I can’t complain about the service but please, please, directly ask about cost. I rarely seek medical care and am inexperienced in this regard; coming in for a sore throat resulted in a $ 900 plus bill. This is after my insurance covering much of it. DO NOT GO HERE.

I received treatment here a on a holiday and my doctor and nurse were absolutely wonderful. My wound was treated immediately and they were extremely pleasant.
Their billing, however, is a mess. I received a bill 6 months later for a «doctor’s fee,» with a blank envelope included for me to send payment. When I called about this I asked the man on the phone for an itemized bill, or something informative regarding what I was being charged for. He snarkily replied, «Uh, your doctor’s visit?»
When I asked him what my insurance had covered then, he said «Oh. I can actually get rid of the rest of your balance because we write it off when your insurance pays at least half of your bill.»

So they sent me a bill, which was less «bill» and more «letter» claiming to be their «3^rd attempt to contact me» (it was the first), which I found out I did not actually owe. Whether or not this was maliciously done I don’t know but please be sure to call and get clarification if you receive a similar letter from this place.

Doctors and nurses are professional and quite good. So why the one start review, you ask. Well, because the doctors and nurses are quite good, so they get one star. Otherwise the review will be zero or negative stars. Billing practice is not transparent at all, and while they are diligent about you making sign all the papers, they don’t explain the charges properly, and when you later call them for explanations, the lady in billing gets annoyed at you for asking simple questions. And of course, they do not respond to inquiries made online.
$ 6000 for a one hour visit with a CT scan — it is easy to see this is price-​gouging by simply Googling for prices for similar services. This includes a $ 5000 facility fee — since I had never heard of this before, I Googled it, and realized that the fish is rotten to the core. [It is like you going to Starbucks for a desperate cup of coffee (emergency situation), and you are told the coffee is $ 2 — you are desperate, you say whatever, take a sip, and you get the bill for $ 152 — you wake up instantly on seeing the bill, and say, WHAT??? The arrogant non-​explanation is because you were in an emergency, and because you used our nice facility, you are being charged $ 150 facility fees, along with $ 2 charge for the coffee. Since you already took a sip of the coffee, and you signed the coffee papers because you were desperate, now you are stuck].
Bottom line: a place for looting the most vulnerable customers in emergency situations, who don’t have time for comparison shopping. So, unless you have a fancy insurance that will pay for these services, or unless you are willing to exchange mental and emotional and financial trauma for months to come, seek out other alternatives while you are well, and talk to political representatives to stop these shady practices (remember Martin Shkreli, who raised the price of an essential drug recently from $ 13.50 to $ 750 a pill —
— this is the business model these emergency centers follow — charge what you want, just because the customer is in an emergency situation).

My mom and I were both sick and had gone to 2 other clinics before coming here. The doctor and nurse were thorough and professional. They FINALLY gave us the right medicine to make us feel better.

DO NOT GO HERE unless you like to throw away money. I went in last October 2014 for a scratch on my eye and received two $ 850 charges. I called and the doctor said she could charge whatever she wanted as a doctors fee. Then today (August 2015) I got a call for ANOTHER $ 900. That’s $ 2,600 for less than an hour appointment plus the prescription. Absolutely absurd. I’m sending in letters to report them. They literally rob you.

I went to River Oaks ER center last month. I was having pain in my left side abdomen. There was no one else in the waiting room, so I was taken in right away. Nurse was very nice and explained what they would checkout, procedures including a CT to determine if it was appendicitis. It was not, but I’m not quite sure what I had. The doctor said maybe virus or maybe something else.
All in all, very good service, very clean and professional. I would recommend this medical care facility!

I was involved in a car accident and went here a couple days afterward because of my overwhelming pain. The staff was rude, misleading about payment options, and insensitive to their patients. I have never been treated so poorly at a medical facility.

