The Original Kolache Shoppe

I’ve been passing by this place for years because I grew up not to far it. I decided to stop this morning and thank God I did! When you walk in the door you can smell the deliciousness, then you see the food being prepared right there. The selection of kolaches is awesome.
I got the pastrami, cheese and jalapeño and I think it came from heaven. The pastry is so fresh, flaky and buttery. The pastrami is delish. This is not your regular kolache. My friend got the beef fajita and pepper jack cheese kolache, all she did was close her eyes and said it was giving her life lol!
This place has set the kolache bar so high, I’ve never had a kolache so good.

This place was on point, well at least the one jalapeño cheese kolache and this delicious fruit twist I had. I will definitely be back for more and make sure I arrive early to get a hold of that cinnamon roll.

Hands down best kolaches in Houston. These are some serious kolaches I grew up on Vincek’s kolaches in East Bernard and these trump those all day. Get the beef fajita with pepper jack and a pecan coffee.

I have been eating the kolaches and the red velvet cakes from here since I was a little girl… let’s just say for about 50 yrs

Absolutely amazing hole in the wall cute little Shop! If you’re anywhere remotely close to the area and they are open you NEED TO MAKE A STOP HERE! It’s amazing and you won’t regret it!

This is my second time coming to this place. It’s really awsome! I can only get here on Saturday mornings because of my work hours, but when I can get here it’s the place to be. Can you say, cherry pastries and sausage kolaches? Out of this world yummyness! I would have snapped a photo but I ate it all too fast lol.

This place is a hidden gem. It’s my to go to kolache shop. Probably the best kolache I’ve tasted. Made fresh everyday. The only downside of this place is probably the parking. The parking is bad because the shop is small and resides on the corner of the plaza next to telephone rd. Would recommend this place for kolache lovers!

Food is awesome, just awesome. Reasomably priced for how good it is! Coffee is too notch, as well as the tea leaves!

Simply the best in Houston or anywhere for that matter (except my Busia’s kitchen). Went there because it is in my new neighborhood and now I’m a regular. Go early to find parking because it goes fast and once they’re out they are out and close shop. Rather have fresh out of the oven than day old. And btw their Texas Pecan Coffee is also worth a try.

I made an impromptu stop here after dropping a friend off at Hobby, and I’m sure this is going to have to be a necessary pitstop before or after every morning airport run from now on. At risk of sounding like a bad Texan, I’ve always been somewhat disappointed with the kolaches I’ve had in the past until I came across this place. The dough here is magically pillowy with just a touch of sweetness. I love the huge sausage, jalapeño, cheese klobasniky. The chicken fajita croissant was also delicious with its flaky pastry dough and savory filling. I also enjoyed the Bavarian cream kolache.
They also have coffee and loose-​leaf tea. According to Eater, they even roast their own coffee!
The shop’s exterior may not look super spiffy, but the inside is decorated with some cool vintage knick-​knacks and adorable bottle-​cap stools.
This is one of the places where you can tell that the owners truly love and care about their food.

These are the best kolaches I’ve had in Houston. Although this is nowhere near where I live, I look for any excuse to drive out here. It’s so worth it.

Real good meat pies, the best hot pockets I ever had. Kinda out of the way, but perhaps worth the drive depending on how into hot pockets you are.

Drove here to see what the hype was all about. Plenty to choose from at 9:00am on Saturday morning. The area looks a little sketchy but the store itself was quaint and welcoming. Ordered sausage jalapeño and cheese, roast beef w/​jalapeño, beef fajita, and a chicken fajita kolache. The only one I liked was the actual traditional kolache: sausage jalapeño and cheese. Good sized sausage in a slightly sweet bun with added heat from the jalapeño. The other three were out of the box ideas and more of a puff pastry than kolache. The chicken fajita was salty, beef fajita was basic, and roast beef was good but nothing wow. It wasn’t really worth the drive but if you do come, get the sausage kolaches.

Not only was the food amazing, especially the chicken fajita and the Cinnamon ROLL… THE STAFF was superb. They made amazing recommendations, and they also made the whole experience very educational… telling us about how long they’ve been in business, how the food is prepared.

