GB Westchases’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program offers top level BJJ instruction, classes are taught by GB and IBJJF certified black belts. Our BJJ classes are offered from 6am to 8pm, giving students ample opportunity to attend many classes each week. Gracie Barra Westchase’s BJJ programs are designed specifically for each age and skill levels and our goal is to have a place for everyone who wants to learn BJJ no matter what their personal goals are.

The Cardio Kickboxing classes provide a fun and different approach to getting in an amazing workout! These classes are high energy and faster paced than the instructional-​based programs. Instructors utilize variations of punching/​kicking, body weight exercises, weights and a great abdominal workout in every class.

Our Wrestling Program yields a competitive training environment lead by Wrestling Coach Babak Nourzad, who competed with the Olympic Wrestling team of Iran in the 2004 Olympics. Nourzad takes a traditionally tough, yet exceptionally productive approach to his wrestling program at GBW, teaching adults and kids classes.

The Muay Thai Program at GBW is a more in depth, instructional-​geared class that teaches proper form and the traditional techniques of Muay Thai, which is a stand up sport from Thailand. These classes can compliment your productivity in Cardio Kickboxing, teach you useful techniques for MMA, and are a great workout as well!

Professor Ulpiano Malachias has been active in martial arts for all of his life, but has dedicated the last 17 years to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is a second degree black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr, the founder of Gracie Barra and son of Master Carlos Gracie. In 2006, Professor Ulpiano began teaching as a black belt at Gracie Barra Headquarters, and soon opened his own school, GB Santa Ana, the first Gracie Barra Premium School. He taught there until 2011, when he decided to move to Houston and open Gracie Barra Westchase, where he teaches daily all the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Professor Ulpiano is still an active competitor in IBJJF tournaments around the country, an experienced MMA fighter, and a loving husband and father.

Both of my sons go here for kickboxing and Brazilian ju jutsu and they have both gotten very good here, they have classes mostly everyday and from 5 to 6. They also have great coaches and professors. I would highly recommend Gracie Barra!

I’ve started my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey back in Brazil, where I got to the blue belt. I thought I was a decent grappler until I went to this school. I’ve been with Gracie Barra Westchase since May/​2014, and only have good things to say about the instructors, environment, hygiene and service. I just wish I can intensify my training, and just keep coming to class. Professors Ulpiano Malachias and Inacio Neto are active competitors, really strong technically, and they do a great job in instilling their love for Jiu Jitsu to all students. Great place to be.

Once you come, they will welcome you and give you a trial class for free.
Then you will find very detail oriented and systematic lessons from globally well known professors.
And the students here!!!
They have so many students, you can find all different levels of sparring partners.

Gracie Barra Westchase (GBW) is an outstanding martial arts and fitness option for all levels. Professor Ulpiano and the staff are world class people and instructors. The atmosphere created by the instructors, and training partners meets anyone’s interests from professional, competition, fitness to recreational levels.
GBW offers several classes on any given day, ranging from competition BJJ, Muay Thai, kick boxing cardio, kids, beginner and advanced Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. Give any of the beginner classes a try and I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself. I’ve seen a lot of lives changed positively at GBW over the past four years.
The facilities, outstanding black belt instructors, and great people at GBW make for a fun and encouraging Martial Arts experience. Oss

I took Muay Thai classes here for about six months. During that time, there 3 instructors changes making it very difficult to learn the basics (since they are teaching completely techniques without any hand off between the instructors). When I went to cancel my membership due to increase in work and school, they encouraged me to freeze my account instead with a promise of a credit whether I choose to cancel or renew at a later date. When I return to cancel after the account being auto renewed, they refused to provide the credit as promised and I had to pay 3 months of unused membership.
Keep in mind they require 2 months of additional membership to cancel, so be sure to add that into the total cost when you sign up!

Watch out for this place and their «Auto-​Renew» policy when you sign the contract!!! My contract was over and I wasn’t aware of the auto-​renew and I left to go overseas as I work for an oil and gas company. I was in the process of buying a home when I was advised that there was a charge from Gracie Barra on my credit report. After further discovery when I called I was advised about the auto renew and I was livid. I was advised that I owed like $ 600. This was a rip off if I’ve never seen one. So please make sure you read the contract very carefully or these ppl will rip you off and not even try to settle the debt with you! I am very displeased as my previous review was a great one!!! oh well, I will be filing a complaint with the BBB!!!

I’ve recently returned to GB after a month long hiatus and I was reminded of why I continue to come to this gym. I tried out a cardio class in January with a Groupon and met Oss and survived his class. I then joined as regular for Muay Thai working with Ali Salami and number of students who genuinely enjoyed the workout, the environment and the people.
The place is cleaned frequently and you get used to the smell of hard work after a few visits. Changing room is decent, plenty of mat space and each coach had their own music style for workouts; it is never loud and gets you pumped.
The staff is awesome including the coaches and guests who have piloted a class. Servando is extremely helpful and he along with the other coaches truly care about the people who walk through the door. It’s family.
I’ve only participated in cardio and MT, watched a few wrestling classes and BJJ, but I’m sticking to what I know. They recently started a kids’ class for muay Thai and this is truly a place for you, young or old if you have a goal to achieve, whether it is fitness, preparing for a fight, or just needing some self discipline and stress relief. Show up prepared for class, be nice, be willing to sweat and you’ve found yourself a home, not a gym.
Note: no water fountains, only vending machine. They also offer a free class for first time people just call ahead and parking can get crazy on weekends because of The Egg and I, but you rarely circle for more than a few minute.

My family couldn’t be happier with our choice! Late 2012 we were on a search for a new martial arts academy after the one my kids had attended closed their doors. We tried one academy for 2 month and were EXTREMELY disappointed. Then we were referred to Gracie Barra– Westchase and we have been enrolled ever since. My boys (6 and 7 years) now have found a mentor in their coaches and learn about anti-​bullying. We feel loved, appreciated and cared for at GB– Westchase. We are family now!

I started going here in November after I bought a Groupon for 10 sessions. The cardio kickboxing classes were so great, that I signed up for membership. The instructors are awesome and give you different routines to do, encourage and motivate you. It’s an hour of non-​stop workout. Classes are offered each day and it’s a convenient location.
I definitely encourage you to try the Groupon or a free class. While you can exercise alone at home or a fitness gym, it’s not the same as exercising in a group with instructor. You work harder, learn new things and make friends.

Four months later my son and husband both still love it. My boy just turned four and is discovering new skills and a LOT of pride. He enjoys learning therefore he is listening and even practicing his skills outside of class. I don’t know many institutions that can motivate a four year old to «train» like that. Great atmosphere and a great way to get yourself in shape and learn how to defend your self. Plus now they are adding more space and programs to make it even better. If there were a 6th star I’d choose that.
