I’ve visited for Blowouts a few different times and have always been happy with the results. Very nice and friendly staff.

My first experience with Styling Bar was great! I decided at the last minute that I wanted to get a blowout for a party the same day, and Styling Bar’s easy online appointment booking system allowed me to book the appointment seamlessly.
Just as promised — the blowout was a 45 minute service for $ 40. I thought about adding on the 10 minute scalp massage but I was in a time crunch and passed it up this time. However, the standard service also included a pretty amazing scalp massage.
My blowout held up to the humidity and lasted well over 6 hours that included an outdoor party.
I noticed a sign by the register that they only accept cash tips, but they do conveniently have an ATM in the salon so to can get cash if you forget to bring it.

Resee is an excellent stylist and hair color expert. I loved how he colored my hair correctly on his first attempt. Other stylist took two or more attempts to get rid of my grey hair. My hair color looks so natural. The salon is clean snd the décor is fun snd upbeat.

I was a little worried after reading multiple bad reviews on here especially after they called me in the morning and said their system had double booked and they wondered if I could come in early. It wasn’t a problem for me to do that and I was pleasantly surprised. The receptionist greeted me right away, I waited maybe 2 minutes before my stylist came and got me. She did a great job of holding a conversation while she shampooed my hair. I was offered a drink while she was working on my blowout. She listened to what I wanted and it turned out pretty well. The only complaint I have is that my curls did not hold well, by the time I got home the curls in the front were already out, the back held better but overall it lost its style quickly, maybe stronger hairspray would have helped. Overall a good experience.

I had a 9:00 am appointment for my first ever blow out with Reese. He asked me questions about what kind of blow out I wanted — and even showed me some pictures on pinterest since I was having a hard time describing what I wanted. We started and finished on time. Everyone was helpful and friendly throughout. They played great music and had «Miss Congeniality» playing on the TV. I loved my blow out. Only complaint? I wish it had held a little longer/​better. But I would definitely go back!

I got my hair done here for my bridal shower last Sunday. The stylist that preformed my double shot treatment and blowout seemed like she had never done hair in her life. As she washed my hair, she never talked or asked me any questions, like if the water was okay or if I needed anything. She even dropped a bottle of shampoo or something on me and just laughed never apologizing. She also had to keep going to the front to ask other people how long to keep the treatment in for and how to apply it properly. I understand being new or in training, but if that’s the case, someone experienced needs to be assisting. When we got back to her station, she seemed to have the hardest time trying to figure out what she needed to do in order to achieve the look that I wanted. When I told her I wanted a middle part, she laughed as if that was something that no one did. I never got a middle part, or really any part for that matter and my hair turned out nothing like the picture I had selected on the iPad. I ended up redoing my hair myself once I got to my friends and was late to my own bridal shower because of it. I had a lot of hope for this place and wanted to give it a try despite the mixed reviews but I was severely disappointed. It was a waste of $ 50, maybe it was just my stylist, but at this point I’m reluctant to try again. I was so excited to get my hair done for one of the most important days leading up to my wedding and had I known I would end up doing it myself, I would have saved the time and $ 50.

Run, don’t walk, to the Styling Bar in Rice Village. My hair is in the best shape its ever been (57 years and counting). Honestly, my hair looks 29! I was slow to start using all their services — started with blowouts /​styles with Angie and always walked out pleased. Then started going to Reece (also great with blowouts /​styles) for color. Reece is a color master and understands hair — would never go anywhere else. Just had Claudie cut my hair and she did a fabulous job. These guys «get» hair. And they are extra nice and committed to great service. I never have to wait and the prices are very, very reasonable! I won’t ever go anywhere else! Thanks to team at the Styling Bar!

My appointment was at 9am. I arrived at 9am only to find that I was the only person there with the exception of the cleaning staff. The styling bar staff finally strolled in at 9:10/9:15. I then was directed to my stylist and asked how I’d like my hair done. I replied that I would like my hair straight and slightly curled under. Not sure which part of that was confusing but my stylist curled my hair OUT and kept telling me that it was fine– that she would brush it out at the end. Well, I know you be shocked when– wait for it… my hair stayed curled OUT even after it was ‘brushed’. I was a Shirley Temple look alike with all the curls. Thank goodness I had a gift certificate because I have had so much better at other blow dry bars.

My hair is thick and curly and I had a truly wonderful experience at StylingBar. My appointment was today at 10 am and my hair is straight but full of body. My appointment started on time, the place is clean, and the staff was professional. I will definitely return.

If I could give them zero stars I would. Here on Unilocal under the services tab they clearly state that they do hair cuts. When I called to ask for pricing the receptionist was like, «Umm…» And immediately placed me on hold without informing me. When she came back on the line she said, «uh we don’t do haircuts here. Well we do but um we only have one lady that does and she only does her clients or referrals from her clients.» I immediately ended the call. Never knew of a business to turn away business. Completely unprofessional.

