Game Over Videogames

Horrible service and the employees are extremely lazy. I arrived 15 minutes before they closed and they refused to give me service. Their reasoning was they didn’t want to start a transaction before closing time because they wanted to go home. I’ve been going to this store since it opened and have provided a lot of business. Not only did they refuse me service but they were extremely rude about it. I drove 30 minutes to make it before closing time and still they turned me away. I have never been treated so poorly by a couple of low lfe employees that only wanted to close so they could go get hi. Extremely disappointed and I advise others to forego this treatment and go to gamestop, a much better alternative.

They are very rude in this store. They never asked us if we needed help and when we finally asked if they had a Nintendo 64, he went in the back and said oh no we don’t when they clearly had one sitting in the glass case. Incredibly unhelpful, go to gamestop!
Update: went back on another occasion with different employees and couldn’t tell you the difference in experience. I thought about taking my original post off, but I wanted to show the difference in experiences. We walked in 10 minutes until closing and both employees checked our console, cleaned it, and gave us suggestions and help with our issues. Definitely will be back and hoping for more positive interactions like the one we had tonight! :)

First place I check if I need an older game. There is a lot of things I want to get in the store but if I did I would be broke. Currently looking for secret of mana. Will get it for the right price.

2 stars only because it’s a local business and because they have a pretty decent inventory of nostalgic games & hardware, but the staff has absolutely no social/​customer service skills and it took FOREVER to get someone to help me. The prices are high, so I would definitely check other avenues (e-​bay, Craigslist) before coming in, unless this is your last resort.

I dig this place. Every time I go, there are a variety of new old games to tempt me, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The prices for the low-​end old games are maybe just a little high, but there are really good deals on the middling and high-​end stuff to be found. I like to roll by here before I buy something on eBay because 1) there’s a pretty good chance they have it 2) it’s usually cheaper here (even before shipping) and 3) I can play it that day. Not to mention, it’s handy to be able to shop vintage and current-​gen at the same time.

Remember when you had to blow into your Nintendo games for them to work? Game Over lets you relive those days! Retro gaming merch at its finest. You’ll find everything from Pong to Pac-​Man, Contra to GTA, to any new game or console out today.
I’m a sucker for nostalgia, so I relish in these type of stores. Their catalogue is deep and they even have some imports. If you’re into old gaming mags or accessories, they’ve got that too. Can’t find something in-​store, look on their website.
You can buy or even sell your old games & consoles, but sometimes I can’t help but feel slighted on both ends. Their prices aren’t bad, but often, I’ve found that if I look a little bit (the equivalent of a Google search), I’ll find cheaper prices somewhere else. Don’t let that deter you though, go check them out.
Their employees are extremely knowledgeable too. Nice store and interesting concept. Check them out!

Great selection of old classic video games but the prices are a ripoff. NES & SNES games for $ 15 to $ 25 prices for games for these 2 systems they should be like max $ 6 to $ 8 most are like $ 3 to $ 5. If you want a good deal check out Ebay or Cragislist I have seen playstation 3 bundles with 2 controllers and 3 to 5 games for under $ 250 on Craigslist. This store is worth checking out good prices on anything from Playstation 2 and newer older stuff is a mega ripoff.

Love this place. Would never have left… but I ran out of money.

It stinks! It may seem like a nice alternative to GameStop at first, especially if you are into retro games, but it’s not. It is too bad, especially with their stock and their mini-​museum. The return policy is just horrid. Store credit only and no exchanges for cash. Rip-​off central right there. Avoid!
If you do like retro games (as do I), may I suggest 3D Games or Half Price Books instead?

If you’re looking for selection and good prices Game Over has both. People working there are knowledgeable and friendly even if you’re just there to browse. Even if you don’t know what you’re there for Game Over is a fun place to hang out.

This is a great store for all video game enthusiasts and fans. Great service and prices. The tournaments are always fun!

I’m done with this store. I can’t say all, but most of the employees I’ve dealt with have the worst social skills. You’d think a retro game store would be chill and you could talk NES with the employees or ask them common questions you feel like you shouldn’t have to google for the answer, but that’s not the case. Another key word here is UNEDUCATED. …unless maybe you’re into the latest handheld systems… If you’re looking for something particular that’s older than PS2 you will be way better off just doing 5 minutes of research on google and then purchasing whatever you need on eBay. My problem is I like to support local retail businesses. Stores like this give me a reason to shop online and I don’t like that. Anyone who buys anything here is blind, lead by the blind. I’ll never walk into this store again. I’ve said it before and tried to give it a second chance. No more.

Depending on the system you’re looking for, they have a pretty good selection of games, hardware and accessories. Service by Luis was super friendly and very knowledgeable when speaking to the other customers. He was kind enough to let me open an iPhone case so I could see it in total. That was pretty cool of him, as I know he didn’t have to.
If this place was closer to me, I’m sure I’d visit this place a whole lot more. But if you’re a collector, I’d recommend checking it out if you’ve never been. Lots of different systems and games for sure.

