Dimly lit and cozy this bar is perfect for a date night. The staff was beyond friendly and the wine selection is vast.

The drinks here are good, especially the red sangria! The panini and hummus is delicious! There is usually live music and the ambiance of the inside is not what it looks like from the outside. The staff is friendly and the service is great. I wish we can choose sides with the panini besides the chips!

I had a good time here, it was just up the street from my date’s house. I’ll need to go again on a non band night, but the wine was priced right.

Love, love, love it! First time here… not sure what the few negative reviewers are talking about. This place is fabulous. I usually judge books by their covers; can’t do the same with wine bars. ;)

I have been here many times over the past couple years and like it a bit more each time i go. We have always had good service and have come here with large groups and for date night.
They almost always have live music with free cover on Friday and Saturday nights. You can check their website or facebook page to see who is playing. They don’t get started until around 10pm and the bar doesn’t get full until after 11.
If there is going to be band usually they usually put up «Reserved Seating» signs on all the tables. Just talk to a bartender because these are just there because they want to strategically sit you to ensure every seat can get filled when it gets packed.
If you get to know the bartenders, ask them about how the owner of this place took the deed out the hands of the Mexican mafia and chased them away with a machete… True story!

Overall an enjoyable experience! I had never been here before and since I have an affinity for bubbly, it seemed like the right place to try out. I met up with some friends on a Friday after work. The place felt cozy and the staff were friendly, pretty knowledgable about wines. I started the evening with a delicious panini and a bottle of Prosecco. The prices were favorable and there was a variety of selection.
The staff seemed pre-​occupied with setting up for a large group. As the evening went on, the place became packed. The group had arrived. There was a jazzy live band performing, which created an excellent vibe. So 3 stars? My friends and I were having a great time at this point and so we took it upon ourselves to dance to the tunes. Ironically, the vocalist had an attitude because we got too close to the band. No one was hurt and it would seem that musicians would usually appreciate someone moving to the melody. I guess not the vocalist.
As the evening was beginning to come to a close, it was apparent the staff was «in the weeds.» The place was busy. I am pretty empathetic when it comes those in the service industry, however, the lady tending bar gave me a snippy reaction when I made a typical request. Well, it probably was not a good time to request a split of the tab, but non the less, did not require the reaction I got. I will say if it was not for the awesome friends I have, the experience may have been leaving «more to be desired.» Since I had a blast with my mates, I overlooked the minor flaws in the evening.
While in the middle of drafting this review, I decided to give it another shot before completion. This time I went on a Wednesday night, which was pretty chill. The guy tending bar was pretty laid back and cool. He gave me more details about the place. The coolest thing I discovered is the owner lives behind the bar. How cool is that? A variety of wines at your disposal. Sounds like a brilliant idea! Well, the snippy lady bartender arrived and I think she recognized us from the last experience. I am still of the opinion that she is not friendly, but hey, maybe I just caught her on some bad nights. Who knows? I am not the type of customer that will judge a business because of one person. So I will be going back because being a Heights’ local where bubbly and great music are not too far away, make it all worth the while. Maybe over time the lady bartender will forgive me for asking for a split of tab on a busy evening. I will be sure to update this review with optimism that will be the case.

I had a great time here on Sat night. The band they had playing was AWESOME! Plus, we met some cool people in the process. We came on White Linen night so I am sure that the crowd is more than it normally is on a Sat night, I have been before when I was the only person in there.
I ordered a red blend (which was super inky and dark, loved it) and watched this amazing band play. People danced and overall just had a great time. There was a food truck outside (Kats Chow), SCORE!
I will definitely be going back to BBR, especially since it is SO close to home!

I can’t believe it took me as long as it did to come to Boom Boom Room. Well, yes I can, it looks gross from the outside… but it’s SO different on the inside.
I came here on a date night with my husband and we were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. The lighting was low, red lights, and lanterns. This whole place felt lush, secret, romantic. We were seated at a table and immediately got table service.
We got some really nice wine, moderately priced. We also ordered there panini’s. They were delicious! I loved mine. Although, be careful because the bread is hard and can hurt the roof of your mouth.
There was an awesome band playing while we were there. It was like Tejano meets Russian (think Gogol Bordello). I loved the band, I still don’t know what they were called though.
It was a really enjoyable night, a great atmosphere for a date.

Excellent alternative to the crap on /​off Washington Ave. Hardly ever crowded, which is a plus in my book.
For those of you ‘scared’ of the location… I just have to laugh, where else can you have some good wine and have your car serviced at the same time! Yes, it is surrounded by reputable «Local» automotive repair shops.

I came here after Lights in the Heights — it was pretty empty (only a few people inside), but the décor is attractive. Dark mood lighting can make reading the menu a little tough, but gives the place that «romantic» feel.
We shared a bottle of pinot noir suggested by our waitress, which was pretty good. I only had a few bites, but the hummus was tasty as well. I’ll have to come back soon to check out more wine and food!

