I have really LOVED my hair since Ashley started cutting it. It was always a bit of an issue until her magic style unlocked the AMAZING body and curl that used to just frizz and hang. You can take one look at her and see she has taste and is cutting edge — but her cut for me was so fluffy and romantic and yet it is still so long and full of shape.

Went here for the first time recently and was very happy with my results. Little to no wait time and was offered a drink up on arrival. Tyler did a great job and really listened to what I had in mind. He made conversation but didn’t talk too much :-) Definitely will be back in the new year!

Did I seriously pay $ 200 for highlights and a haircut?! I thought well, this lady better be a magician for that price… But boy was it worth it! Hannah is SO nice and explained to me what she was doing and asked and showed me how much she was going to cut off. She asked about my life and shared about hers. When you go ask for Hannah! :)
Also, the front desk girl was good. She answered all my pricing questions and did it with a smile!

I have been going to Ashley for 12 years, way back when she had her salon on Sunset.
She is in a word, a magician.
My hair is very difficult in every way possible. Ashley highlights my hair, blows out my hair, and people literally stop me and ask who does my hair. This happens in the grocery store, walking down the street, and even when I am eating in a restaraunt.
Every time I say, «okay, this is your best, ever,» then the next time, I say, «no this is your best.» For 12 years, I keep saying it. Her blow outs last for days and days. Ashley’s cuts are perfection. And she is FAST. Ash can blow me out in about 30 minutes and I have long hair and bangs and some weird areas that do not behave.
Ashley’s new Salon, Fringe Color Bar and Salon is on W Alabama, right across from Flemings, between Kirby and Greenbriar. Plenty of parking.
Every stylist at Fringe Salon is a professional. As the owner, and a professional, Ashley hires very carefully and each stylist must apprentice before they are allowed to go solo.
I must praise Haley at Fringe as well. She is my «go to» girl for extensions. There is NO ONE better. AND, Haley, too, is fast. When I get extensions from Haley, they are perfect. She matches Ashley’s highlights perfectly. Haley is certified and has a special technique of bonding the extensions to your hair.
My extensions DO NOT FALL OUT and last for months. I just get them tightened every couple months when I get highlight touch ups. I get a new set once a year. I have been going to Haley for a little over 3 years.
I am amazed by the fact that her extensions do not fall out, even when I am over due to get them tightened. I scuba dive, ride a bicycle, am in the wind and am a person who is rough on my hair (I put it in scrunchies and clips) and no worries.
Haley also blows my hair out, in fact EVERY Monday. Haley’s blow outs are perfection as well. Ashley spent time teaching Haley the tricks to my hair, when Haley was an apprentice.
Now Haley is my «go to» girl on Mondays, actually any time. Haley too can blow me out in about 40 minutes even with lots of extensions (which means lots of hair to blow out!).
I want to add that, I can also comment on many other stylists at Fringe. There have been times, since Fringe opened when Ash and Haley have not been available.
Each stylist is selected carefully, serves as an apprentice initially, continues up to date training and there is always professional oversight.
You may think you you can go to a less expensive Salon, however, in reality you save money and time by becoming a client of Fringe.
At Fringe, the cuts are perfect, you don’t have to spend time finding someone to make corrections, the highlights are so good you will never have a worry or, again, try to correct bad color.

No more omg experience after a bad cut, bad color, bad blow out when you are headed to an occasion in an hour.
The extensions last and do not fall out, the blow outs last for days and days and no cut correction.
In reality you save money and time going to Fringe. I know I have.

Hannah is a hair color magician! She is a perfectionist, something I absolutely value in a hair stylist. She is sweet and easy to talk to and my hair looks amazing! I’ve been flying to my hometown of Oklahoma City for 4 years to get my hair done, because I was scared to try someone new in Houston. After reading a ton of reviews, I decided to give Fringe a try. I’m SO happy I did! Ask for Hannah, you wont be disappointed!

I’ve been going here for almost 2 years and have a great experience ever time. Haley is my hair stylist. She is super sweet, very knowledgeable, and does exactly what I want. If you don’t know what color or style cut you want she will give you some good suggestions.
The salon is a beautiful place too; open and spacious with a lot of light, and the chairs are comfortable (no kink in your neck from getting your hair washed in the sink!)
The prices here are a lot higher than anywhere else I’ve gone but I am totally ok with it because I am definitely getting all the value that I’m paying for.
As a bonus, they will also serve you coffee or a glass of wine while you get your hair cut.
Nothing negative to say, definitely a 5-​stars business!

