Robin’s Nest Bed & Breakfast Inn

This establishment does not return calls, emails or message sent via their site. They advertise as a venue for small weddings but I’m not sure how they can do weddings when you cannot reach anyone there.
05/​29/​2015: In response to your explanation. I have never spoken with your wedding coordinator. I have never discussed prices with anyone at your establishment other than to leave a message for your wedding coordinator who never called me back. If you read my earlier review my frustration is that no one ever returned my multiple messages. I tried reaching you by phone (messages), your website and
. Not one response other than this false statement here on Unilocal which makes it sound like I was just being cheap. Shame. Confirms my review.

Awesome place to stay. Very comfy and very southern! I travel a lot for business and I like that there is no hassle or waiting to get your room like other places.

This place is okay, if you know what you’re in for. It’s loaded with charm and well located in a cool part of town. We stayed here because it was convenient to all the cool restaurants and bars on Westheimer, as well as downtown (where we were attending a wedding). Can’t fault the location or the charm of the place.
Downsides:
— We arrived late in the evening (around 9 PM) and had the same issues getting in that Lisa D. describes below. Locked gate, no one answering the phone. We ultimately discovered that the gate could be opened by reaching around to the other side, but I imagine that was unintentional. They really should just call or e-​mail with the gate code on the day before a person’s reservation (maybe they do this for people who book directly? I booked through
and never got anything). The key to our room was waiting for us in an envelope inside the gate – we never actually saw anyone affiliated with the hotel that night, which felt a bit odd.
— The a/​c is centrally controlled and didn’t cool the room down quite as much as we would have liked.
— My wife didn’t think the room was bright enough to facilitate whatever it is ladies do to get ready for weddings.
— The price. For what we paid to stay here, we could have stayed at any number of very nice hotels elsewhere in town. Of course, the location is more central than a lot of those places, and includes breakfast, so you can do your own calculation on that.

I think this ‘might’ be a wonderful place to stay if you are a personal traveler who books directly with the property and arrives during business hours. However as a business traveler who arrived after hours and never got to stay there, it was terrible. First, my company requires that I book via my travel agent. Days prior to my arrival, I left the B&B a voicemail that I needed to reduce my stay from two nights to one and left the the information on the dates. I also left my name & phone #. I arrived about 8pm and the gate was locked with a keypad and no directions. A fellow traveler let me in to check the front porch for keys or a note but there was nothing. I called their voicemail and it asked for my number so they would be sent a text and then return my call. After about 30 min, I went and met other co workers across town. I called to be texted at least 3 times and finally got a return call about 10:30pm. They informed me that they didn’t have my contact information since I booked through a 3^rd party so they had no way of letting me know that they had actually booked me at a different propety in the neighborhood. They told me the keys were in the mailbox and gave me an address. My coworkers and I were not too keen on me wandering around any neighborhood at 11:00pm trying to find keys in a mailbox and hoping that i was opening the right door, so I stayed put and didn’t attempt to find the right property. When I got my bill they charged me for 2 nights (rodeo time in houston) so that was almost $ 500 even though I had let them know in advance I woudl only be staying one night. I contacted the Robin’s Nest but they refused a credit so I contacted B&
(who processed the transaction). They got the Inn to agree to credit one night but I still had to pay for the 2^nd night. The bottom line is that if you are going to work with 3^rd party travel agent to book guests into your Inn the you need to have a way to let them know where and how to check in. At the very least a note that the traveler must contact the Inn directly at least 24 hours prior to check in. Too bad as I think if had been a better experience I might have stayed her frequently. At this point, since I am already $ 250 in the hole, it isn’t worth another try. Sad that they wouldn’t do the right thing or at least leave a note for me at the main property with instructions on where I was actually staying.

Tucked away in the shadow of the med center is the nest. Late 1800’s queen ann type house and compound. Attended a wedding and dinner service. Staff was accommodating and attentive.
Most important… the bride was happy about it all. Some of the party stayed the nite and gave a good report on breakfast and overall accommodations. Looking for the B&B experience surrounded by a historic home in the montrose area? Give it a try.