Very very disappointing experience.
I went here to get my hair blow dried and curled for a party that I was going to. This was on a Saturday and I expected them to be busy. My appointment was set for 4 pm. When I walked in I waited around for 5 – 6 minutes before anyone even acknowledged that I was there. Once I finally got to talk to someone they put me in a waiting chair right in the middle of the salon. I felt extremely out of place. My hair was awfully done and the lady doing my hair kept making it a point to tell me that I was her last patient of the day. I paid the same amount as the first patient and I felt that I should have been treated with the same respect. I went up to pay embarrassed of the way people were staring at my hair. Even the man up front must’ve noticed because he said it was a very «different» style! I went home and showered the products and the ugly style away and did my hair all over again for that night. I went in wanting to feel glamorous but I just felt ripped off.

My Stylist was Rachel and she was very sweet and professional. Its just that she missed the mark when it came to my style. I was very disappointed. When you go out of the Salon, you want to feel pretty and you want your hair to look salon styled. Mine did not! I was so sad my hair was flat two hours later. I feel like I just wasted 40 bucks!!! Not going again. Do not recommend for people who have never gone.

I went here after being in town for a wedding. Overall I had a not so great experience. Front desk staff was super friendly and welcoming. We were offered champagne after arriving early. I was taken to the sink after waiting about 15 minutes after my scheduled start time. Another friend waited even longer.
The woman who did my hair was obviously running behind and made no effort to hide it. She said she didn’t have enough time to do the hair style I asked for so I picked something else. Then while blowing out my hair, she did not blow out the back, only the front. She did a rough blow dry job on the back using just her hands and the blow dryer then curled that portion. I was not happy with the way the front looked (she didn’t show me the back) and told her. She shrugged saying she thought it looked good and added, «I don’t know what to tell you.»
I would not go here again should I find myself in Houston.

Not long until this circus is shut down. I live within walking distance and would so love to have a place to get a blowout so close to the neighborhood, but I will spend the extra time in my car to head to Drybar or Ulta’s salon before I will ever make a return here. Questionable skills isn’t even where I would begin… The stylists are not qualified enough to be charging $ 40 a blowout plus cash tip. Hopefully a new place will come to the west u/​rice area! :)

This was the most unfortunate treatment I have ever received. In fact, I remember they did it before but I guess I was too forgiving.
I had a 4:30 appointment and was a few min early. I was asked to sit and wait and they never even made an eye contact after that. My hair stylist (Rachel) was working with someone which seemed like it will take forever. However, my dissapointment was no one seemed even concerned that I was waiting for 20 min already and another hour was on the way when I quited and protested. They didnt even made it easy for me to cancel my appointment and walk out easily. This was so unprofessional, so rude, and so unwelcoming. Never will try again.

This place is a joke. It’s tiny and cramped. The so-​called comp beverages they offer are served in tiny plastic cups. The receptionist is a moron and then let’s get to the actual hair styling. I don’t even know how the stylist who did my blow out is even still employed. His name was Saul. He was rude and had zero talent. It really seemed like he has no clue what he was doing. My hair was terrible, frizzy and the way he styled my front layers looked like a hair do from the 80s. Just awful. He needs to find another profession. Unfortunately, maybe the other stylists are better, but after this experience, I question the quality and talent of the other stylists at a salon that would employ him. I’ll stick to the dry bar.

NICE TRY! You’re clearly trying to save face because your salon is awful and gets terrible reviews. Saul was the stylist that did my hair and it was terrible. Why don’t you try to actually improve the horrible quality of your salon instead of posting false and misleading comments to actual customer reviews. It no wonder your salon is failing!

What a pleasant surprise! Stylingbar contacted me to come in again for another try! On them!
Glad I did! This time the experience was lovely and just what I needed. I asked for a casual, basic blow out style. And she sure delivered. My hair was fresh, and smooth and looked great.
And I was in and out in 40 minutes… perfect!

I don’t remember the guy’s name who did my hair — Latin dude, gossipy with his coworkers, left me waiting in the sink area for a good 20 minutes, visibly annoyed that I used a Groupon. Annnnnd then my hair!!! Was terrible!!! I saved the photo to show the stylists at DryBar (Uptown Park) for us to share a VERY hearty laugh when I went to them to next day for my fixer-​upper! I’ll share it here, too, so we can all continue to relive the humor.
I love getting blowouts, I love Rice Village, I love the salon itself — and maybe the other stylists are better — but man, my experience here was WHACK!

Since the DryBar in Upton Park was all booked up I thought I would try this place. When you first walk in its very cute, very similar to DryBar, but not as clean or kept up. After getting my hair washed they offered me a drink. Since it was 9 am I asked for a mimosa, all they had was champagne, no biggie, still good.
The overall process was great, I enjoyed my champagne out of a plastic glass while watching chick flicks. However, the end result was questionable. Very Shirley Temple. But crazy. She insisted it would fall after a few hours. It really didn’t. It just continuously looked worse throughout the day. I ended up just going home and recurling it myself. Total bummer and waste of $ 50 ($ 40 but I tipped because she was nice).
At the end of the day lesson learned, stick with the professionals at DryBar!
