage therapy. Being an endurance athlete, I need repeated body work and have gone to a number of massage therapists throughout the city. Karen is by far the best I’ve come across and now I see her routinely.
And lastly, to my pleasant surprise, WUW was able to work with my insurance to cover all my appointments and procedures. An added bonus as I was willing to pay out of pocket for the excellent services they provide.
I highly recommend Dr. Long and WUW. They are now part of my routine to keep me healthy for years to come.

West University Wellness is a well-​thought-​out clinic – reserved parking spaces are available just outside, both the waiting area & exam room are child-​friendly, & it even boasts a lactation room. Appointments are easy to obtain, & chiropractic care here is covered by most major insurers with a referral. My chiropractor is Caroline Long
I’m lopsided – everything about me leans & twists to the left. This was especially a problem when I was pregnant with my son, & later my twin daughters. Silly me, I’d even followed NHS’s advice about left-​side lying, when pregnant with my little son. He wound up on my far left-​hand side. Worse still, when in labor, the community midwives in our working-​class London neighborhood forced me to lie on my left side. I was in labor for 2 ½ days straight.
Happily, I started seeing Dr. Long during the last month of my pregnancy with my twin daughters. With her help, I was able to keep up my active lifestyle until the end of my pregnancy, as described in my Previous Review. Dr. Long shifted my babies to my right, & the varicose veins I’d developed on my left side stopped worsening. More importantly, she helped my little ones position themselves so optimally that I was fully dilated in labor in ~3 ½ hours. She also eased my pain.
After our girls were born, I had 3 little ones to care for, and soon enough, to chase around; 3 little ones to pick up; and 3 little ones to carry around. And I did carry all 3 of them, tandem, once in a while. More usually, though, just our girls. I carried them, on my far right-​hand side (1 in the front, 1 in the back) through Central Market, once a week… and around the house, down the street, & through the park, for the first 2 years of their lives. And my back held up – until the day it snapped completely. It went out again a few days later.
So I returned to see Dr. Long. I confessed to her that I suspected myself to be crooked. Dr. Long examined me and confirmed that my left leg is shorter than my right, and so I list to the left. She adjusted me too, of course. After the first session I felt completely out of whack. But after the second session, my back felt stronger than it had before. And after the third session, my back felt unlikely to go out again. I was all but free of pain, too.
Better still, Dr. Long taught me to use pelvic wedges to help me keep my back in alignment. She even took & emailed me a pic of myself with the wedges in the correct positions, so I’d be able to configure them, myself, at home. In other words, Dr. Long taught me how to go for longer, before needing her services. That’s integrity.
Unlike the last time I visited West University Wellness, Dr. Long did want me to see her, again for another adjustment. She didn’t push it, though, which was a relief, because, frankly, we just haven’t the money. My 3 appointments with her had to be good enough. And miraculously, they have been. I last saw Dr. Long 4 months ago, and I’m still free of pain & going strong. Her bedside manner is so brilliant, I almost wish I needed to see Dr. Long again. She never fails to put me & my little ones at ease. And we always have the loveliest chats.
In short, West University Wellness is an intelligently-​designed & run clinic, & Caroline Long is an intelligent choice for a chiropractor – capable but gentle, trustworthy, & a joy to work with.

I would not have made it through my pregnancy without this place! I had horrible lower back pain during my pregnancy to the point that I was barely able to walk. Dr. Ploy made it possible for me to be comfortable through the entire 9 month period, even after little one caused damage to my ribcage. I truly believe that much of the reason I was able to have my ten pound baby boy naturally was due to West University Wellness. Five stars, hands down!

Dr. Ploy saved our lives! (Well she didn’t actually SAVE our lives, but she IS amazing.) Here is the thing, I have a rather cranky 3 month old guy. He had a tongue tie and a lip tie that we had corrected, and I was encouraged to take him to a chiropractor and or a craniosacral therapist. I honestly just took the advice without much research, and had no opinion of the benefits of chiropractic work. But, since my baby was crying for a few hours a day (even after the tongue tie was fixed!), I would try anything. I am also new to the area, so I asked around and West U Wellness was recommended to me. When I called to make an appt, and we were scheduled with Dr. Ploy. We went to the appt and I had no idea what to expect. Dr. Ploy was super nice and easy to talk to about what issues he had going on. Then, she worked on him for maybe 10 minutes. He squirmed a little, cried a little, and she was done. I asked what I should expect from him, she told he might sleep a little longer than usual and maybe have some bowel movements. She did not prepare me for what actually did happen! There was an immediate shift in my cranky baby. He wasn’t cranky anymore. It snuck up on me. I noticed the changes almost by accident. He wasn’t clicking while nursing. He wasn’t as congested. He wasn’t uncomfortable after nursing. He was a new man! We have had 5 appts as of now, and I never want to stop going. Dr. Ploy is a miracle worker. She has facilitated huge changes in a baby that my pediatrician dismissed as just ‘colicky’. And the changes have come from visits that are just minutes long, and neither my son or I even realize she is working on him! If you have a baby who cries a lot or seems refluxy or cranky, I suggest that you see Dr. Ploy and revel in the cry-​less times that will likely follow.