I recently began having some severe lower abdominal pain. I waited to seek medical care for about a day, thinking it could be gas, a 24-​hour bug, etc, but when the pain wouldn’t cease or even move, I knew I had to go somewhere, even if it was early on a Sunday morning.
I went to the River Oaks Emergency Center clinic — instead of other cllnics in my area — because I knew they had a lot of equipment, like X-​ray machines and a CT scanner. Turns out the CT scan found what was ailing me: acute appendicitis.
Cost me a $ 200 deductible to be treated, and that’s well worth it. I am fortunate to have some really good health insurance through my employer, a multinational oil company.
Dr. Jaime Miravite, M.D. took my case and did a top-​notch job. He first ordered a urine sample, then a blood sample (which showed my white blood cell count at 18,000, which is very high). Thinking I could have a bacterial infection, he gave me a large dose of antibiotics just in case. No complaint there.
Next was a CT scan, and that one revealed my swollen appendix. I’m glad this CT scan machine is not huge, not one of those tunnels you get put into. It was a breeze, even if it was 50 degrees in that room. Gotta keep the machine cool.
When Jaime saw my problem from the CT scanner, he told me he needed to transfer me, NOW (to a hospital). They gave us a choice of where we wanted the ambulance to take me and we chose Methodist. We have had some good outcomes there. The clinic (Jaime or the nurse) then called Methodist and found that they did indeed have a room for me. Check. The ambulance arrived about 20 minutes later and they took me away to Methodist.
All in all, a superb job on the part of everyone at River Oaks Emergency Center, especially Dr. Miravite (pronounced Mir-​a-​VEE-​tay).
I realize my good health insurance probably contributed to my good outcome. I sure wish everyone could have good health insurance, or we get going on Medicare for All.

My family and I have been here several times since they first opened and I am always impressed with how convenient and fast it is to be seen and the professionalism of the staff and doctors. So glad to have this option (it’s saved me from waiting many hours in the emergency room) and would highly recommend!

They charge many hidden fees they don’t tell you about. Once you have been in there then you will be expecting endless bills coming in to your house. Taking advantage of patients, if that is not unethical and immoral. I don’t know what it is.

Please be weary. If your reading this, it may be because you are ill and need care soon. Even though I have great medical insurance, I still ended up paying over a grand out of my own pocket for a 20 – 30 minute visit. Even if you have the best insurance around, they likely will not pay the enormous «facility fees» this place charges. I was completely unaware and was a shocked to get such an enormous bill in the mail a few weeks later. I wish I would have known before hand.

They are the worst!!! I went in with a broken foot on a Saturday. I told them it was broken, they said it just looked like a sprain. They didn’t call me with the results until Sunday night that it was broken! I actually went to my Podiatrist on Monday and it was broken in 3 places! They charged me over $ 1500! I will NEVER go here again!

I took a chance, despite the negative reviews. Why? I guess I just wanted to avoid the typical, crowded ER experience that you have to endure at other facilities. Plus, I have great health insurance. So, I thought I would not run into the same problems others wrote about.
I Unilocaled this place before I went, and saw the low ratings, yet, I took the risk… so, I blame no one for my experience but MYSELF…
So, here is my review:
The staff is friendly and the head doctor is attentive. I was also very surprised that they conducted followup calls to check on my status and recovery. The wait was not long and it is not difficult to locate nor park.
HOWEVER, please be warned… this is NOT an Urgent Care nor a normal ER!!! If you have insurance, they will only pay for your treatment, but not for an additional fee that River Oaks ER charges called a «physician’s fee». This is when my positive impression turned negative.
My advice… go, if you have an emergency and you don’t want to wait the hours at a regular ER. However, be prepared and be certain to inquire about the physician’s fee, which your healthcare provider may or may not pay. (I have never had this type of fee appear when I have gone to a regular ER or to an urgent care facility). I normally pay my co-​pay and that’s it… done! That was not the case with the River Oaks ER.
Thankfully, I am in a very fortunate position to pay this unexpected expense and move on. But, I am warning others, because I know that many people would find the $ 1500 physician’s fee I was charged to be a major financial imposition that was not worth the conveniences this ER offered.
Despite the positive aspects of this ER, in the future, I will skip River Oaks (and advise my colleagues, friends, and family to do the same).

I highly recommend this place! Yes it is pricey but it’s an EMERGENCY room (as implied by the name) so people need to quit complaining about prices!
I came here around 11pm at night. Within 20 minutes of arriving they set me up in a private room with an iv drip of fluids & other medications. (In a public ER I would have been waiting for hours — from previous experience).
The doctors were professional and did a great job at making me feel safe and comfortable. I spent a good portion of the night there — they were extremely thorough which I am so grateful for.

They are basically con artists. They classified my bronchitis as the highest level care needed and billed out a ten minute visit plus prescriptions at $ 1,500.
When two of my friends very nearby burned themselves with scalding water I drove them to the ER on 59 and Kirby by chick fil a so they wouldn’t have to deal with these people.
The state of Texas should take their medical license for overbilling insurance companies (and the uninsured) by claiming minor issues are major and billing like bronchitis is on par with a gunshot wound.