After switching from colorist to colorist for too dark color, I finally found someone that listens and does a great job with brunettes! Tyler is so nice and very talented. Perfect color and great cut – I would highly recommend him and Fringe to anyone!

I tried Fringe mostly because other quality salons are closed on Monday’s and it happens to be my only day off. I typically don’t spend a lot of $$ on hair cuts but I knew I wanted to get it colored, cut and blown out so I decided to try a better quality salon since I was scared about getting it colored. I made an appointment online (very convenient) for 12:15. I ended up having to wait about 20 minutes past my appt time but Jenna, my stylist, apologized profusely once I had been seated in the chair. It had taken her longer to cut her previous clients hair than originally anticipated. I showed her a picture of what I wanted my color to look like (I wanted to go a few shades darker, didn’t want highlights but wanted the color to look blended in) and she had great suggestions for how to achieve it. She listened to exactly how I wanted my hair cut and made the image I had in my mind come to reality. She took her time but wasn’t slow, I was done with full head color, cut and blow dry in about two hours. I ended up paying $ 190 (not including tip) and it was worth it. I’m not sure how that compares with other salons but I am not complaining. I can’t stop looking in the mirror. Ha!

Great salon. First visit, I as a little scared, let’s face it a hair cut will make you, or break you. Tyler is very talented & knows what he is doing.
I will return; I highly recommend.

I have to say, being someone who is VERY particular about her hair and needs to trust her stylist as much as her boyfriend, I could not be more pleased with Fringe and specifically Abby!
Abby listens to me, makes legitimate and realistic suggestions, and always makes me feel beautiful. On top of her amazing stylist skills, her «chair side manner» is fantastic! She is pleasant and sweet, always has your comfort at the forefront of her mind, and is a gracious and trustworthy stylist. I actually relocated to Austin, and am still making the 2.5 hour drive every 6 – 8 weeks for Abby!
The salon itself is clean and the staff is friendly. I have been late for my appointment (thank you Houston traffic) a few times, and they are always kind and understanding instead of being rude or snotty. They also remember you when you call which is something I really appreciate.
Fringe is by far my favorite salon I have ever been to, but Abby is the highlight (pun intended) for sure!

Amazing experience… I was referred to Abby Venegas at Fringe salon by a client whose hair I always admired! I’m so glad I took her reccomendation, my long straight hair went from drab to fab. Since moving to Houston from New Jersey I had tested out numerous salons and never really felt that connection with any of them. I would walk out of the salon feeling disappointed that I paid $ 100 to have my ends dusted (trimmed).
Upon entering Fringe I noticed how clean and minimalist everything looked. After I checked in Abby immediately met me at the front. I knew it was a good sign that she was super chic and had amazing hair. She took me to her chair and asked what I wanted, as always I said keep the length but I need some movement/​style.
After an amazing head massage/​wash we went back to the chair and hair was flying… I was a little nervous at first. After I was all blowdryed my hair looked great… still long with perfectly cut layers. I was so happy with the results, I have been seeing Abby ever since and I have never had a bad experience. I always walk out feeling great about myself and my hair. I would highly reccomend her to anyone.

I am new to Houston and needed to find a new hairstylist. I have been going to the same person for alomost 15 years so I was very worried about finding the right place and person for me. I turned to Unilocal for assistance in finding the right place. Thank you all you Unilocalers as I tried Fringe based on all the good reviews. I am willing to top $$$ for having my hair done right. This place delivered!!! I need to go in every 5 weeks or so for a color. My first time there I asked for someone that specializes in color and Natalie was recommended. Natalie has been so great. She really took the time on my first visit to talk to me on what to do with my color. It looks so natural and that is what I like. I have been back several times and still get the same great service friendly and attentive!.. As a bonus it is only 10 minutes from where I live.

I feel compelled to write this review because despite the refund for my haircut, I now have to figure out who is going to fix the worst haircut ever. I went to Abby for a trim three months ago and the trim seemed fine so I decided to see her again.
Two week ago I went for another quarterly trim and Abby cut a section of hair out of the back of my head. I spent days trying to styling it by blow drying and flat ironing and it still did not work. I went back to Abby a few days later and she really did not know how to fit her mistake.
The next day I called the salon and asked for a refund. I received a call back and was told the owner would be happy to refund my money and the owner also would like the opportunity to fix the haircut. I accepted the refund and agreed to come back in to let the owner, Ashley, fix the mistake.
Ashley layered the right side of my hair, but did not touch the left side so one side looks fluffy (no layers) and the other side is flat and not balanced. The length on the right side is longer than the left and she just whacked the back really short to cover up Abby’s original mistake.
I hope that paints a good visual of why you should not come to this salon as it is clear they do not know how to cut hair!!!