Dr. Long, Dr. Yeager and the whole staff are amazing. I have been going for there for 7 years and they have helped with 4 pregnancies. Acupuncture and adjustments made pregnancy and labor so much easier! We have started taking our 2 year old for adjustments to help with fluid in the ears and to avoid tubes. I Always recommend west U wellness to my friends even though we live 25 minutes away now!

When I moved to Houston over four years ago I found Dr. Yeager within a few months of arrival. He has provided insightful, progressive treatment for various issues I have had over the past four years. The service is professional, caring, and very effective.
I have chronic back issues from childhood scoliosis and Dr. Yeager helped me with pinpointed treatment. He also does accupuncture.
When I was training for half marathons I went to Dr. Yeager for knee and hip pain and added exercises to help me build strength.
Dr. Yeager treated me all through recovery of a car accident three years ago.
While pregnant he helped with treatment specific for back pain and leg numbness. I also saw Dr. Long for pelvic adjustments.
My infant son sees Dr. Long. She is fantastic with him and helps him feel at ease with the chiropractic treatment. She helped correct tight neck issues, and a flat head from sleeping facing one direction. She also helped him through a long bout with a chest cold/​RSV.
Most recently I had back surgery and they supported me both before and after the surgery and even helped me carry my son to and from my car.
I love Alex for massages though she had moved away for now.
The front desk staff and the technicians are all so friendly. They take their time with me and smile!
Francesca the office manager is great with figuring out insurance and fixing and times the insurance messes up. She pays prompt refunds on overpayments. They take my FSA card.
The waiting room is comfortable, has tea and water, and I often run into someone else I know! There is a play area for kids and a very useful diaper changing station in the back.
Thank you for being a great place for me and my family. I love this place.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the results of my treatment, but I must confess I only went once. My biggest bone is that they made me pay an amount up front that was greater that their agreement with my insurance and have yet to return 3 calls to discuss my refund.

I love my darling baby but I hate what she’s done for my back and hips. Shortly after she was born, I started my relationship with West U Wellness. I had never been to a chiropractor before because I’ve always heard ppl say they are con artists. WELL… These practitioners will put that stereotype to rest!
The good:
— Dr. Ploy and Dr. Long — I’ve seen both of them and they are both great at pointing out specific behaviors that may be causing your misalignment. They have different styles so just depends on your preference. Dr. Ploy is good with small talk and is so confident/​competent in fixing you up that your treatment is over pretty quickly. So if you’re wondering what’s wrong with you, be sure to specifically ask. Dr. Long will figuratively hold your hand through the treatment and talk through every action.
— The chiropractors give you a treatment plan with a goal of fixing you rather than stringing you along forever.
— Alex is a good massage therapist. She listens and is cognizant if a certain pressure point may hurt. I prefer really strong pressure, though, so if you’re the same be sure to speak up.
— They accept insurance and with my policy, I only have to pay the copay.
— they have a great changing table in the bathroom in the back
Soooo why didn’t I have them 5 stars?
— the chick who works the front desk on the left side. The short-​haired tan lady on the right is soo nice and conducts business professionally. But the other girl communicates «you’rrrrrrre an idiot» with her tone and facial expressions, and clearly has no patience for anybody who steps out of line in her eyes. And no, that’s not just her face because I’ve seen her be nice to a small set of ppl. It’s obvious enough that I actually dread encountering her when I call or when I check in.
— God forbid you call 23 hrs and 59 minutes before your appointment to cancel or reschedule because you WILL be charged a cancelation fee. Their policy is cancel 24 hrs or more. Well… I called 22 hrs and 57 minutes before my appt and sour front desk girl was so gracious to waive the cancelation fee but made it clear that she was doing me a favor. Idk. Treating returning clients like that doesn’t seem right but I guess that business model works for them as it keeps patients in check.
FYIs:
— it’s hard to schedule an appointment for a couple if reasons: (1) you have to call like a medical doctor’s office, which can be a chore when you’re going multiple times a week, (2) because they are so good, times are scarce
— consultations require you to undress from waist up and is immediately followed with a treatment.
— treatments are done in like 10 min
— they usually run behind by about 10 min but don’t be late because of that dreaded cancelation fee!
— they are the only ones in the loop who specialize in infant chiropractics. So if out baby is having issues latching on, bring them in!
— you can bring your kids
— pregnant women tend to prefer Dr. Petitclerc

