I rarely demand anything on my birthday. I’m at that age, you know… Where you can already drink, your car insurance has lowered and you can rent a car without that youth fee. There isn’t much left, right? Anywho, my one request(and by request, I mean, if this doesn’t happen on my birthday, this next year will be filled with my lamentations) is that I have a birthday cake from El Bolillo. They are, pardon my french, off the chiz-ain! Their bolillos are addictive, but that should be a given considering they went and named their stores after it!

After reading great reviews about this place I decided to check it out for myself since it’s right next to the hospital I volunteer at. For one, the pastries are huge! They were much bigger than I imagined from the pictures on their websites. Second, I got around 7 items and it only cost me 3.20! My favorite was this bread filled with cream cheese and jalapenos, yummmm! There were a few things that could improve. I wish I knew what I was getting. there are no descriptions or names of the pastries any where. There were a few pastries that I personally didn’t like but that’s just my own preference. I will definitely come by more often to try different things next time! I want to try their cakes soon as well, they look delish!

After reading many review we decided to get our son 1st Bay cake from this place. The workers helped my wife pick out a cake for the big occasion. We ordered the tres leches cake with chocolate chip and strawberries and boy was it awesome. The only problem is they forgot the strawberries and made it all chocolate chip but you can never go wrong with too much chocolate. Great tasting cake, great service and over all good experience.

Do you remember how Cinderella had two wicked stepsisters? Cinderella was tormented by them and her evil step-mom but ended up having the last laugh when her Prince came looking for her after the dance. It turns out that this is one of the wicked stepsisters in terms of bakeries. Well, not«wicked» per se but just a really homely stepsister that pales if you’ve met Cinderella. Set amongst the working class neighborhoods of Gulfgate, this branch has similar goods as the revamped bustling original of the Airline Drive location. But, the huge variety and frantic positive energy of that branch does not carry over to here, which is a let-down. I’d be willing to be forgiving if they had that scrumptious strawberry jam-filled oversized muffin that the Airline Drive location has. On a Saturday morning, I tried valiantly to explain what I was looking for and referenced that it was at their other location. Like a jealous sister who is tired of hearing about her more comely sister, the staff just shook their head wanly and looked away. My consolation prize was some tasty Pan Colombiano(70 cents each) — so, the Cinderella branch didn’t get all the secret tasty recipes. But, its not enough for me to come visit this homely clean branch regularly. I’ll go and wait my turn to dance with Cinderella.