DO NOT GO HERE! This is NOT AN URGENT CARE but an emergency room of sorts.
I got a cut on my forehead and they are charging me for a high level emergency visit and also about $ 1200!!! And that is AFTER insurance. I called in to request a sheet that outlines all of the different emergency levels and they would not provide me with one.
They give you two separate bills one for the «facility» and one for the doctor that sees you.
Go to an urgent care center or better yet your doctor. This place is NOT worth the money or headache. They should tell you before you sign all of the releases that that it is an EMERGENCY ROOM and that you will be charged differently, but then again they pray on sick or hurt people.

Similar to Jeff B below, I too have had a very difficult time coming to grips with how they handle their billing.
My ailment was an infected cut on my arm (which I could have treated myself with neosporin and soap), but thinking that responsible adults got to a doctor, I forced myself to go over there just to get a quick second opinion.
Yes, its a nice place, and the care I got was good (they said I had to get a shot, which was administered by a P.A., not a doctor) but it was not a candidate for an episode of «House.»
I asked for a ballpark figure for how much it was going to cost and they couldn’t give me ANY type of answer. They charged me $ 100 up front gave me a shot, and then sent me on my way. I was just starting a new job and actually had two insurance carriers at the time, so what happened next was an absolute SHOCK. These types of minor visits must happen all the time, so I can’t imagine why they can’t say «it could be as little as X and as much as Y, but it depends on the severity».
I got a bill in the mail for $ 1,600 (for 30 minutes of their time, and much of it was me sitting there alone making sure I didn’t have a bad reaction to the antibiotic). I’ve had a number of conversations with the place and a bunch with my insurance carrier (Blue Cross, they should be getting a 5 star review next) and all I’m told is that it was $ 1,000 or so for the facility and $ 600 for the doctor (BALLPARK ##s!).
My insurance paid out $ 600 for the visit and now I’m left with a bill for $ 1,000… When I call, I never get an explanation as to why it costs so much and never received ANY type of answer about the costs up front. Had they told me that the total bill would be north of $ 250, I would have turned around and bought a $ 3 tube of neosporin from CVS.
A mid 20’s guy walks in an ambulatory center, asks for ballpark #‘s for how much a visit would cost, gets no answer whatsoever but thinks that worst case scenario he’s looking at another $ 100 after the visit is over, then keeps getting bills in the mail for more than 10x the original «door fee» of $ 100? At best, this is highly unethical.
If Marvin Zindler were still alive, perhaps we could count on these guys being held accountable. But luckily, we still have Unilocal to get the word out about this racket so others don’t make the same mistake I (and I’m sure others) did.

They literally saved my life.
I’m one of these people who never gets sick, as in I haven’t had more than a cold in 20 years. Not even a headache. So, this was an unusual experience.
I had some severe abdominal pain, like a stabbing, that came on suddenly and acutely. I drove myself to an Urgent care center (not the same as an Emergency Care center, I later found out), and they couldn’t help me, so I drove a couple of miles to River Oaks Emergency. After administering IV narcotics for the pain, the doctor did an Ultrasound and a CT scan, sent me back to my little room, and within 10 minutes, an ambulance was there with a stretcher. The doctor called another doctor at a nearby hospital and had me pre-​admitted. Within 30 minutes, I had 4 doctors in the hospital standing over me, as I had an internal rupture which was leaking toxic fluids rapidly. I ended up spending 11 days in the hospital and ended up completely healed, but had it not been for the quick thinking and actions of the doctor and staff at River Oaks ER, it could have been much worse.
Yes, it was a ton more expensive than an ER at a hospital. But I was in, on a table and getting tested within 15 minutes. Had I waited the usual several hours at an ER, the toxic fluids could have caused enormous damage. I had no idea the severity of the situation until 4 doctors (2 who were surgeons) stood over me in the hospital and stayed with me every single day for 11 days.
The hospital surgeons are Baylor College of Medicine doctors, and they completely agreed with the diagnosis of the doctor at River Oaks Emergency. The day after I was admitted, they ran a CT scan and compared it with the one the doctor did at River Oaks, and it matched exactly.
I ended up leaving my car at River Oaks Emergency for the 11 days I was in the hospital, and they assured me they’d keep an eye on it. The doctor even moved it for me to a non-​emergency spot the night I was there because she said she didn’t want me to even drive it a couple of spaces. She took my keys and moved it and assured me it would be safe. It was.
I would hate to have to ever go back, but I would recommend it to anyone who needs their services.
