The Antique and Design Guys

Oh my gosh, this is my kind of antique store!!! When planning an antiquing weekend with my husband, this is the kind of store I was shooting for. Tables piled with old and interesting goodies, glass cases full of jewelry and silver, tons of chandeliers and cool sconces, furniture, art, a few artifacts from different countries, and a very friendly and down to earth guy to help you navigate. I hate the stores where the owners are too snooty to even greet you *cough* COOL STUFF *cough*
It was a little expensive for us, but we had a good time poking around in there for almost an hour.

Do they have an incredible selection of mid-​century pieces and hollywood regency? Yes, yes they do. However, they seem to be catering to high end designers with large budgets and not the general public with good taste :-) because mid-​century lamps priced at $ 465 is just insane. I can get them in Dallas for less than $ 100! I could ooooh and ah all day in here but every price tag I turn over it’s like a slap in the face — like they just told me «you poor girl are not good enough for our store, you need to go to Ross, please go».

This place is a pretty neat one to pace around and get your antique on. Lots of stuffed sections, which requires your discerning eye, just so you can see it all.
We saw a cool patio lamp in the shape of a pagoda. So was asked about the price. The manager told us it was $ 9800.00 We were not sure if we should laugh along or run away. As it turns out, the pagoda lamp, if it were a pair (which it was not) and in perfect condition (which it was not) could have fetched ten grand. However, it was missing a foot, was over polished with the wrong solution which dulled the finish, and the owner said, «For us… $ 300.» Ah… no.
We did discover his really groovy collection of cuff links. Did you know that french cuffs are really in right now, so stock up. I felt he was fairly reasonably priced, considering you probably can not find rarities like these. The ones we fetched were sterling with raw amethyst (or some sort of purple stone) in the center. Very interesting and classic: $ 35.00.
We also really liked these 60s vintage fused glass coasters, but for $ 60, we thought.eh. Not this time.
I have to disagree wtih Danielle about the owver. I would not classify him as friendly. If you can deal with the sardonic wit of the shop owner, you will be okay. If you are stuffy and needing a café aulait while you shop, go back to Neimans.

Located right next to Cool Stuff, The Antique and Design Guys houses a more typical and eclectic variety of antiques. There’s jewelry, furniture, mirrors, lamps and everything in-​between (including a white baby grand piano when I came in one day). The owner is friendly and willing to answer any questions you have – it’s bright and clean inside, and there’s usually a radio going so you don’t feel like you’re intruding in someone’s private space due to the awkward silences that many antique places seem to foster.
It’s fun to poke around in this place! There are a few surprises here and there that make it worth a stop.