My husband and I are game collectors and have visited numerous retro stores throughout Texas hunting down games. While Game Over Video Games is a little more pricey than many other places, it’s still one of the best:
1. They have a great selection of games from all the gaming systems. While many places might just have NES, SNES, Sega, etc., Game Over has those AND Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, TI games, Sega Master, Coleco, vision, Sega CD, 32x, etc. They also have a wide selection online that has free shipping if you order more than $ 50.00.
2. They have a wide selection of all the accessories for the systems.
3. The games are much cleaner than most of the other places.
4. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
It’s a great place to find some games, especially the older ones that no one else likes to stock.

From the desk of Jacelyn’s boyfriend: Nostalgic place to buy retro video games. If you’re looking for older systems or games, this is the place to get it. They also host a very cool classic game festival in Austin. A little pricey, but you do get instant gratification on your purchases as opposed to ebaying it. I regret to say that their customer service is less than stellar. Don’t get me wrong — there are a couple of times when we’ve gone and had a great experience. The times that were not great were AWFUL. First, my girlfriend went there to surprise me with a new snes system and some games, she says she got good service picking out some games ($ 120 for 3, plus extra controllers). She asked about the return policy and the guy selling to her assured her that they would accept the exchange through January. We went back together to exchange a couple of the games (I wanted Mario and Zelda) and some Sheldon Cooper argued like hell that absolutely they could not because it was not their policy to do that, and all but called her a stupid liar. Pissed me off. Fortunately from out of nowhere the dude who helped her showed up and cleared everything up for us and we were able to make the exchange. Second, they had an issue with their gift cards not working at the point of sale, so after waiting for 40 minutes (they had the snes available to keep me occupied) the store clerk offered to extend a discount of 30% to me if he could hold on to my gift card there at the register, I could take the game home, and come back later when it was up and running. No problem — I went about my business, came back later, it still wasn’t working. He asked if I could return another day, so I did. The clerk at that time refused to honor the agreement. Annoying, but I dealt with it, even though it was about a $ 25 discount. Went back to go spend the remainder of my gift card. 8:45 pm I roll up to the store and as I’m getting out, I see a girl haul ass to the back, and a dude comes running out to the front to LOCK ME OUT. No joke! Couldn’t believe it. I showed him the time on my phone arguing that I still had time to shop and I knew what I wanted, but he yelled that they were closing and walked away. I want to support small businesses, but I will not shop there again. I hope management catches wind of this review and tries to get to the bottom of the situation so it doesn’t happen again.

Decent selection of games. Not great. Cool little museum in the back. My biggest gripe is that they do not cut you any deals on the games. All games are retail only and they seem to have a zero haggle policy. Had I known this I would have never have walked in. They sell used games for crying out loud. They should work deals with you especially when buying in bundles. No decent retro gamer should ever buy a retro video game at sticker price. Always try to cut a deal. Even if it’s only a dollar off.

It’s like this place sells memories of my childhood. Absolutely priceless!
I am so happy that I discovered this store. Two aspects absolutely amaze me about this place:
1. The games/​consoles that are sold are at fantastic prices.
2. The customer service is EXTRAORDINARY! The employees also seemed to know everything about every video game known to man!
I purchased a Sega Genesis console for $ 40 and a bunch of cartridges. (More specifically, Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Streets of Rage 1, Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe). None of the cartridges cost more than $ 20, which is a huge bargain!
Now, I do have to point out the games and systems are refurbished, so KEEP YOUR RECEIPT. I had trouble getting Sonic to jump and spin dash when I started playing, so I brought back the system. They checked it out and immediately traded it for a new one.
Recently, this store has been becoming super popular, so the higher-​demanded games tend to sell out quickly. For example, you’ll almost never be able to find Super smash for N64. So you better hurry and get familiar with this store before it becomes super famous! Re-​discover your childhood!

These guys rock. Bought a used (1^st gen fatty) ps3 from them, only to have it sadly get the red blinking light of death two weeks after getting it. Needless to say, I was majorly bummed.
Thankfully, Game Over did right by me. After bringing it back, they offered me a replacement no questions asked. Not only that, but I was able to upgrade to the slim model for only $ 20 extra. BONUS-​they let me keep all the controllers and cables from the broken ps3 at no charge. How sweet is that? Pretty sweet.
They even went the extra mile to get my friend’s game out from the dead console. After some quick googling, Brian was able to crack it open n get the disc out no problem.
I couldn’t be happier with how it went. Aside from that, they have the best selection of games in Houston and are awesome in general. These guys are good people.

I live way over on the North West side of Houston, near Greens Point area, but this store is well worth a trip at least once or twice a month! Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The selection is outstanding and ever changing.
I now find myself buying more retro games than new games.

Wow this store is a shrine to all things gaming and gaming retro. They have so many classic titles and assorted merchandise reasonably priced similar to amazon. I also thought the gaming art by local artists was a nice touch if not slightly overpriced. I came in to sell some of my older games and my GameCube. It was like parting with old friends by putting my games on the counter, but it had to be done. 15 minutes later, I get my offer and it was probably about a fourth of what I paid for everything but you can’t expect much for resale. The lady was nice enough to break out what was common, uncommon and rare for me. You get double the store credit compared to what you get in cash. Also keep your boxes even for gaming systems because they up the value of your trade ins. I clutched my store credit and waved goodbye to my dear friends hoping they will go to a good home.