The staff was great but I didn’t like the choice of music. It sounded like polka or something… but the décor and bar were nice. Would definitely stop back by…

I recently discovered the boom boom room and fell in love. The eclectic feel, the extensive wine list and the soprano panini are fantastic.
I’ve had a couple of the champagne cocktails but I can’t stop myself from getting the white sangria. I don’t know what all is in this stuff but it’s the crack, not so much the crack brownie.

I stopped in for a quick dinner. The décor, outside and in, is kind of 60s, dimly lit, «jazz wine bar» and oddly attractive in a retro, slightly tacky sort of way. The selection of wine seems quite good, but I really came in to try the paninis they advertise on their outside sign.
Eh. I had a turkey panini with a white cheese and broccoli sauce on it. Just ok. A bit smallish. Decent canned music playing so I sat and ate, relaxed, and enjoyed the 60s mellow the place gives off. Then the bill came. Small sandwich, bag of chips, and one can of Coke: $ 18!!! Are you shitting me!?! Ok, you got me this time, but you’ll never get me again!
If you go to this place as a bar, I’m sure it’s decent. Do NOT go as a place to get a meal! Ouch!
3 stars as a bar and 2 as a place to eat. I’ll be charitable and go with the 3 and not the 2.

I really want to like this place, even though the bartender was absolutely terrible and it’s on a creepy part of Yale. The inside is a swingin’, retro pad with Frank playing in the background, rich velvet curtains along one corner and cozy couches for canoodling with your main squeeze. It’s definitely classier than the exterior lets on, and I might see this as a possibility for date night with the BF paired with a carbo-​load supper at Jus’ Mac down the road.
However…the bartender’s shortness was really hard to ignore. We walked in, sat ourselves down at the bar, were greeted, and then ignored in favor of a new boyfriend’s text messages. My friend said «I’ll have the…» and was cut off before she could get her order out. I asked which sherries were good and I was told «none of them». Uhhh… okay. (After explaining that I actually LIKED sherry I settled on the one billed as the least «weird».) The final straw came when we were asked to move from our seats in favor of another couple. So we moved… all the way out the door.
Maybe it was because my friend and I were younger than their typical clientele, or maybe she was just having a bad night, but she shouldn’t have taken it out on us. There was a male bartender working at the same time that was professional and considerate, though, so I’m not willing to write it off completely just yet. But zounds, that was an unpleasant experience. I didn’t know the «boom boom» in the room referred to the explosions of hatred from the staff.

The people here are very nice! They have a huge wine selection, I mean huge! The panini’s were oh so good and cheesy!
The outside may seem sketchy, but it really is cool and relaxed inside! The music is calming and the wine helps with that mellowing.
Décor is great, kind of eccentric. Not all match but comofortable for sure.
Had a fun time, hope to go back again and take more newbies!

Eh. I was not impressed by this place at all. The service was good as the guy was attentive, but he was also very unfriendly. He just never sent a good vibe.
The panini I had (Caprese) was pretty good, but it’s pre-made…so I wasnt a fan of that. The others in the group were also a bit turned off by this. I can’t really hurt a place like this for having pre-​made paninis, but I do prefer paninis that are made to order.
The wine list isn’t bad. I had two glasses of a malbec. No complaints.
The décor of this place is pretty good. It’s pretty dark so it’s a good date place I guess.
The parking lot is small.
Anyways I will likely give this place one more shot because I wanted to like it… but just couldn’t fall for it the first time.

What a great bar!
Most nights, it’s very calm and quiet and dark corner-​ish. I appreciate that on nights when I just want a glass of wine and a conversation, but beware they also have a live band who plays loudly.
Along with a nice atmosphere they also have a strong wine list, champagne cocktails and food, too. They have various appetizers like Red Pepper Hummus with pita bread and paninis also. Stay away from the Crack Brownie if you like chocolate and don’t feel like entering rehab over a dessert.
The best part is a bartender named Julian. He is so helpful and gives excellent service. A well-​deserving receiver of tips, if you appreciate that kind of thing.

The Boom Boom Room is another local haunt that I just adore but don’t visit as much as I’d like. But after this last visit and a quick reminder of all that I love about it — the dark, sultry scene, sexy wines and Champagne cocktails, an odd mix of music, and a satisfying panini menu — I’ll be sure to make more rounds in the future.
The furniture is retro-​chic, the bar illuminates red, there’s an fun mix of patrons. I dunno, something about this place reminds me of the Champagne/​wine bar version of Studio 54. …But with a helluva a lot less people.
The wine list is affordable, as are the snacks. I opted for the turkey, bri and avocado panino — served piping hot, dripping in juice — with the standard side of chips. (Meh, they could have better sides.) It’s ginourmous and something I highly recommend YOU order. I didn’t get a chance to try the Crack Brownie, but one of my friends did, and I could smell the decadent chocolate from across the table! Crack, it is. Stay away from that stuff on the playground, kids.

I went twice in a week. So sue me.

I did not like (ok, I really thought it was funny) the waiter who laughed when one friend finished her drink and me and another were still babysitting ours.
