Ron’s Downtown Auto Service

Just got my car back from these guys and am completely satisfied with the repairs they’ve done. Fair price, communicative, and sincere. I didn’t feel I was being cheated or taken advantage of at all, totally unlike experiences I’ve had with mechanics before. They spoke to me like I wasn’t an idiot, but very professionally and respectfully. This is a rare occurrence when you are a young female. I felt comfortable taking it here. Will come back if I need to.

Today I called them about a possible repair and, without asking, they walked me through what was wrong and gave me advice that ultimately saved me money (and earned them nothing except my respect and future business). I cannot say enough about how proactively helpful the gentleman was.
Additionally, on another occasion, they did a quick repair and only charged me $ 20.
I haven’t had any major repairs done here but will certainly do so when needed. These guys are honest and very service oriented.

My tires light came on and I wasn’t sure which tire or how much air I needed… made a call and got in to check my tires during lunch. First off this place doesn’t sell tires or make tire repairs but the gentleman went ahead and checked my tires and put air in them. He did not charge me and I even insisted in tipping him but would not take any payment. I will def be going here for all auto repair bc of his integrity and kindness!

I don’t take the time to write a lot of reviews, but Ron’s deserves it.
After looking around at reviews for auto places near my house, I decided to give Ron’s a try. I have nothing but the highest praise for what Michael and his staff do. These are probably, no, definitely the most honest mechanics I’ve worked with (and I’ve been to quite a few…). Michael has never even attempted to up-​sell me, but constantly does what you would want in a mechanic: treat your car like he would his own.
He is happy to offer advice, but it’s always nuanced and he’s not afraid to suggest getting a second opinion just to let you know he’s doing his best.
Short anecdote: took my wife’s car (Nissan Rogue) to the dealership in houston for a recall; it came back with the recall fixed and a whole laundry list of things that «needed immediate attention.» I politely declined and took said list to Ron’s to have them check it out. Many of the things the dealership suggested weren’t even necessary (is anyone surprised?). And, the repairs that did need attention, Michael gave me a timeframe on when to reasonably do them, ranking them in priority, quoted me prices (told me what he could save me money on compared to the dealer, and things he couldn’t), and didn’t try to push me into anything. The best customer service experience one could ask for at a mechanic, no?
I’ve now been taking both my and my wife’s car to them since we moved into the neighborhood a couple months back. Our cars have been running better and better since I’ve been taking them there, and that’s a huge compliment; especially for toll that Houston roads take on any vehicle.
Can’t praise these guys high enough; they’re doing great work at extremely reasonable costs. Keep up the good work, guys.

I was fortunate to find Ron’s Downtown Auto a year ago and have been taking my car there since. Great prices and outstanding service. Michael goes above and beyond to obtain customer satisfaction!

Went to Ron’s at the suggestion of a friend. I had a «squealing» when I started my car and I assumed it was the belt tensioner. I called and said as much and was expecting to pay $ 200+ for repairs. I talked with owner and he said he would do his best to limit repairs and get it fixed quickly. I dropped it off and only a couple hours later igot a call saying my car was fixed! All it took was adjustment of the belt tensioner and not a full replacement. $ 35 instead of $ 200. I was amAzed at the honestly and service.
I will be back for any auto needs and I would suggest anyone looking for a mechanic to come here!

I called to ask some questions as I was concerned about getting brake work done at NTB. The gentleman I spoke with was very helpful. He did not have time to see me that day so gave me the name of another place that he said was good and if it didn’t work out he could see me in the morning. He also didn’t knock NTB — said he didn’t know anything about their work to comment. Very classy. Although I didn’t get my car work done there, I will definitely go there in the future.

The team at Ron’s was awesome. Brought my car in to have differential fluid and transmission fluid changed. Also asked for a quick check-​over to be done since I was getting ready to go on a long trip. Service was prompt. Michael was very honest about what needed to be done. Turns out the transmission fluid looked fine, so it didn’t need to be replaced. Prices are very reasonable. Will take all my cars there for future servicing.

I needed a belt replaced. I bought the belt at autozone and the mechanics were still able to help me out by placing it on.

True to most other review on Unilocal,Ron’s Downtown Auto Service does a really great job. I brought my car in for repairs and to have the oil changed. I met with Michael and talked about the issue. He asked me to fill out a form with my information and information about the car. It also has a section for the work request.
Foolishly, I left my car and key without any kind of acknowledgement or paper trail. Don’t do that. If you leave the car, make sure it’s documented somehow, just in case.
But I wasn’t worried about it. Michael asked me to call in a few hours, and I did. He and his crew had performed a good check on the car. I was advised that the oil change was complete, and that a few other things had been noticed, such as the need for brake replacement and a change of the air flow sensor.
Pricing was good, and I feel that I got good service and a good value.

We were en route to New Orleans on a road trip in July when our car’s AC went on the fritz. Not good. We called from about an hour away after reading Unilocal reviews. Michael said he was booked but would see if it was something simple like low coolant or a bigger problem — and he would recommend a shop that could help us if he couldn’t. When we got there, he had the AC fixed in about 10 minutes for $ 30. Only regret is he doesn’t work in our town.