I went here in February and my hair stylist was Hannah! She was super nice and when I sat down she asked me what I wanted, I showed her a picture of the hairstyle I liked and asked for her opinion too. She would style my hair a little bit and sorta show me what she’s thinking would be cute and let’s me decide. She always cut less than what you want and when you tell her that you want shorter she will cut more just because she can always cut it shorter versus it being too short. Hannah spends a long time cutting my hair each time and she is very personable everytime! Even though, it may be a little bit pricey, I have been satisfied everytime I went so it is definitely worth it :)

Update — coming back with another five star review for Fringe, and especially, Jodie! Since my original post in November, I’ve been back for coloring services a couple of times.
Most recently, we did an ombré coloring and it looks amazing – so much so that I may keep it like this for the long-​run-​and that says a lot since I typically mix it up every few months. And for my cut, she added in more layers and then walked me through using my velcro rollers and round brush to get the «look” – which I love, because there is nothing worse than having great hair day 1, and not being able to replicate it!
And Jodie is seriously the most pleasant and sweetest person you could hope to spend 3 – 4 hours with while getting your hair did. (This coming from someone who used to spend the same time with my own cousin back in WI!)

I went to this place based on reviews here and was not disappointed. My appointment was at 3:00 on a Wednesday but I got there early and got in just fine. I got Jenna to cut my hair and I was NOT disappointed. She gave me tips and left my hair very voluminous (I have fine hair). The most exciting part was that I paid less than I do at Visible Changes and I actually talked to Jenna about what I wanted. I definitely recommend this place to everyone!

Tyler did a knock-​out job with my color today! I had been toying with the idea of switching up a decade of highlights for awhile, and finally I took the plunge after listening to Tyler describe his vision for a cleaned up, natural, yet rich look. Fringe is a gorgeous salon, the reception staff are friendly and helpful, and the stylists are all excellent. Highly recommended.

I can’t believe I just paid $ 90 (with tip) for a hair cut… and don’t regret one single penny of it. Tyler is a serious artist with the scissors.
The place is really nice. I like the natural lighting from the big storefront window. It’s a really minimalist design with the chandeliers adding a nice touch. The hair washing stations are so comfortable. Feet up? Hells yeah. My hairstylist was so informative about the products and business that I was immediately sucked into all of the spiel. This kind of passion can only be expressed from someone who truly believes in what they’re doing or what they’re selling.
As for the cut… it was everything I’ve always wanted, and then some. We talked about it for a bit until I felt he knew what feel I was trying to get out of my hair. «Edgy and sexy, but easy to style and still able to put in a high pony tail» was how I described it. «I’m going to give you an animé hair cut» was how he described it. SOLD — !!! Each snip and cut was made purposefully and precisely. He let me know what he was doing throughout the whole experience. By the end of the cut I was flipping cartwheels in my head about how good it looked. I had absolutely no problem dropping the $ 90 ($ 65 wash, cut, blow, style + $ 25 tip).
My favorite part was the next day. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make my hair look the same again. I took my shower, blow dried my hair, and VOILA! My hair looked just as good. Tyler made sure to cut my hair in such a way that I could flip it, curl it, straighten it, up-​do it, or just blow it and it would look fab-​u-​lous. Basically, I look good… Thanks to Tyler of course. I’ve never felt this way about a hair cut before and I plan to keep coming back as long as he’s there!

I recently purchased a TidBits deal at this salon for a cut, blow out and make up application.
Abby took care of all of my services and I was really pleased. When I looked in the mirror at the end of my session, I hardly recognized myself! My make up and hair both looked really good. Abby was really sweet and helpful and I’m definitely planning to come back for future services.

Jaime Rinkoff is ah-​mazing. Hands down, my favorite stylist to date.
That being said, The Fringe Salon is beautiful. Modern, minimalistic, sleek and full of green things. The flooring is made from recycled tires, The A/​C system circulates in an energy efficient manner, The vacuum system is built into the walls.
This place has the green concept down for sure. But other than that they employ fabulous sylists that know their shit and can take you from a 1B to platinum… safely.
