Prestonwood Kennels

I may have just had my last experience at Prestonwood Kennel. I’ve boarded there and had my dogs bathed and groomed in the past — I have large dogs so to get a bath for $ 45 is a real bargain. However, the last time one of my dogs was bathed and groomed his tail was *annihilated* and other than a phone call, there was nothing offered despite the fact that it was a terrible job.
This brings me to my boarding experience today. They have a noon cutoff time for pickup before new charges are added. I was leaving San Antonio this morning and not entirely in control of my departure time and I got on the road a bit later than I’d planned:
(1) I called @ 10am to tell them I was running a bit late and likely wouldn’t be there for my noon pickup and was told it would be «no problem.»
(2) When I arrived at 12:45 the owner was doing some leash work in the lobby with a small-​ish dog and at one point she jerked the leash so hard the dog flipped and rolled. It was beyond appalling, especially as the owner promotes herself as a trainer.
(3) They brought my dog up and he wasn’t wearing his collar. He didn’t get a bath during his stay so it’s a total mystery — and disturbing — that his collar was missing. I know the facility had a dog get out of the facility last year, had it been my dog and I learned they’d removed his collar I would have been beyond outraged.
(4) They tried to charge me for a full day for being 45 minutes late. I said I understood but that I’d called in advance to let them know. I said I wasn’t willing to pay for a full day for being not even an hour late but that I was more than happy to pay for the hour. The owner stepped in at this point to tell me, «We’re not a whorehouse ma’am, we don’t charge by the hour.» Yes, really.
There are other options out there for boarding your pet, you have the option of choosing one run with integrity and true care for your companion and that would exclude Prestonwood from consideration in my opinion.

I adopted my poodle-​mix from here and I love the staffs compassion for animals. I take my pet «Tyson» there to have his nails done by Frieda, she is great!

I have boarded my dog on 2 separate occasions in the last six weeks. Each time he was boarded for 4 days. I am so pleased with this kennel. My dog seems well cared for and is happy when I pick him up! I used to pay for a pet service to come to my house but I haven’t always had the best result with doing that. I wasn’t sure I wanted my dog to be at a kennel as he is used to having free reign at the house. I am so happy that I have found Prestonwood-​I feel very confident in how my dog is being treated. When you drop by this facility, they don’t have a problem in showing you any area of the kennel — very upfront and open. This tells me a lot about how the animals are cared for. I’m hoping that we have a very long and happy relationship with Prestonwood Kennels!
Oh I almost forgot — they allow you to bring your animals’ stuff, bed, blanket, toys, etc!

Toured the place this morning and it sounded wonderful. The staff was also super friendly. I was looking into their «social club» or doggie day camp for tomorrow and was told I could drop off my dog for a day of fun camp by an awesome staffer. I just got off the phone after trying to make an appointment and was told they don’t currently have the camp on weekends. Now I don’t have time to tour another camp after thinking I was going to book there. The place looked great but the information I received was very different two different times. This is disappointing, just something to keep in mind if you’re looking into this business.

I used to live in Houston and this is the only place my little dog liked staying. My toy fox terrier is almost 16 and she loved staying in the vip or senior area. They gave her the attention she needed and always give a report card. Now, I live out of town and when I travel back, my pet comes with me in order to stay here. I simply haven’t found anywhere that even comes close to comparing to this place.

I can only speak for the Social Club (doggie daycare) aspect of this place but I was thrilled with what I experienced.
The staff was always helpful and pleasant. They would greet my dog by name when we came in and she’d run over to greet them.
After a few weeks, my dog would literally drag me in the building. She couldn’t wait to go play and she was always tired at the end of the day.
It was a pretty good deal at $ 19 a day and if you buy a package, it’s even less.
Highly recommended daycare for the bouncy dog in your life.

Horrible pricing and care here. STEER CLEAR! They will quote you one amount then when you come to pick up and pay they’ve conveniently added a ton of hidden charges. I brought my older dog during an off peak time and requested the senior suite. I was told it would be no problem. I came back to pick up my dog, requested to see where he was staying (as the sign says… anyone is welcome in the kennels anytime) however they wouldn’t let me go back and said he was already being walked to the front. TEN MINUTES LATER I finally get my dog back and he was shaking and noticeably uncomfortable. They didn’t care. said it was normal. To top it off they couldn’t explain why they have HIDDEN fees and I spent over $ 50 more than originally quoted for «play times, potty breaks, and a daily health charge because he’s a «senior»…even though he’s in perfect health and active). I didn’t request these extras as I figured my dog would be played with and loved on during their off peak time and yet STILL got charges… Ridiculous. I will NEVER board here again.

Simply love Prestonwood Kennels and all the wonderful work they do with Man’s best friends!

I’m new to the area and think of our 2 dogs as our children. We stopped by for a tour and the staff was more than accommodating! We booked a stay while we were on vacation and they accommodated my dogs’ allergies and special food bowls. I felt very comfortable with the kennel and the pups looked very happy when we picked them up. I’ll certainly use and recommend them in the future.

Fairly friendly staff – until they find out you have a large dog or pit. Then they give you the owner’s number to call her yourself and be grilled. She is not very friendly. The conversation started on her side with «first of all, is this for boarding or what…»

Always a great visit with these guys. Our dog is always so happy to go to Prestonwood and everyone is pretty friendly. They are definitely a pricey place at $ 25 a night and they charge you for an overnight even if you pick up your dog in the evening. I think, if the dog doesn’t stay overnight we shouldn’t be charged that way.
We get the rub-a-tummy’s daily and we get a piece of paper back with each person describing the visit. neat bonus. Those are $ 8. And if you want pool time it’s even more.

This is the place if you want to get a poodle from a rescue (Poodle Rescue of Houston), and they’ve got ‘em all: standard, mini, and toy. Their standards go quick, though, so FYI.
The dogs they have are great, but their organization style is poor. We adopted our dog from them, and from start to finish, it was a bit frustrating. We got our dog temporarily as a foster until she was clear of her medical conditions, but as with a rescue, stuff crops up. They have an in-​house vet, so we have to take her back every time something crops up, or we pay out of pocket. We’re grateful, don’t get us wrong, especially now that we have to pay for all her vet visits, but from EaDo to Willowbrook? Oh Lord help us. And we’re never given the complete answer: we’d have to go through several channels, and even then the explanations are varied and vague. The dog our dog was rescued with died of liver failure, so they were extra careful with ours after, but it also meant more of a run-around.The owner herself, on her last visit, asked us if we still wanted to adopt our dog. Um, WTF? Of course; if we didn’t, we wouldn’t have been dealing with all this, right?!
Given another chance, yes, we would probably adopt from them again, but hoo boy.

Wow! What a beautiful, huge, clean kennel and a Poodle Rescue.
They rescue different breeds, but you have to visit to find out what dogs are available.

I’ve used Prestonwood Kennels the past 3 years. We’ve kept our english springer spaniel there at least 7 – 14 days. It’s conveniently on the way to Intercontinental Airport.
My dog is 11 years old so I opt to keep him in the senior ward. It’s a smaller section, large enough kennels (lots of room) in a quieter section. He’s let out 4 times daily for restroom breaks and fed twice a day. My next door neighbor works 2 miles from the kennel so I have her visit him at least 3x a week for walks. They have no problem with outsiders taking your dog out. Of course I left them clear instructions and a permission note for her.
Overall I’m happy with their services, never found any issues with my dog after he’s been there awhile. I’ll continue to use them in the future.