A+ customer service. I was able to get my car in with no appointment and got great customer service. Guy who helped me was friendly and very knowledgeable about Mercedes and didn’t try to sell me anything. Will take my car here in the future.

No, no, no… Make sure to get a second opinion when you go here. My car had the air pressure light on, and was not riding properly it was jumping a lot, I took it to this place because of the reviews and they told me I need to replace 2 sway bars ($ 275 for that). It didn’t make sense to me, so I took it to 2 other places and they told me it was my tires. So I went and changed them and the problem was resolved. Imagine if I go for the $ 275 service and not the tires… After declining the proposed work he charged $ 35 for inspecting??? Now its been 4 months and my car continues driving smoothly with the new tires.

Called the garage to get my car tested for a start failure I had recently. They asked me to come in. After talking with Michael he offered some options and gave me pros and cons for each. He was very forthcoming and I really appreciated that. I’m a mechanical engineer so I quized him on some of his suggestions and they all checked out. I also needed an oil & filter change. They were reasonably priced and I got a full report after and showed me my old filters after they were changed. I dropped car off at 11 am and picked it up at 1:30 PM.
For a neighborhood garage that offers immediate quotes over the phone, open on a Saturday, no appointment needed, good experience & service. They are not bad at all. Do they have the best diagnostic tool, no, but pretty decent service, I wil be back in the future for more maintenance.

This is the first time in my life where I walked in to auto service center and never once felt like I was being sold something. Michael was 100% sincere the entire time, and when I suggested that I think the struts needed to be replaced, he recommended that we take it around the block so that he could hear it.
After we circled, he told me that he didn’t think for sure that the struts needed to be replaced, and went so far as to explain how a strut works and what’s typically required when having them replaced. He was very honest and up front about my options and recommended that I leave the car there overnight for him to take a look, and once he had an idea and a quote, he’d give me a call. He was also very quick to reiterate that there’s no obligation once I received a quote.
The next day, he called and gave me a thorough explanation of the issues and quoted me FAR below what I received everywhere else, while still exceeding my customer service standards.
They kept it for another day, and when I went to pick it up, Michael explained what he’d done, showed me the old parts and what was wrong with them, AND had washed the car and replaced a turn signal… No charge.
Needless to say, I’ll be back so long as I live in Houston and will recommend this place till I’m blue in the face.

Friendly and reasonable auto service. We’ve had multiple cars in for service and they fix them for a fair price. If the repair is minor, they sometimes waive charges! I’ve never met a repair shop that does this in Houston before.

I’m not really sure how I felt about this place. The guy was super nice but I was able to tell him what was wrong with my car before he could make a guess. Once he ran a diagnostic, I was right. Michael was really nice, but seemed unsure since he was the only one working that morning. My U-​joints in the back needed to be replaced. He quoted me $ 362 for the replacing the back 2 with Nissan brand U-​joints (each were $ 65 apparently). I was driving and in a rush to an appointment I went ahead and OK’ed the job before calling around. I was uneasy about the deal. I called a couple of places after and many quoted less than $ 300. Not sure how to feel about this. The work was great. No more squeaking and he even saved the boxes and old UJoints for me to look at.
If anyone has some extra info on this I’d greatly appreciate it.

I went there ready to pay a lot to service my BMW. I was surprised to how nice and friendly they were, and how willy they were to help me. They put my 335I on the lift and did a full break inspection. Then told me nothing was wrong and the computer just needed to be reset. They could have easily charged me a arm and leg but didn’t.
Also, while my car was lifted they noticed my front skirt was hanging low. The replace the missing screws and put everything back in place. It good as new.
So once we were done with the full break inspection, reset my computer, reattaching my front bumper. My bill was $ 0.00! I definitely found a good HONEST shop! I will be going there from now on.

This is my first time to write a review for a business on Unilocal.I just felt compelled to do it. I went to Ron’s because of the good reviews, thinking it may be a body shop. When I got there, I met Mike and he told me they didn’t do body work, however, he had a couple recommendations. A high-​end body shop and a low-​end body shop. He spoke highly of both, but clearly you could save money at the low-​end shop. Mike was very helpful and spent about 10 – 15 minutes talking with me even though he wasn’t going to be getting my business.
Turns out I was having problems with my AC and mentioned it to him. 90 minutes later, I had a perfectly running AC.
I went to both of the recommended body shops, and both spoke highly of Mike and the work they do.

Ron’s is as good as it gets! Honest, affordable, and quick service with an extremely friendly staff. The first year I moved to Houston I had a 13 year old Honda Civic. Michael and his crew kept her running until I was ready to buy a new car.
While I was car shopping, they let me bring my potential cars in to have a thorough look and help me decide if it was a good deal. After I bought my new car they purchased the Honda from me for parts.
Now they service my new Mercedes for half the price at the dealer!