I came here because of the reviews that I read on Unilocal.I was very dissatisfied with my $ 145 visit. When I called I was told there would be a fee of $ 115 for a consultation which included a spinal screening and all of thi sother stuff. Well, the consultation consisted of the doctor asking me dumb questions and telling me to bend over like they did in high school to assess my spine. I was only there for anxiety amd the doctor kept asking me about other health issues. He begin to treat me for other issues that I did not ask him to do. His accupuncture was horrible and was definitely not worth $ 145. I went to the school of accupuncture and got a free session that resolved my anxiety much more than west university wellness. I will never go to this pace again.

Came here on a recommendation from a friend after my hips and knee started aching from running.
I called to inquire about insurance options and the was taken care of right away I even got an appointment that very same day.
Upon arrival the place was a bit busy but check in was a breeze. I like that there isn’t much paper work to fill out. Most of your check in is done via a computer with touch screen.
I was greeted and taken care of very nicely by the staff and my visit was with Dr Yeager. He was very professional and understood my issues well. He opted for chiropractic my first visit and explained each exercise and what affects it has on the body to me clearly and gave me a few pointers what to work on at home. He discussed acupuncture as an option and I am excited to try it on my next visit.
My hip and knee felt better the same day and I’m hopeful that acupuncture will help as well!

I like the chiopriactors there, I like the environment there, but I had the most awful experience there during my last visit, so I am not going back and I won’t recommend my friends go there, here is what happened.
I was on my last visit (totally 6) and i was being evaluated by another chiopractor. I don’t mind since I like the new one as well, they are all very nice. Then she asked me do you have therapy today? I said I am not sure, I guess so since every time is therapy plus adjustment. Then she asked me to wait outside. I waited for 15 minutes then I was wondering why if I don’t have therapy today, the reason i thought this way is :
1. The new chiopractor doesn’t know whether I have therapy or not (which I beg she is supposed to know;
2. I have never wait longer than 10 minutes for the therapy, so it is possible that my original chiopractor really didn’t sign me up for the therapy.
So I went to the staff and said I want make sure that I have therapy. They told me yes, and the therapiest will come get me in 5 minutes.
Then she really came «get» me. She showed up with a attitute. Instead of calling my name nicely, she tap on my shoulder and said «hey it is your turn». I had a bad feeling and I was right.
She was silent, looking hostile, I asked: How are you doing today? She said, alrite, lay on the bed, face down. (with a commending tone). The the terrible things began when I lay down. She was dragging my clothes so .fast and hard that she missed it. then she did it again. She was so rude and I felt like someone is punishing me. Then she literally THREW the heat pad to my back.
I couldnl’t take it anymore so I asked her: Is there a problem? She replied: no, just try to fix the pad.
I got so stressed out through out the whole therapy. I later told my chiopractor what happened, and he apologized and said she probably had a bad day. My chiopractor suggest me to come back for therapy again. I was like, hell no.
The whole afternoon, my back pain just got worsen, I guess it is because all these awful experience I had from their therapist. I am not going back again. last but not the least, I paid $ 20 copay for this awful therapy.

I have chronic back pain, which leads to additional pain in my hips, shoulders, wrists, knees, earaches — you name it. But thanks to Dr. Ploy, I’m feeling SO much better.
I started seeing her about three times a week — it was that bad — and as I got better, we reduced it to twice a week, once a week, and eventually once a month for quick adjustments. After working her magic. I now know what it’s like to NOT have constant back pain. I’m kicking myself for not checking out West U Wellness years ago. I was also suffering from earaches which Dr. Ploy fixed with a few adjustments.
The reason why I picked West U:
1) Because of their many good reviews from quality Unilocalers
2) They’re holistic approach to curing ailments and secondary ailments
3) They also do acupuncture.
This was my first time getting acupuncture — which was partly covered through my insurance — and I was eager to try it out for anxiety and insomnia. You know those nights where all you can think about is work, work, work and your to-​do list for the next day, leaving you sleepless and frazzled. Well … the acupuncture seriously worked, and I’ve continued to get treatment. My road rage diminished, I wasn’t snapping at the poor beau as much, I was sleeping like a baby. I was practically care free.
I then experimented with the acupuncture for weigh loss. They’re these mini band-​aide-​like stickers with microscopic needles that go on/​around your ears. I lost two pounds in the first week; it’s supposed to suppress your appetite and curb cravings.
If you’re suffering from any sort of pain or illness (allergies, IBS, anxiety), I urge you to check out their website and see if they’re a fit for you. And for the expecting moms, out there, West U Wellness has a whole pregnancy and pediatrics program. The office waiting room is filled with moms and babies, so they must have a huge following.

