I tried their baked potato with chopped brisket and everything on it. it was really good plus you can get the bbq sauce on the potato or on the side. staff is really friendly. yes, the place is dated but then again, its a bbq place, and its clean(have not used their bathrooms though) but, don’t expect to walk in and find modern furniture after all is called hickory BARN.

Bbq that is not fantastic and not terrible. It is acceptable. Had chicken today and unlike another reviewer’s complaint it wasn’t very smoky. Bbq sauce to go with it either on it or on the side had a good flavor. Generous with the French fries. Will try a brisket sandwich or the ribs next time.

Great food, friendly staff… Ribs, chicken fried steak and brisket are amazing! We eat here at least a couple of times a month and the food is always excellent

Customer service was bad. No one greeted us when we walked in. Very poor interaction which made me want to leave originally. What made it worse is that the actual barbecue was less than mediocre. The fries were from a freezer. I’m not that picky with my food, but I couldn’t even eat these ribs. Not good at all.

I really like this place. Been craving ribs for the longest and finally get to eat some good ribs. This is the joint, I ordered their rib basket with fries and the sides of potato salad and beans. Delicious thumbs up for me.

Just ate at my favorite barbecue restaurant in Houston. I think they have been at this location since the 1980’s. Real smoke barbecue with hickory wood! Not like the B.B.Q. Restaurant in the Fountain! NOSMOKE! NOREALWOODUSEDTHERE(Otto’s). Hickory barn or Kiddy’s BBQ(same place) been smoking since 1953 !! Great ribs, great brisket and chicken. Ask for Michael the owner or Mr Donny the smoking king. THEYDOCATERINGTOO

This place has very bland BBQ. Actually, very smokey BBQ. Like, too smokey. Each bite felt the same as inhaling smoke, it actually made me cough. I didn’t finish my food because I just couldn’t deal with the taste. However, if you’re into that kind of extreme smoke taste this place is definitely for you!

Had them cater lunch at our office for thanksgiving. They brought us INSTANT mashed potatoes and INSTANT sweet potatoes… is this a joke? Are they cooking in a college dorm room? Do they only have microwaves? Edit…just had the pumpkin pie, wow, wish I could give negative stars. There is no excuse for this. This pie tastes like it was made by Isis.

The chopped beef sandwich is good, they don’t chop it fresh(like right in front of you) and it’s pre mixed with the bbq(which is tasty) unless you ask for the sauce on the side… then they have to chop it fresh :) My husband and son eat the sausage and they really enjoy that. As for the sides. We’re not big fans. The fries are good, the potato salad is ok and the green beans in my opinion are bland. But you can’t mess up the BBQ and chips combo so that’s always an option.

I ate there two days in a row if that tells you anything. The staff is nice and the ribs, brisket, and chopped beef sandwich are amazing! The chicken and sides are decent. It’s worth the trip if you are in the Houston area, imo.

Love this place. The food is great & the atmosphere is just what you’d want from a BBQ joint. Great ribs, fried steaks & love their chopped beef salads.

I ended up here because Otto’s was closed. I ordered a loaded potato and bbq sauce on the side. The potato was great but the bbq sauce, like a previous reviewer said, tastes like tomato sauce. I had to add a bunch of pepper, garlic and salt to make the barbecue sauce edible. Excellent service, really polite workers, but unfortunately the barbecue sauce was just… no. Also this is not the kind of place that I would want to eat at. It was very dated and creepy looking. Very… Brown and dark and 1970’s –ish But…like I said, it was decent, just not outstanding

Decently priced for as good as the food is. I got the chopped brisket sandwich & my significant other got the rib plate. Both were AMAZING. Will be back for sure. Ribs fall off the bone. I know this is weird, but their fountain coke was on point as well, I’m a sucker for a good fountain drink.

If your looking for good Authentic BBQ this is not it… Their BBQ sauce taste like tomatoe soup. I order a side of fried and once I got home they were soft and wet. I love good BBQ this place needs to go get tips from Memphis.

I came to this place with high hopes and I was not too disappointed. I ordered the BBQ rib plate for $ 11.99. The plate came with a decent amount of ribs with 2 side dishes. I ordered the macaroni and cheese and the baked beans. The mac & cheese was real good with a real thick hearty cheese sauce. The macaroni noodles were big and thick. I was not quite as impressed with the baked beans. I was hoping for a nice, thick sweet consistency but that is certainly not what i got. The beans were a bit watery and had a certain spice to them. More like ranch beans that baked beans. On to my ribs! The plate came with 4 – 5 ribs and they were quite meaty and tasty. I was asked by the server if i wanted bbq sauce with them and i said, «hell yes!» The sauce was quite nice and a bit of a sweet flavor, which i like. My total ticket came out to $ 15 and change. I thought that this plate was a bit on the pricey side. I would have liked to see this plate, with a drink, come in around $ 10 and change. However, I will be back to try the nice looking half chicken that they had in the serving bar! it’s worth a try if you are in the Stafford area! By the way, the service was very good and friendly.

Delicious! It’s about the same price as any other barbeque joint, but it’s totally worth it for the flavor and the amount of food you get. Ribs are fall-off-the-bone, smoky, and drool-worthy. I’m drooling just thinking about it. The catfish is fried to perfection. Home cut fries from legit potatoes. You can sub your coleslaw for mac and cheese(which is considered a veggie here). Never a long line. Food comes out fast. The only downfall I’d say is that it’s on the not-so pretty side of town.

One time I left my purse here with my iPad mini and a wallet with about 200 bucks in it… Didn’t even notice until the next day… I went by the next day and the manager had my back… Everything inside completely untouched! Good people… Great baked potatoes! Huge and delicious! Quiet family friendly place and the service is always great!

Great ribs, great service. This location is in some random location — but found it through Unilocal.so glad to have came here to try out their pull-pork sandwich, bbq ribs, and their sides. Everything was very solid. Order and find your own seats. The staff were all professional and the place seem very clean. Will definitely come back here again!

I’m sure it’s a neighborhood favorite. It’s right by my job so I figure I’d stop in. Lots of parking. The inside is decorated 1980’s style, which is usually a good sign. The staff was friendly enough. I got my plate of brisket and sausage… and I just wasn’t happy. Brisket was dry and the sausage was meh. I don’t think this was an off day for them. This is their conception of barbecue, and there were plenty of people at other tables enjoying it. If you ever get the opportunity to tend a smoker for 12 hours straight, no beer in hand, just you, the fire, the smoke, and some logs — you’ll start to appreciate how much work goes into making bbq. And you’ll see how hard it is to continually turn out good product. With that knowledge though, you just can’t excuse what’s happening here.

A friend of mine told me this place has been in existence for over 20 years, so I naturally assumed the obvious — stellar BBQ, right? Well, I was half right, half wrong. There is one particular joint that has set the standards for me when it comes to finger lickin’ good bbq. I expected the same at Hickory, but I was sadly disappointed in the one thing I LOVE about bbq — brisket. Their brisket was dry, dry, dry. I had to drench it in bbq sauce just to make it moist enough to stomach. Maybe they overcooked the batch that I ate? Who knows. It just didn’t meet my expectations. Now to the good: potato salad and coleslaw, the perfect sides to any bbq dish. This is what I’m talking about! They surprised me here. The potato salad had the perfect blend of seasoning and the coleslaw was fresh and crisp. You just have to try it. Now I didn’t have any other type of meat here, so I have yet to go back and update this review one day. Till then, I stand firm on the brisket disappointment.