Found this place on Unilocal,it had so many 5 Star reviews I had to check it out! I stepped out of the car and I could smell cinnamon in the air, I had a feeling this was going to be good.
It’s small and kinda out of the way. I was there at 8am and they were busy and it was crowded but I got service with a smile.
If you have only been to a chain kolache shop or picked some up at your local doughnut shop, you don’t know what you are missing! This place is the real deal!
Only open between 6am and noon, if you are out between those hours you have no excuse not to visit this place. It’s worth the drive from where ever you are.

Small, mom and pop shop that’s pretty well hidden so look for the large sign that says «kolaches.» Stopped in on a whim for the first time because I saw the sign and after looking up reviews I was sold!
+ Jalapeño cheese sausage kolache: Good sized sausage and healthy amount of cheese. No skimping here! Filling to bread ratio was perfect.
+ Roast beef kolache: Not really a kolache but more like a herb seasoned croissant/​puff pastry filled with a thick layer of roast beef and cheese. Omg. SO GOOD. I’m drooling as I write this.
+ Cinnamon roll: Not your standard cinnamon roll. It’s flatter and wider. More like a sweet dough/​bread topped with cinnamon sugar. Still very tasty!
I wish this place was closer to where I live! But maybe it’s better that it’s not, otherwise I’d frequent this place more often than it’s healthy for me.

Good Kolache’s and bread recipe… every time you go in though, there are only certain ones available, which can be discouraging if you have a hankering for a specific one/​kind!
Cons – No condiments offered and not particularly warm service…

Okay so Telephone road looks sketchy. The outside of the building even looks off putting, but don’t judge a book by its cover.
The food is absolutely delicious. The items are baked fresh, and the quality shows. Instead of a tiny, skimpy little piece of meat in the kolache, this place uses sausage that actually fills up the pastry surrounding it in the regular kolaches.
Also try the ham, cheese, and bacon kolache. It is super flaky and melts in your mouth.
The parking is pretty much for a few cars only, and there is no eating area inside. Order and grab your food to go.

So I literally just ate 3 Kolaches off the floor…
«Why?», you may ask.
Because they were from this place. This place… oh, boy… this place can’t seem to make anything that ISN’T 110% HOLY SH*T delicious. I am so impressed with their Kolaches that I am going to be coming back to buy a few dozen for my next meeting so that EVERYBODY can try these sweet & savory pieces of heaven.
I can say, without a doubt, that this is my new favorite place. Which sucks because I live in Katy… but which is also something I’m just going to have to deal with, because these people simply churn out a quality of food that is truly unrivaled.
If you are anywhere within fifty… hell, even a hundred miles from this joint… you HAVE to come in, order a Sausage, Cheese & Jalapeño Kolache and a few sweet Kolaches; maybe even a Roast beef, Cheese & Jalapeño and just calm down and eat something unforgettable.

I love the kolaches from Shipley’s — they’re cheap and satisfying, but The Original Kolache Shoppe’s promise of a full-​sized sausage and delicious bread called to me like a siren song, so on a Thursday morning, I hopped into my car and drove 40 minutes across town to try them out. And maaaan was it worth it!
There are three basic savory varieties of kolache here: sausage and cheese; sausage, cheese, and jalapeño; and roast beef and cheese (with or without the jalapeño). I recommend the sausage, cheese, and jalapeño. It’s the best kolache I’ve ever had by far. The ratio of all the ingredients was perfect — the bread was slightly sweet, and the little bit of jalapeño provided juuuust enough tang and spice to cut through the fattiness of the sausage and cheese.
The roast beef kind is more like a pasty, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it. The roast beef is good, but it’s sliced deli-​style and kind of rolled inside the pastry shell, which just makes it too dense for my liking. I feel like it’d be better if it were shredded.
This place also serves coffee now, and the drip coffee was pretty good! They also do their own tea mixes in-​house, as the coffee guy behind the counter told me. He gave me a complimentary sachet of a lemony-​rose tea, which brewed up to a lovely red color and tasted bright. Overall, the folks here are super nice and the kolaches are great! Next time I’m in town, I’m definitely picking up a dozen of those sausage, cheese, and jalapeño kolaches for the office!