The clinical staff here is amazing. I started seeing Dr. Ploy a few months ago, when I couldn’t move my neck. Within a week my mobility had drastically improved. I’ve also been a long time sufferer of chronic back pain. Never have I had someone listen so careful without forming snap judgments and explain my graphs/​scans so clearly. I saw her twice a week for a few weeks, and now I try to see her once a week.
I also try to fit in a massage with Erika every few weeks. She’s amazing. She’s also hilarious. I know lots of people enjoy just relaxing, and I’m sure she’d let me do so if that’s what I wanted. But I enjoy my conversation with her so much that it is sort of relaxing in its own way. She gives one of the best massages I’ve ever had, pays attention to all the trouble spots, and lets you know when she’s concerned about any spots. She mentioned my body giving off heat and that being a sign of inflammation. Suggested I see an allergist… A week and a half later I saw my GP and found out I had strep. And I have an allergy to grass which is what causes me to be highly susceptible to UR infections like strep.
The 4 star (vs a full 5) rating is due to the office staff. They are VERY friendly. But I’ve had some issues with whether on not my deductible has been met, and different girls charging me different amounts. Yesterday I called and left a message confirming my massage appointment for today and to cancel my adjustment for Wednesday. This morning I got a call that my massage for today was canceled and that I’d owe the full amount anyway since I canceled too late. Luckily I noticed the missed call quickly enough to correct their error.

I’ve never been one for chiropractic care. Having grown up with family in the medical field, and working in it myself, you don’t always hear great things. While I still feel that chiropractic alone isn’t enough, West U makes sure you have the perfect balance of everything needed! I’d tried so many things for my neck before finding Dr. Long, including 3 series of painful injections! With her gentle techniques of stretching, teaching me more about proper posture and how to watch for bad posture mindlessly, and the massages, I am 90% cured after just a few weeks of going twice a week. I still go back for massages when needed, but it’s rare these days.
On the massage note, Erika has to be hands down the best massage I’ve ever had! She can take my back and neck full of trigger points causing headaches and neck pain, and make me 100% pain free in just one 60 minute session. I’ve had massages ranging from free, to $ 150+ and she is the only person I will go to now even though I still get free ones from my job. That says a lot. :)

The chiropractor I saw was super nice and definitely knew what he was talking about. He adjusted my spine and gave me some electric current therapy in my lower back. I did feel better the next day. I just didn’t like that the office manager did not want to bill my insurance because they were out of network and would only pay $ 20 per adjustment. In her own words she said: it’s not worth it. Well, it is worth it to me since it’s $ 20 less for me to pay! I didn’t like that at all, but will not lower their star rating since the actual chiropractor who saw me was pretty good. I called my insurance and they explained they can reimburse me if I send them receipts. I plan to go back eventually, but I am still a little bothered with the billing situation. I’ve been to other Chiropractors before and they «SOMEHOW» manage to bill my insurance themselves! This is a first!

I have been taking my aching back/​legs here since June 2012. And haven’t thought twice about switching to a different chiropractor.
I usually schedule an hour with Cassandra, who is amazing at what she does. As a life-​hack I’ll schedule my appointments on Monday’s that way I’m never bummed about my weekend ending.

I went to Dr Yeager on the recommendation of someone on Twitter answering my plea for a suggestion on how to fix my resemblance to robocop… I went to see him, and I have never looked back.
I love the atmosphere in the office (they have regular family days, get-​togethers and parties with patients), the staff are always friendly, I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen, it’s easy to get to (I come up from Missouri City twice a month at least) and they open two Saturdays a month for those who can’t find the time during the work-​week.
My back is feeling notibly better since I started going to Dr Yeager and my entire being feels a lot more ‘stable’ as opposed to thinking that if I sit ‘funny’ or wrong, even for a short time, that I’m gonna hurt for days.
Don’t second guess yourself, if you’re contemplating a chiropractor, I highly recommend this place :)

I have been taking my baby girl to see Caroline Long for the past month and she is amazing. I love the idea that as show grows she will be aligned. Now we are going to see her as a family. I’m going for my neck because it bothers me quite a bit all the time. Prior to Caroline Long, I have seen two other chiropractors and feel they did not accomplish as much as she has in the past two visits. I can actually sleep on my back again something that I haven’t been able to do for quite awhile.
Also, the office is very family friendly. Has a small play area for kids and they offer a room so you can breastfeed. Amazing for the new mamas that aren’t quite used to breastfeeding in public yet. She also does chiropractic work on pregnant mamas, too.