What a great place to stay.
My mother and I recently came to Houston for three days /​two nights with the sole purpose of going to BHLDN, a phenomenal wedding shop with only two locations, one of which is in Houston.
Since it was to be a fun and special trip, I wanted to find a place for us to stay that was along the same lines, and Robin’s B&B did not disappoint.
We booked Antonio’s Room in the Big Nest. I was emailed directions on how to get in. Check-​in was extremely flexible, as your key was waiting for you. We arrived to a fun and colorful house, and let ourselves into our room which was beautiful. Bright colors, lots of room. Antonio’s Room has a double bed which we shared, as well as its own kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen had it’s own coffee pot, but there was also two in the hall for both coffee and tea, as well as a large pitcher of water. There was a large armoire where I hung the contents of my garment bag, as well as a dresser of drawers if you needed. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I slept soundly through each night.
Downstairs is a beautifully set dining room which changed in color and style each day. There was also a living room where some of the ladies who were staying downstairs would sit at night and enjoy glasses of wine. It was very comfortable and felt like staying at a relative’s house. It was great.
Breakfast itself was great, and was different on the two days that we stayed there. The first morning was scrambled eggs with toast, fruit, bacon and sausage. Next day was pancakes, fruit, and a giant hunk of ham. The tables also had large pots of coffee and large carafes of orange juice and water.
Two notes on breakfast:
*Those tin cups are cute, but when you’re having hot tea instead of coffee, they heat up too much. I burned my hand, and had to leave the tea until I was done eating before the cup cooled down.
**Most importantly, when you reserve the room, they ask very specifically about dietary needs, but at breakfast, it seemed like they didn’t even look at it. For example, if they had, my pancakes wouldn’t have come out with a giant hunk of ham on top. Luckily I’m laid back and just threw it on my moms plate, but there are a lot of people out there who are VERY particular if meat was on their plate, and that wouldn’t fly with them. It’s a strong suggestion to the staff actually. Read those things.
Other than those two notes, we had a flawless stay. Robin was really sweet and the other guests were a lot of fun. It seems as if the guests from the other locations also have breakfast here, so get your butt out of bed and downstairs before they come in and take over the dining room!
Robin’s beats any run of the mill hotel any day, and if I ever return to Houston, this is where I would stay.
Also, tons of street parking.
***OH, and, it would be great if the windows would stay open. I had to prop the window by the bed open with one of my binders to help create some air flow in the room. Otherwise, the windows just fall shut. Also, sometimes it’s nice to be able to open a window in the bathroom, whether it be to let out steam, or other things…

What a great surprise! We were looking for a bed and breakfast with personality in our favorite part of town, and we definitely found it! We had a wonderful room with a full kitchen and extra room with a small bed… far more than we needed, but even with all of that the price was great. Little tables in the patio were perfect for a late night bottle of wine and playing cards. I’m generally shy around strangers, but breakfast was my favorite part. All of the other guests were SO nice and truly a colorful bunch. I wish I had more excuses to go to Houston to stay here.

Robin (yes there is a Robin) is a creative efficient hostess. Her place is very artistic in a relax and enjoy style. Her environment is full of colors and interesting furnishings without being over done. The location is 30 minutes walk from 2 weeks of things to see, do, eat. If you are staying in Houston, you will enjoy this place. I have been visiting Houston for 40 years and found this trip to be in the top all time 3 of enjoyable trips there.

If you like old homes, eccentric art, and/​or you’re tired of typical hotels/B&B’s, I highly recommend Robin’s Nest. I’m staying in Aunt Mae’s room, which means I get a vanity, desk and clawfoot bathtub. This is in the main house, which has a gorgeous porch painted from ceiling to floorboards. Think… Mary Engelbreit meets Antoni Gaudi and you’ll know what to expect.
I spent about an hour on the porch, enjoying the rocking chair and water fountain on a muggy, rainy November day. The owner is super welcoming and accommodating, which is SO refreshing when you’ve spent all day on an airplane. The living room in the main house has a wicker furniture set with lots of cushions, an old-​fashioned telephone for local calls, and a beautifully set dining room.
This is the type of place where you feel like you’re living with some crazy cool aunts, and when you sit outside, the neighbors stare at you, curious about who lives in that cool house.
Seriously, the next time in Houston, I am definitely staying here. It’s a quick bus ride away from the downtown Convention area, and there are some great places to eat and drink within walking distance (i.e. The Black Labrador).

Not sure why my review got filtered last time… but this was a great stay for me near Montrose area, Houston. Very quirky, cool place. Neat Victorian home. Good breakfast and great price and not too far from downtown. I walked to light rail and rode in. I’d go back.
