Kipper Club Test Kitchen

I think Kipper Club will be happy that I, an Elite Unilocaler, am giving them 3 stars to keep the crowds and non-​foodie purists away. You’re welcome, guys!
In any case, the space is a former soul food restaurant. Very humble and is in a shopping strip adjacent to a gas station convenience store. It’s kind of in the hood so be smart when you go. Be sure to check your email prior to the event. You will get instructions on where to park as it changes depending on the day (i.e. you might park in the BBQ Inn lot across the street if it’s a Sun or Mon, or you might park at a further lot and be shuttled to Kipper Club on another day).
The concept is different than any other place in Houston. Kipper Club is a space where famous/​rising chefs can go to try out new concepts either prior to opening their brick & mortar restaurant, or seeing if a concept is successful at all before pursuing. Hence, don’t be surprised if you get a few duds here and there. Check their website regularly to see which chefs and menus will be available. The price point ranges depending on the chef, cuisine, amount of courses, etc.
The place is BYOB so we popped into the convenience store and bought some cervezas for the meal. Don’t expect stellar service as it isn’t really a regular restaurant with a regular wait staff. You’re there to test out of the food. Be prepared to be seated at the long community table in the middle. You’ll make new friends.
In short, I may go back if it’s something I REALLY want to try. But overall, the prices are pretty steep for an unpolished product. You’re paying to be an early-​adopter/​guinea pig and not necessarily an amazing meal. No guarantees!
